Good morning from a wet Bristol.
Iris had a very nice birthday; her sister organised a non-uniform day for her. It was in the guise of collecting tins and/or money for the food bank almost opposite the school. They raised over £1000 towards it!
Iris liked my present of a (exorbitant) drinking cup thingy. She liked my card even more - I printed off a horse head drawing and pasted it onto a blank card.
We went to a local Japanese restaurant with the other GPs. When they heard that it was her birthday, the staff presented her with a portion of tiramisu with a candle on it! Lovely gesture.
The family insisted that I had been to this restaurant with them before. I said that I had never eaten Japanese food as DH wasn’t keen on raw fish, etc. We only ate out with the family, very, very rarely as a couple.
I enjoyed my”day off”. I pottered napped, planted my daffodils and pansies in the pots..
Today, I must get vegetables from the greengrocer for the harvest festival display on Sunday, Spanish class and the occasional WI book group. The latter depends on the weather. I shall not go out in the pouring rain!
Hugs all round, especially to the FGTs and MD, and am happy for those whose health has improved, who have recently joined…

Good morning from a breezy Torbay following overnight rain.

No plans for today although we will probably venture out somewhere whilst the cleaner works her magic. The limited space makes it difficult for her to get around (to say nothing of our muddles!!) if we’re both here.

Wishing everyone as good a day as possible, free from worry and pain. 🦩🥰🦩💐🦩

A tremendous effort by your grandaughters and their fellow pupils for the food bank, grandMattie!

Bellasnana Fri 03-Oct-25 06:31:15

Good morning from Malta where it is cloudy but we are promised a sunny day with a high of 24°C. Much cooler than of late.

Nothing much planned for today apart from my usual hair appointment.

Hoping the boys might visit after school. I miss them but am very glad they have settled so happily. They are in the same class but their teacher says they don’t bother with each other much and have made other friends!

Will soon get up and put myself through half an hour of torture! I hate exercising but it’s necessary and I feeel virtuous once it’s done!

Have a good day all.☀️

Good Morning fr MS, sunny & 28c.

Greyduster Fri 03-Oct-25 06:57:49

Good morning, Michael and all GNs from South Yorkshire where it is still dark. It’s going to be a wet day today. I didn’t spend much time in the house yesterday. Out early morning for walking group and then home briefly to change and straight out to the hairdressers. I don’t know why she has an appointment system. I could have gone half an hour later and still had to wait.
This morning I shall clean the inside windows in the lounge and clean all the pictures ready to go back on the walls. School volunteering this afternoon when I will meet my new Year 4 group.
Have the best day you can, folks.

Good morning everyone from a rainy Northampton; heavy rain forecast later, so not sure whether to venture out for my dance classes, as it will mean a wet walk to the bus stop; both friends who usually kindly give me a lift are on holiday.

A busy day yesterday; I decided to get the furniture emptied in the second bedroom ready for the new carpet arriving hopefully on Monday. While I was at it I also swapped my wintet/summer wardrobes, had a trying on session and now have a large bin bag with clothes that I shall not get into again... It also gave me a chance to re-organise storage for spare duvets, bedding etc.

Depending on the weather not sure how my day will pan out yet; if I decide against venturing out it will give me a chance to catch up with reading or recorded tv programmes. And it will be more restful than yesterday!

Wishing all a pleasant day.

Good morning from a wet day in Turkey hopefully it may brighten up later.
No plans apart from reading inside today.
DH and I are both coughing, as are lots of other people.
All good on the home front, S has recovered and is loving college fingers crossed that her health stays good.
Enjoy your day, best wishes to all xx

Good morning from a grey wet Cambridgeshire. Need to catch up on housework today downstairs and then tackle the ironing pile. DH has his flu jab this morning and then breakfast club with the boys. If it stops raining later hopefully we will get out for a walk.

Have a good day everyone

Good morning everyone from Inverness where it’s a grey and cloudy start to the day
Sounds like you had an enjoyable day yesterday gMattie and well done to Iris and her school with the fundraising
I’ve got a volunteering session today until after lunchtime, then I’ll be coming home to sit out the storm. It’s forecast to be very wet and windy here with lots of public transport cancelled
Stay safe everyone if out and about travelling in the bad weather today
Thinking of everyone with worries and struggles, hope today is gentle and take care all whatever the day brings 💐

Grandmabatty Fri 03-Oct-25 07:29:06

Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 12° and dry, after a very wet night. GrandMattie that's a really good achievement of your dgd. Blue sapphire a very productive day for you.
Yesterday I was careful about my level of activity. I dropped off the boys and went home to lie down. I slept again for an hour or so. I did tidy up the kitchen and hoovered throughout which didn't take too long. I had the boys after school and they were really good. Dd came for them and said dgs1 was given a really good report. Eager, helpful and kind, as well as bright.
Today will be a quiet one. I'm waiting for a delivery from Marks and Spencer and it could be any time. I'll potter about and rest too. As the wound heals, it's quite painful at times so I don't want to make things worse. I made a chicken curry yesterday and have loads left so that's dinner sorted. Have a good day all.

Grandmabatty Fri 03-Oct-25 07:30:03

Brook take care. I think it's to be worse nearer the north.

Redcar Fri 03-Oct-25 07:33:47

Good morning everyone from mid Essex, it’s mild, wet and dark this morning. Rain is forecast for much of the day. Yesterday I went for my usual walk and had a chat with some dog walking friends. My back was painful so I didn’t do very much else. I had a chat to my next door neighbour who was cutting down his large shrubs. He was painting the outside of his summerhouse and the shrubs were in his way. As they were growing over into my garden I’m pleased he’s realised that they’re actually his shrubs and not mine!
grandmattie well done to your granddaughters for raising so much money for the food bank.
bellasnana, good that your grandsons have settled well at school and are making other friends. 24degrees and sunny sounds lovely!

Thinking of all those who are struggling in any way, I hope the day brings some relief for you.

Have the best day you can everyone, stay safe in the storm.

Susan56 Fri 03-Oct-25 07:38:45

Wishing everyone the best day possible and stay safe in the storm🦩🌻

RosesandLilac Fri 03-Oct-25 07:50:26

Good morning, it’s wet and mild here in south Glos, welcome rain for the garden.
I have had a very poor night, so restless for no apparent reason so I feel like a piece of chewed string 🙄
I don’t think I will be achieving anything much today!
That’s a magnificent amount grandMattie for the food bank 👏
I need to walk tiddler then let’s see how today goes.
Best wishes to everyone 🌹

luluaugust Fri 03-Oct-25 07:52:53

Well done Iris what a lot of money
Best wishes

Gingster Fri 03-Oct-25 07:54:50

Good morning from an unusually wet and breezy morning in Essex.

We have our flu jabs today and Dh will also have the Covid one.
We’ll go on to meet our Friday friends and catch up with all their news.

Dd and DGD are back from their holiday so I’ll look forward to seeing them at the weekend.

DIL had her op yesterday and might be home today, we’ll see.

Take care in the storm and I hope there is no destruction 🙏

merlotgran Fri 03-Oct-25 07:57:45

Good morning all from a wet and windy south coast. I wish I didn’t have to venture out but I’ve arranged to meet a friend at the ferry at 11.30. It’s only a seven minute walk to the bus stop but I think my stick might be needed to keep me on a straight course! TBH driving wouldn’t be much fun either and it’s such a long way round to achieve so little other than a car parking fee. so I must stop feeling envious that the bus stops right outside my friend’s house. 😂 the ferry will be fun. I love it when it’s choppy! Lunch at Brasserie Blanc will more than make up for it.
Hope everyone further north stays safe. We’re getting off lightly down here. I hope 🤞
Have a pleasant day everyone.

Liberty Fri 03-Oct-25 08:02:43

Good morning from a wet and chilly Suffolk where the forecast shows we should miss the storm. I hope others in its wake don’t suffer any damage.

No plans today apart from a walk with the little dog who will tolerate light rain but refuses to go out if it is heavy.

I think I might try to sort out the little bedroom which has become a repository,ie a dumping ground for things which we say we’ll sort out later. Usually later doesn’t come but today it might!

Hope today is a positive one for all.

GrannyGravy13 Fri 03-Oct-25 08:03:58

Good morning, no idea what is on the agenda today other than it will involve sunshine, laziness and the obligatory vino.

hollysteers Fri 03-Oct-25 08:07:16

Good morning from Cloudy Chambers northwest coast. DD left for the south yesterday after three days. She helped me choose carpeting for the spare bedroom she uses and it was measured up. Also some admin re shares which have surfaced since DH died. I appreciate her practical help.

Today to art, although I’m not feeling very arty, then to fix remote garage door device and new battery for house alarm. There seem to be lots of things going wrong all at once, which often happens. I had a long FaceTime with my sister in the south last night and she thought I seemed tired, and I am.
Hope your DIL makes good progress Gingster and Thoughts to all🌺

Georgesgran Fri 03-Oct-25 08:10:27

Good Morning from Durham.
It’s breezy and wet here, but later, heavy rain is forecast, with strong winds. Unpleasant!
DD2 and I have nail appointments at 12. I was planning to stop off in Newcastle on my way home, but my back is really stiff - just muscular - so I’ll see how I feel later.

The end of another week - this year is flying by and I’m not looking forward to the long dark nights. I hope those with difficulties are making some progress, however small.

Best wishes to all. X

Marydoll Fri 03-Oct-25 08:13:38

Good morning all from a wet Glasgow, where it is 12°C, with a weather morning from 3pm.

What a wonderful achievement from your granddaughters, GM,

Yesterday was a difficult day, Babydoll was cross and clingy, never leaving my side, she hardly ate a thing, that's how we knew she wasn't well, she would eat all day if we allowed it,
I was suffering the after effects of the contrast dye and felt rotten.
It always happens after procedures like this.

My decision to advise my children about my situation, didn't quite work out as planned,
Just as we were putting Babydoll in the car, Dollie and her family came out of the other grandparents' house next door and were coming to see us.
DH kept making faces at me to tell them, so I did, in my driveway,😌
I wanted to go back into the house to speak to them, but we had just managed to bribe Babydoll with jelly babies to get her into the car.
DS was his usual matter of fact self, but my wee DIL was upset,
saying she had known something was wrong,

DS2 (my quiet child) was next to be informed, I could see he was stunned, ut I had to laugh at DIL, whose mother was the charge nurse on the colorectal ward, she proceeded to give me lots of advice

Lastly I phoned DD, who did not cope well, she had just got in from work, and had been caught at the wrong moment,
I thought I would feel better, once I had done the great reveal, but I don't.
DS is not dealing well with my situation, is pretending it is not serious and has retreated in periods of silence, That is more difficult to contend with than thoughts what is ahead of me,

One of my oldest friends phoned me for a chat yesterday, it was so good to hear from her. Months ago she had seen me at church ( we attend different masses) and was shocked at my weight loss.
I had told her at Mass last Saturday evening and she was was checking up on me, becaue we couldn't really chat,
While I was talking to her, BabyD was climbing all over me, wanting to speak on the phone,
For a child, who was unwell, she had an awful amount of energy!

I'm off to M&S food hall, then I'm grounded until the middle of next week,
Depending on how I feel, I may pop into TKMaxx, for what may be my last visit in a while,

I wish you all a pleasant day, Best wishes for all, the mountaineers,

Ladyleftfieldlover Fri 03-Oct-25 08:14:12

A quick morning all from a damp West Oxfordshire.

We are expecting my sister and brother in law sometime this afternoon. I hope everything is ready for them. They are having my room so I slept in the spare room last night as it was all prepared. They’ve had good weather for their 5 week trip around Europe so they will be brought back to earth with good old English rain!

We had our flu jabs at the Health Centre yesterday. OH also needs a Covid jab (he is under 75 but has asthma). He has to go to a Pharmacy for that. I also dropped my new Seasalt dress off at the seamstress to have the hem turned up.

Well done to GM’s granddaughters.
