I can feel the darkness descending so my hope would be to stay well, enjoy a few things, improve my surroundings a bit.

Oh and be 2 lb lighter by November 1st.

..... to get a win on the Premium Bonds!

...... and I have just got £150; £300 last month too!

I get a really good return on them and have this frisson every month ..... I can't remember a month when I got nothing.

That the CH man will turn up and install the central heating so that we can start living in our new home, rather than B&B ing at DD's

I started reading this thread in an optimistic frame of mind but really, most of us want quite ordinary things to "just be OK" - batter than they have been.

So many are struggling with quite simple things.
Lots of health things (though some are bigger and scarier than others), lots of love for our families and wanting their lives to improve too... nothing here is unreasonable- wanting to be safer, stronger, fitter, more confident.

I've become quite weepy thinking about it all.

I truly wisheveryone gets a little of what they wish for this month.
And 🙏 for Gaza and Ukraine where families just like ours have the same small wants and dreams as well as struggling to just survive.

flowers to you all.

Good luck 🍀 with the central heating*MOnica*. Getting colder now so you need it.
I've received the deed of transfer today. Once that's signed, witnessed and returned (Monday) things will be happening re my house move. smile

That is great news. Once contracts are exchanged you know the house you want is yours and your house has been irrevocably sold..

To stop panicking and catastrophising. To be more positive - well positive at all because I am not at all positive.

I always read your posts, and your life has been rather grim, being positive is the way forward, I’m hoping such good things come your way, you seem such a lovely person,
Regards, Marion💐

Hope everybody did OK! Sorry for the late follow up.

Ooh that title brought back a childhood memory "pinch and a punch first of the month" - wherever did that come from? It was barbaric ha ha.

gentleshores Thu 06-Nov-25 05:58:40

Just to add the first of the month for me was really stressful - medical issues and A&E - I blame the clocks changing :-) - I prefer the 1st December to 1st November.

JamesandJon33 Thu 06-Nov-25 06:05:48

My 1st of November wish was granted .

grandMattie Thu 06-Nov-25 06:24:14

My wish didn’t come true; the financial ombudsman ruled in favour of the bank. To add insult to injury, they gave the bank 50% of the money refunded!

grandMattie Thu 06-Nov-25 06:28:04

I now have to spend the rest of my life worrying about money, mortified by my idiocy, raging against the fates.

It is said that one never has more troubles than you can cope with - my life has been mostly bloody in the last five years; payback I suppose for the blessings of my previous, pre-widowhood years.

Reading this thread has put things into perspective.

I often try and make a resolution on the first of the month or on a Monday to just try and get something done - and most of all, to get it finished! - but life seems to get in the way and even that doesn't end - there's always something left to tidy away or still in the ironing basket.

This November holds many commitments for me, which, again, will keep me from carrying out my own plans. But they are very enjoyab!e.

For a start, I have a birthday, and concert tickets for two events immediately following it. One is an Eric Clapton tribute band, playing my favourite album ever, Unplugged. The other is for a concert my son is singing in - Bach's B minor Mass. His choir is top notch, most of them professional musicians (he is a music teacher).

On my birthday, fingers crossed, the completion of sale of my mother's house will go through. That has been dragging on since January, with a prospective buyer dropping out a few times till we gave up on them and put it in the hands of an Estate Agent.

And I am in one choir which will be singing 2 concerts on the 8th and 9th. Challenging stuff, one of which is a new work, commissioned specially, so quite modern. The other choir, a local church choir, will have a couple of Sunday services to sing and of course we are learning our Christmas programme for midnight mass and various Advent services.

As well as all that, I really would like to get all the windows cleaned and start making some Christmas decorations, or at least the Advent wreaths, especially as the first of advent falls in November.

And did I mention that my washing machine has broken down and this week I've been taking my washing to the launderette because the technician can't come till Monday?

See you all on 1 December to compare notes!

Good, I'm glad.

To be scammed must bring up all sorts of emotions. When you say you will have to spend the rest of your life worrying about money, is there no support available to you?

JamesandJon33 Thu 06-Nov-25 11:10:57

Thank you StripeyGran

loopyloo Thu 06-Nov-25 11:26:04

So sorry Grandmattie.
But thank you for sharing it with us because its made me much more careful.
Please see if you can get any help.
All best wishes.

Kate1949 Thu 06-Nov-25 12:14:37

grandMattie How absolutely awful for you. Whoever said you never have more troubles than you can cope with has obviously never been in that position.
