What is or is not a “necessity” for you.

This was raised on another thread, but what item would you look for online or go out and buy as a necessity, apart from food?

It would probably be medication like Paracetamol or my eczema cream if I ran out.
I have arthritis so unfortunately painkillers are essential at times.
Very good question Mollygo.

Having just moved to the centre of a busy small town, currently almost anything, because everything is within walking distance. Clothes, carpets, books, anything of a carriable size provided by Argos.

GrannyGravy13 Mon 22-Sept-25 12:34:12

Pretty much everything.

So convenient to find whatever you want at best price and have it delivered to the door (often free, and the next day)

Habit acquired during covid.

crafting items for making greeting cards.

One of my grandsons is going through this decision as he has just got his first little house. A bed, a table, a fridge and he also bought an air fryer. A washing machine is also high on the list ( there are no laundromats around these days )

Footwear. High street retailers cater for the majority, but if you have difficult feet online shopping is much better.

Books!
Leggins!
Big fluffy throws!

I've recently been wondering how I would survive without my wheelie bins. When they're loaded with heavy garden and household rubbish I can easily trundle them around because of their simple but brilliant design.

There are very few useful shops left in my little town so I have to buy almost everything on line, apart from food.
That’s why I have a too-big kettle, lawn mower, raincoat, Hoover, stock pot, hoe, shoes, wellies. And too-small trousers, skirt, bras, dog harness.
I don’t send things back because the PO is a long way and at the back of a shop so I can’t include it in my obligatory 2 dog walks daily.

Clock. I need to know the time.

Mollygo Mon 22-Sept-25 18:50:54

Today my essential purchase is a kettle. Using the microwave or a pan just isn’t the same!

valdavi Mon 22-Sept-25 18:54:35

Dog food, Plant seeds & books (I'm a library user, but supposing libraries weren't around)

I don't look for anything on-line but sometimes I order stuff from Argos and go to collect it.

Otherwise I purchase everything at my local shops.

Footrest.
I try and keep my posture good.

Jaxjacky Mon 22-Sept-25 19:12:55

Hot Hands heat pads to put in gloves, warm clothes and heating, I have Raynauds.

lixy Mon 22-Sept-25 19:20:11

Necessity? If my radio stopped working I would replace it immediately but my life doesn’t depend on it. Similarly with gardening gloves.
Tricky question though, and thought-provoking. What a pampered life I lead.

This isn’t about shopping online or not, it’s about what you think is essential.
e.g. which out of the things that you order from Argos do you consider essential for you?

Crossstitchfan Mon 22-Sept-25 20:46:33

My artificial nails! Shhhhh! Don’t tell anyone!

Redrobin51 Mon 22-Sept-25 20:49:52

Definitely books for my kindle. It's already overloaded but my mantra is that you can never have too many books. Dog treats that I can only get on the Internet as our local shop is very limited on dog food.

Paracetamol, mobile phone. I agree about a kettle, Mollygo. And a radio lixy.

Babs03 Mon 22-Sept-25 21:56:09

A kettle, a toaster, a phone and a charger for it.
