Good Morning Everyone,
A dark but dry start here in Brackley , what I have noticed is a slow start to autumn with trees not shedding leaves as in the past , climate etc playing a part .
Usual routine today after breakfast ,some Tv , before i get the bus to Bicester , chatting to those I know .
Health OK ,
Take Care,
Mick

grandMattie Wed 08-Oct-25 05:38:12

Good morning from an overcast Bristol.
Unlike you, Mick, the trees have shed a lot of leaves here due to the drought, now some trees are starting to shed the normal autumn leaves. The horse chestnuts are bare.
I had a quiet day yesterday; Tuesdays are usually without human contact.
I spent a happy morning making a little tote bag using my favourite unbleached calico as background, and did some appliqué.
In the afternoon, I baked, then made a Persian chicken stew with green olives, using up a lot of chicken pieces. This will mostly go into the freezer which is nearly empty.
FAB cafe this morning, I baked double as I’m away next week; I’ll leave the baking in “my” cupboard.
I’ve got the library book group this afternoon. I didn’t like the book “Strange Sally Diamond”, a sort of sequence to “Room”, which I loathed.
I hope chemo wasn’t too unpleasant for FGT’s himself and that her anxiety is at bearable levels.
Many hugs to all. Carpe diem 🦩🦩🦩🦩

Good morning fr sunny MS, 31c.
grandMattie: The Persian chicken stew you've made, sounds so delicious, & also unusual - I like 🫒!
(I made boring cauliflower soup yesterday.)

I'm so very glad to read of MDs' health news - what a wonderful relief for her!
Now it's Mr. FGTs' turn for some uplifting & positive times - & for both Mr. & Mrs. FGT to feel happy! ((hug))

Good morning from s somerset, dull and some drizzle today

Yesterday was glorious and sunny and I found a few things to do outside, just pottering with this and that, nothing onerous. Meanwhile the sun warmed my house and made my indoor plants grow a bit more

A dd had to have their much-loved working cocker spaniel put to sleep yesterday and I did a lot of psychological supporting. This one was old, and ill, that is the third pet, two working cockers and one pony during the last few months. She has had to be the strong one, her dh and her dd went to pieces. She feels better now, knowing that they did the right thing for the sake of the animals

My ch is staying off until my boiler is fixed, I cannot be risking the seals deteriorating further via water pressure. I will be using candles at times or my multi fuel stove or a woollen shawl and throw

Ocado is coming in a couple of hours and I need to strain my kefir, other than that the day will unfold as it always does

Dragonfly and FGT flowers I have no suitable words for what you are going through, just wishing you support and peace

Greyduster Wed 08-Oct-25 06:06:04

Good morning, Michael and all GNs from still dark South Yorkshire. I slept through until five; hope I feel the benefits today. The decorator came back briefly yesterday to sort out some issues with the bedroom and I’m pleased to say everything is now to my satisfaction. It may be a while before I have any more major decorating done - it’s very disruptive. School in the afternoon was fun once I’d worked around some scheduling difficulties caused by an ad hoc assembly.
Today is writers group at the library. I’ve been working on a piece but it won’t come together. Looking back last weekend through work we did last year, I came across an essay I had written about my father. It reduced me to tears.
Have the best day you can, folks.

Good morning from Malta where a sunny day is forecast with a high of 25°C.

Had a lovely day yesterday with my Gransnet friend. We chatted for hours! I hit the rush hour traffic on the way home which took an hour instead of 20-30 mins.

Good to hear Marydoll’s results were not as bad as was feared and I hope the chemo wasn’t too unpleasant for Himself.

Good to hear you will be heading this way again next year Blue Sapphire, consider yourself booked in, it will be lovely to catch up again.☺️

I am planning on giving my place a good going over today but am first waiting to hear if I will be having DGS2 who has croup and asthma. Poor little chap has inherited his mum’s lung issues unfortunately.

Wishing a good day to all.☀️

Greyduster Wed 08-Oct-25 06:09:56

Peli DH and I called into a pub for quick lunch one day and he ordered broccoli and cauliflower soup. I thought it sounded dreadful but he persuaded me to taste it and it was so delicious that I ate most of it and he was lucky to have any! Anything but boring!

Susan56 Wed 08-Oct-25 06:10:41

Good morning from Shropshire where another sunny day is forecast.

I managed my whole exercise class yesterday 🥳We then went shopping so I was ready for feet up and a cuppa when I got home.

Today a morning of household chores then we will collect the children from school.A quick tea then DGS to Beavers and DGD to dance.

Hoping all went well for the FGT’s yesterday and that the dragonflies had a good outcome from their appointment🙏🏻

Thinking of all with worries and struggles.

Wishing everyone the best day possible🦩🌻

Scottishthistle Wed 08-Oct-25 06:11:49

Good morning everyone,
Sending positive healing energy to all who are needing it. Struggling with sleep , does this happen naturally with age? Have a positive day GN's✨️ 💛

Good morning from still dark South Lanarkshire.

Lovely photo of you and our mutual Facebook friend yesterday Bella.

The shop was fairly quiet yesterday so I managed to sort out the bric a brac section, it looks much tidier now.

I’ll have to do some food shopping and cooking today. Persian chicken sounds good Gmattie, I was thinking of making Bombay chicken to take to DS’s house tomorrow.

We’re having a rare visit to the cinema this evening, meeting DD to watch the Downtown film.

Wishing everyone the best day possible.

grandMattie Wed 08-Oct-25 06:22:31

The Persian chicken involves all sorts of gentle spices - cinnamon, saffron; then honey and preserved lemons. It was part of a resident cookery course at the late lamented WI college.
I love it but haven’t made it for ages.

NannyJan53 Wed 08-Oct-25 06:25:46

Good morning from a dull & cloudy Black Country.

Lovely walk yesterday along canal and railway walk. We completed almost 7 miles, with a cafe stop at the end.

Then over to Mums to take her food shopping.

A free day today, so a bit of housework, and sorting out summer clothes to put away.

Wishing you all the best day possible

Aldom Wed 08-Oct-25 06:37:19

Good morning everyone.
gMattie I live a few miles from where Denman College used to be.
One of my friends lives in Marcham where the college was situated.
Your Persian chicken sounds delicious.
I have an National Women's Register meeting this afternoon. Probably my last before I move house and county.
I've already made contact with the group in Shropshire and they are looking forward to me joining the group there. I'm also looking forward to meeting a GN member who is familiar with the area I'm moving back to.
My thoughts are with FGT and others who are finding life sad or difficult.

Ashcombe Wed 08-Oct-25 06:46:54

Good morning from a dry and calm Torbay.

Some folk don’t always sleep well as they age, Scottishthistle. The occasional time it’s a problem for us sees DH making decaf tea to help us settle. Welcome to this friendly thread. 😀

Wednesday Club involves a visit from Stephanie Austin as she launches her latest book: How To Get Murdered in Devon. She has directed and acted in plays at our theatre and now lives in Ashburton in which her books are set. A recommended good read…..

Happy hump day! 🦩🥰🦩💐🦩

Grandmabatty Wed 08-Oct-25 06:48:46

Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 10° and dry though still pitch black. GrandMattie I like the sound of your Persian chicken. Susan it sounds like you are feeling a lot better.
Yesterday was quiet and I just pottered about the house. The boys were on good form after school. Dgs2 was very unhappy that I hadn't made him soup, so I will have to ensure there is lentil soup for next Monday. Ds messaged to say he's looking forward to getting home from Munich.
Today I will head to the school library to tidy the shelves and put up the Halloween window decals. Then pick up my prescription and get out more money for the hedge removal. I'll need petrol at some point too. Back home for Christmas presents delivery. Dinner might be macaroni cheese. Have a good day all.

Good morning Mick and all GN's from a very dark morning, cannot even see the tree against the sky, in North Yorkshire.

The washer is chuntering away in the background as I was up very early again. My plan was to just put the stuff in the washer and start it and go back to bed and at least have a bit of a rest if not sleep again after rather a busy day yesterday. Ah, best laid plans of mice and men! Checking in the cupboard , thought I had another bottle of liquid soap for washer but nothing there, so looked at the back and there was some washing powder, which I hauled out to use, with a mental note to get more stuff today. Hah, as I looked in to see if there was enough for the wash now, the bottom promptly fell out and the whole lot of the powder then decorated the floor, my slippers and dressing gown, so had to sweep that up as best as I could manage with long handled broom, and will have to clear the floor up a bit more later when I am able to bend more!! Oh well , managed to salvage enough for this wash and will get some more things today.

I am going to read todays posts and then go back to yesterday to see what I missed as I had a long day, going down to the designer outlet in the south of York. Journey down was going reasonably well until near the ring road, where the dreaded roadworks managed to clog up a fair distance , so with traffic lights to pass them, heavy traffic etc it took me about 1-1/2 hours instead of about 1 to get there. Was anxious that they had not given my buggy to someone else as I had not turned up at the agreed time, but it was fine. I really couldnt manage without it now. It was such a long time since I have been down that I had to reaquaint myself with the layout etc. I am making a note that they have a quieter day on tuesdays for the future. I much prefer it like that, they do 2 hours of very little announcements, no loud music etc, for autistic people, but of course we all benefit from a bit more peace and quiet.

The staff there were very pleasant and I filled in their form etc and a pleasant surprise. My birthday is in July and I was aware that they gave you a discount for your birthday, but of course much later now. However found that it was valid until 10 October, so got a little off coffee prices, but wasnt able to get anything else off as despite a good look round, got no clothes at all from M and S or anywhere else. So the main point of going came to nothing, however I did get a really good offer on a duvet with 2 pillowslips that was already reduced by 20% in their sale and I got a birthday 10% off too, which was cheering. One or two other small things but it let me sort of catch up and remember where places where and then I got off about 4.30pm to avoid hitting much of the traffic, so that I got home in time to have a quick bite, chuck the shopping down and off to the games night. I knew if I had sat down I wouldnt move. Worth the effort, another new game to me, but I worked in with Racheal, who is a very experienced player, and this allowed me to concentrate on the basic ideas and rules, while she was able to see more advanced possibilities to do, and was more aware of what other players were doing, so only really got home just before 11pm, and ignored the slung in shopping and went to bed. Hence this morning I am trying to catch up and restore some semblence of order today.

We have quite a good idea here, which I think they have been doing for 2/3 years of a restaurant week. All the restaurants taking part agree to a 2 course for £20 or three course for £25, and some do lunch and others both lunch and dinner. So at lunchtime today my friend and I are going to try a place that we have been recommended , but looking at their menu, the prices really added up. So this is going to give us the chance to try it, which of course is the name of the game. If it turns out to be very good, I shall put it into the "treat" group, so even if out of my pocket level normally, can bepart of the birthday - whatever occasion - for the future.
The autumn colours round here seem to be in sort of bursts. As I came home yesterday I would pass a couple of trees in glorious technicolour but a few miles further on no sign at all of anything other than green. So todays plan is to tidy up and enjoy our meal and then this pm do some sorting before gadding off to whist tonight. What it is to have such a full calendar!!

Must go and investigate clonking sounds from washer. Will come back to today and yesterdays posts and catch up with all your doings. Hope you all have a good day

Morning from cloud in S Hants, I slept in later yesterday, then had a dental appointment, another today, my least favourite but has to be done.
Scottishthistle I think it’s very individual, I usually sleep well.
A good result Susan you must have been pleased.
We haven’t had lamb some leaves down here Mick I enjoy walking on them when dry and the ‘scrunching’.
Hopefully dragonflies had better news yesterday.
I’ve chicken and sweet potato curry to make later, a friend coming for coffee and a farm shop visit, I might buy a sack of potatoes, bargain at £7.99.

Good morning, my last day in the warm (sometimes hot) sunshine.

I am ready to go home, I miss my GC and AC, we have FaceTimed every day but I want a physical hug.

Thinking of our poorly friends and those with troubles 🙋‍♀️

Redcar Wed 08-Oct-25 07:13:26

Good morning everyone from mid Essex, where it’s dry, cloudy and mild. Not sure what the forecast is for today.
Had my Covid jab yesterday with just a slightly sore arm this morning. I had a disturbed night, lots on my mind and the full moon!
I may go for my usual walk this morning, but my back is still very uncomfortable when I’m sitting or standing. Unfortunately I have to go out this afternoon so won’t be able to rest until later.
Thinking of md and the fgts in particular but also anyone else who is struggling.
Have the best day possible everyone.

kittylester Wed 08-Oct-25 07:19:44

Good morning all from North Leicestershire.

Our cleaner is due at 9am and DH will go to the gym, then a blood test and to collect an order from M&S.

We must book our jabs now i am getting over my op.

Have the best day possible everyone.

RosesandLilac Wed 08-Oct-25 07:20:27

Good morning, it’s damp here on the hillside in south Glos, very quiet too.
DH is off to the eye hospital, he won’t be back until late afternoon because of waiting after having eye drops and driving. He insists he drives despite other options.
I will walk the dogs separately, I’ve booked the lovely dog walker to take bigger dog out later as I can’t manage 4 individual walks.
I have ironing to do but nothing else planned so a quiet day.
Take care everyone 🌹

Scottishthistle Wed 08-Oct-25 07:23:33

@ashcombe @Jaxjacky Thanks.. Hope you all have as good a day as is possible.

brook2704 Wed 08-Oct-25 07:23:47

Good morning everyone from Inverness, it’s still dark but looks dry outside
I’ve quite a busy day ahead with a little bit of everything, a quick volunteering session, a gym class, a walk and the dentist. I’ll get the bus home late afternoon
So good to hear Marydolls news yesterday and hope all went as well as it could for Fgts DH
Thinking of everyone with worries and struggles, hope today is gentle and take care all whatever the day brings 💐

GrannyIvy Wed 08-Oct-25 07:32:24

Good morning from Cambridgeshire where it is 13 degrees rising apparently to 18 later. You are right Mick the trees are holding on to their leaves here as well, lovely autumnal colours. Some of our most enjoyable walks are at this time of year.

Today I’m going into Cambridge with DD2 and I have a reward voucher for free coffee and cake for 2 in the John Lewis cafe which I am sure we will enjoy using!

Our decorating didn’t start yesterday DH had other ideas and disappeared into the garden all day but I’m hoping progress will be made today. I think I’m best staying out of the way. My job will be clear up any mess later 😂

Have a good day everyone

Jaxjacky Wed 08-Oct-25 07:47:14
