The Guardian losing money? Who would have thought?

Our eldest daughter subscribes to The Guardian. We’ve had some pretty feisty opinion swaps at times over the years! We are still close though. Blood is thicker than newspaper print. 😁

I do read the Guardian, on line, as well as the DM because they're free. I wouldn't subscribe to either if they do go behind a paywall. The Guardian is one of my go to places for book reviews along with The ST. We only buy one paper a week and that is the ST, usually I'm still reading their articles into the week. Occasionally my husband brings home The I. If we were to subscribe to a daily paper online it would be The Times.

A number of female journalists have raised concerns about the Guardians stance on the gender issue. I think it was Hadley Freeman who talked about bullying and a lack of courage there on this issue.
To be honest if as a newspaper you report that men are women I view you in the same way I view the News of the World.

Gender issues cause a huge amount of debate among people with differing views. It's a hot topic on this board from time to time. It's an idealogical debate where people have different opinions.

Unless you are arguing that people are not allowed to have opposing views.

Millions of people will have worked for employers and then discovered their views don't or no longer accord with the majority - so they leave and find an employer they feel more comfortable with. Moore wasn't cancelled. She said so herself.

Lingua Franca are donating 20% of the proceeds from their logoed sweatshirt collection celebrating factual journalism to The Guardian. That is their choice and prerogative. It's not much of a story so why is the DT making such a fuss about it?

People might not like the Guardian, that’s fine - but the media should not lie about verifiable information for a story.

My views on the Guardian remain the same.

I do think that facts are sacred, actually, especially in view of Mr Trump's active repression of facts he doesn't like.
I am astonished by the phrase deeply unpleasant phrase " deluded nonsense". I had an exchange of views on GN over a lie printed by The Telegraph, and was courteous enough to refer to these as " sloppy journalism".
I am not deluded, nor delusional if I choose to read The Guardian.

I have subscribed to the Guardian for many years. I also buy the I newspaper a couple of times a week. Read the Daily Mail online to get a different viewpoint and usually end up with a nasty taste in my mouth.

I get the same nasty taste from the Guardian.

It isn’t welcome news for many people, whatever any government ever does in a budget. I find though that it always helps to read the same information from different sources. It’s the spin that distorts. At this stage it’s all speculation though, obviously.

Well, I do read them online and I suppose that means they get advertising revenue.
I read the Guardian and the Mail usually because they're the free ones. That way you can see different points of view and sit on the fence and observe the fighting below.

The Guardian is suffering because it has abandoned it's female readers/base; it is totally on the gender identity side of the argument; and the Observer was sold off/abandoned earlier this year because of these issues. The Observer was my favourite newspaper with a good female and equality angle, now it is awful.
I did subscribe to the Guardian, but when they ganged up on Suzanne Moore, and Hadley Freeman, and worshipped at the altar of trans identity, I stopped paying, and stopped buying the Saturday issue.

Exactly why I’m hoping all that’s said about the DT is true.
I don’t want to read in any paper that what the DT says here is actually true. I’m happy for them to be as wrong as we’re told they are.

I hope people only say they are wrong when they publish stories that are not based in fact, surely? I don’t think it’s correct to accuse any media source of getting things wrong without evidence to say they have done. In the case of the Guardian financial position, the Telegraph did. Regarding the budget, we don’t know yet, nobody does.
