Been looking to buy small craft items to use with grandchildren and came across Shein. Prices seem incredibly low so is there a catch?

Nor Shein but Temu. Tshirts, socks etc - all fine and washed really well. Would order again. Stuff from primark, Matalan etc are not UK so cant see any problem.

I regularly order sewing and craft items from Temu. I have only ordered once from Shein and the general quality was not good so won't order from them again. Temu quality is usually good, it is easy to order and you get refunds within seconds.

I wouldn't buy anything from Shein. Know people who have and they say the quality is dreadful. It is based in Singapore. Operations and manufacturing in Guangzhou, China. Founded in Nangjing, China.

I bought a few things from Shein recently. I also bought from Temu. Now I am getting daily (sometimes twice daily) phone calls trying to persuade me to buy more. What they don’t realise is, pestering phonecalls do nothing other than put me off buying again. I will not be bullied!

For humanitarian concerns I will not shop on Shein or Temu as they use amongst other minorities the Uyghur people and they are used with out human rights, kept in bad conditions, they are over worked badly treated and paid little it is modern day slave Labour and the clothes are made from very very poor quality material
It’s up to each person to decide but my conscience wont let me

Crossstitchfan - next time make up a random phone number!!

BlueBelle - I hear what you say. My problem is that just about anything we buy now carries those concerns. I asked ChatGPT to list companies that only manufacture and source materials in the UK. It was a very short list and had eye wateringly expensive stock.

When I had small GC doing crafty things I found The Works very good, we also have a local art shop which often has offers, otherwise now I would probably look at Amazon and Etsy if I wanted to buy online.

I so wish I had thought to do that!

Luckygirl There are many places that do use cheaper labour than average by paying poor wages which is bad enough but these people are imprisoned in slave camps under awful horrible conditions
Please read up about the Uyghur villages in China and tell me you still want to purchase off Shein and Temu etc

I bought a dress from 'Unfolded'. This is a company that only makes up orders when they are ordered so there's a bit of a wait while it's manufactured in India. The company pays garment workers a good wage and in good conditions and uses good quality fabrics with no waste. Well, when the dress arrived I was delighted. Not fast disposable fashion but designed and made to last and look smart for years. I'm very pleased.

I have never bought from either for the same reasons as you.
But buying ethically has become really difficult as we really cannot track the credentials of every single thing we buy in this huge global market.
I also have big concerns about the air miles.

I ordered this very dress from Unfolded but when it arrived it was at least two sizes too big. Such a pity but I returned it and was refunded minus the postage cost. It is a good concept but I am wary of buying again.

Oh dear. I used the size guidelines and mine fits perfectly. I wear a thin black polo neck under it black tights and boots.
