Good morning from Bristol. We are to have heavy showers mid-morning to mid-afternoon…
I had a busy morning yesterday. I did my church cleaning stint first thing, followed by a restorative cuppa, then went for a bus to town. I need backing fabric for the quilt. Fortunately, I got everything I needed and didn’t have to wait long for buses there and back.
The afternoon was spent washing and ironing the 21 damp and smelly tea towels left for me when I was away. Do “they” really believe in laundry fairies?
Church this morning (if it’s not too wet and windy) and an empty in the afternoon.

Good morning early risers the weathers meant to be dull with episodes of light rain here on the east coast of Fife. I’ve got an exciting day ahead I’m going to church in the morning followed by make a chicken Korma for my dinner tonight, later on I’m off to Edinburgh to see an Elvis impersonator show it’s going to be great fun.

Have a good day, break a leg all would be actors

Good morning from a still dark part of La Sarthe.

The peace and quiet here means that I do sleep soundly; I must have had nearly eight hours last night!

DH finished cutting the lawns and pottered in the garden whilst I continued writing, in between acting as doorman for the two cats! Today will be similar for me with a break this afternoon when I ring my recently bereaved friend who is in a care home.

A blessed Sunday to you all. 🦩💐✝️🥰🦩

Good morning from Malta where the forecast is for a fine day with a high of 24°C and rain later.

Enjoyed being with the boys at the park yesterday but couldn’t join them all for lunch as I had my hair appointment having missed it on Friday.

Called in on a friend as I noticed their stationery shop is closing down. Turns out her husband has cancer in his kidney and is scheduled for surgery in a couple of weeks. We’ve been friends since their daughter and DD3 were at school together, so over thirty years.

Hoping to go to Mass this morning as I have missed a few Sundays, then we might have a walk somewhere as the traffic is always hectic on weekends and I have been doing a lot more driving than usual this week.

Thinking of you all and hoping for the best for everyone.☀️

Good morning from s somerset, cool, dreary and wet this morning

Remarkable but the living room is still warm after the gentle log burn yesterday afternoon, I am thankful for that. Waking up to a 19 degree bedroom and 17.9 kitchen. A good experiment really, to see how this house cools, which is very slowly.

I have taken frozen butter out to thaw, I will be making my parkin later this morning, to put some warmth into the kitchen and I have just shut all the kitchen vents.

It is a good time for me to be knitting with a big warm jumper on my knee, only 25 cm to go and I will have finished sleeve 1. DS is very excited, he is waiting for firm offers on his house in Scotland, closing date is tomorrow. Once this stage is over, the stress will lift. This stage is all about getting ducks in a row

I am treating myself today, we have two artisan bakers, one is more `niche` than the other, on the way back from my walk. Expensive treats from the niche baker but hey ho. I will be walking in the rain, raincoat down to my calves

I think I will light some candles in my living room, safe in storm lanterns when I get back home and will then enjoy freshly ground coffee and my treat. Cosy treats on what will be a cosy day indoors.

Have a good day

Morning all from a still dark West Oxfordshire.

I finished off the Barmbrack yesterday. We had a slice slathered in cold butter with a cup of tea. It was tasty. I also made a batch of chocolate fudge icing.

OH and I are off to the pottery where we learnt to use a wheel a while ago. A morning of slab work, coiling and pinch pots beckons. I have done this before, but not OH.

We have booked lunch in a nearby town.

I hope you all have a peaceful Sunday.

Good morning everyone from mid Essex. It’s getting light and is dry so far, some much needed rain is forecast for later. It will be another quiet day for me as my back is still very painful. I’m planning a short walk and a few gentle exercises and then resting. Hoping one of my DDs may call in at some time today.
llfl that sounds a fun morning.
karma it’s good that you are able to keep your house warm without the central heating. It sounds really cosy with candle light.
Thinking of those who are poorly, or are worried about their own health or the health of loved ones.
Have as good a day as possible everyone.

RosesandLilac Sun 19-Oct-25 07:26:36

Good morning, it’s a trifle damp here on the hillside in south Glos, it’s going to be a soggy Sunday dog walk shortly. I was chilly on our afternoon walk yesterday, it’s suddenly starting to get cooler.
The leaf colour is beautiful across the woods behind us, they’re beginning to fall now so lots of lovely scrunchy leaves underfoot.
I’ll do the ironing this morning, baked gammon for dinner is ready to go in the oven.
I had a very enjoyable day yesterday with my favourite artist, a Zoom tutorial. I learned a lot and will start my version later 😊
I wish we had an artisan baker near here Karmalady, I really fancy a delicious pastry and a decent loaf of proper bread!
Have a peaceful day everyone 🌹

Good morning from Shropshire.Heavy rain forecast for most of the day.

Taylormania was a really good show.Seeing DGD’s excitement was worth the assault on our eardrums.Today will be a very quiet day.

I hope Blossoming is settled back at home.

Thoughts to all our mountaineers.

Wishing everyone the best day possible🦩🌻

We still have DD2 and 2 granddaughters here - they will leave after lunch.

We had a fun brunchvtime yesterday withe DS1, DDS2 &3 and 4 grandchildren here for traditional pre-football hot dogs. Luckily I had fried the onions on Friday.

Good morning all. Heavy rain is forecast for the day in Glasgow
so there goes my plan to pot up a bay standard I bought recently.

I am so, so very grateful for such lovely messages of support and kindness I received yesterday just what I needed when I had reached a very low point. I send a heartfelt, thank you. 🙏

Great idea for another Glasgow Grannies meet up Grammaretto I would be up for that anytime for a day of laughter and blethering.
I appreciated the ‘moins pire’ GM. It makes perfect sense.

My best to all for a pleasant Sunday and may the day be kinder to those coping with worries and struggles.
Keep on keeping on.

Good morning everyone from Inverness where it’s just getting light and looks like there’s a few clouds around
Hope all goes well for your DS and his house move karma
I enjoyed last nights line dancing social evening, it was at the local village hall and everyone took drinks and nibbles. Lots of laughter, a few dances that I could do and a good catch up with very friendly people. Today we’re off of DD2s to help out with a few jobs
Hoping your back is a bit better soon redcar
Kalu 💐
Thinking of everyone with worries and struggles, hope today is gentle and take care all whatever the day brings 💐

Morning from a dark overcast S Hants, rain is imminent, grandson has football locally this afternoon, MrJ will go and watch.
Yesterday was quiet, newspaper and iPad shopping, today I’ll try and get a walk in, meat draw with Chase the Ace later in our local. I was missed on Friday apparently, creatures of habit and a village, everyone asks after you.
Very autumnal peli.

Good morning from the Essex coast. Very grey and cloudy at the moment but rain is due later.
Yesterday we had a trip out to Lakeside and I bought a dress primarily to wear on our Christmas cruise.
Today DH is off to rugby.
Poor S has been admitted to hospital a couple of times this past week. I'm really concerned what a cold winter is going to be like for her.
Thinking of FGT and her darling man and anyone else going through tough times.
Best wishes to all xx

Good morning from South Lanarkshire where the rain is tipping down and the temperature has dropped a few degrees.

Yesterday was a beautiful, mild, still day, perfect for being out and about. We had a smashing day, the historic Hill House was beautiful and well worth seeing.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hill_House,_Helensburgh

Our friends’ daughter had worked hard to surprise them last night with a gathering of all the people who had helped them last year when her Dad was seriously ill. It was a happy evening with lots of laughter.

A quiet day ahead. DH had begun painting the skirtings and doors off the hall yesterday while I was out with the intention of carrying on today. I suspect he’ll have a bit of a sore head this morning though. grin

Sending my best wishes to everyone for as good a day as possible.

GrannyGravy13 Sun 19-Oct-25 08:00:59

Good morning from a brightening S E Essex, we have rain forecast ☔️

A quiet day, portioning up and freezing after my batch cooking yesterday. Then I need to sort out the bottom of one of my wardrobes which has had stuff put in when moving around due to builders.

This afternoon will be my kindle and sofa.

Roast beef for dinner around 7pm.

Thinking of our poorly GM friends and their DH’s 🙋‍♀️

Good morning Mick and all GN's on a dark still morning where I can just now see the outline of the tree but nothing else in North Yorkshire. Back at home, and slowly returning to routine, but now it is lights and heating and dressing gowns needed to even start the morning.

I am rather struggling getting going this morning, as usual aches and pains but knees have decided to take centre stage for hurting. Well I did make quite an effort yesterday, and got some shopping and did the washing and sorted things from coming home, so they did have to do quite a lot of bending etc., but am pleased with the start I have made. Now waiting for a bit more daylight to get the washing on the line asap. We are promised a lot of rain a bit later, and I am going out to lunch so want to at least give them a bit of a blow first, even if they have to come in and go on the clothes horse to dry properly.

I will have to take things steadily this morning, so it will be a case of doing a job and then sitting down and reading a bit of the paper and then more of the same. Rather a frustrating way to go on, as I was the kind of person who preferred to do one job and get it finished and ticked off, but have at last learned that I get less done by doing that if I make my back worse etc, so it is a two way job these days. In parallel I have a sitting down job and a standing job, and have learnt the signs as to when I need to swap over. Ah well we live and learn dont we. Today I have lunch to look forward to, and it will provide a clear plan for the day, so it is going to be what I can do beforehand, then making an effort to look reasonably tidy and off to Thirsk for lunch with Sue and her husband. Shall probably have a look round the sunday market at thirsk as well while I am there and then home to catch up with a few more jobs. This is just physically, mentally I do feel rested and I enjoy the wonderful autumn colours and walking in the fresh air well wrapped up. I have a variety of coats and jackets, from a simple fleece to my heavyweight very warm and rainproof jacket from TOG that I bought for going to the artic, so my checking on the weather does not go 8 degrees and windy , but ah blue jacket weather, leading to black TOG weather later!! I must also check my darker days routine, with coats. I make sure that I have a little pair of thermal gloves and a hat in the pocket of each coat plus checking my little torches at the ready and new batteries in them. I think this is the time of year you can get caught out. You go in the afternoon to something and by the time you come out it has got darker and colder than you think, so I find it simpler and easier to make sure everything has something at the ready in the pockets. My other useful idea I pass on to everyone is to have a white opaque plastic shopping bag folded up in a pocket. If you do find yourself caught out or walking where there is no path or lights, if you carry this on the side nearest the cars then the carlights shine and pick it up quickly and you are visible. You also have a bag for all those bits you bought when you only intended to get a paper!!

I plan to use this calmer and rested me, to firstly go through paperwork and appointments to check up on things needing to be done, as I know I must sort my car tax out for one, and begrudgingly go for the flipping extra blood test that they forgot to do last time etc. Then the week will be mostly weather decided jobs, so if it is sunny and dry, I shall get the rest of the plants put in and have to look up and work out what to do with my Acer. It has been fine in this pot, but intended to move it up a pot size, only to find that it had managed to root through the hole in the bottom of the pot. So need to work out whether to just leave it for the winter , risk cutting through the root and moving it up a pot with all new soil, but that might encourage it to put on growth, which is not what you want coming into the winter. Anyway at last I am in garden sorting mode and will either be actually moving plants around and finally planting up my bulbs or getting out my garden planning ideas and decide what will go where next. Definitely want to get down to Harlow carr if possible this week to see all the lovely colours and get a buggy to go round before it is half term. There is no chance that I could walk round these days , but grateful that the buggys do at least allow me still to visit and enjoy the lovely colours there. On wet or miserable days, I am going to make a real effort to get this wretched dresser stuff finished, cleared away and at last get rid of the dresser by hook or by crook. At the moment I cant really see how it is going to get out of the doors, but perhaps it comes to pieces, which I will discover when everything is cleared away. Ah the great encouragement to get on with it is to think of a lovely big bookcase filled with all my books and all set out in their groups of gardening, music, art etc instead of all having to be higgledy piggledy at the moment and never where I want them to be. Well that is the thoughts and plans! No doubt I shall be distracted from such things any time there is a chance to get out and make the most of the daylight. I used to get up at this time of year and be up and out as soon as there was daylight to make the most of it. Sadly it takes me so long to get up these days that it will be nearly lunchtime before I am up to going out. Ah well see how it goes.

Well done Mick to get things organised for your digital phone stuff. You need to have all your numbers transferred these days as they are not easy ones to remember . I am old enough to remember the three letters followed by the numbers, and they stuck in your memory and were easy to bring to mind. I have a quick dial thing for my sons number, but still cannot remember it myself without checking it, and as for my own, having had to recently change it , I remember the last 5 numbers but for the life of me cannot get the first bit to stick and have to look at it written on a piece of paper in my wallet if I need to give it to someone!! GrandMattie how cheeky of them to leave the t towels for you to do. Didnt even let them dry out so as not to be so smelly. I would be defininitely having a few words that running the cafe or whatever means ALL the jobs , which includes washing tea towels. They take you for granted as it is , with all you do but I think this is taking the mickey. Perhaps you could suggest that you no longer do every cafe or baking but cut back to every other or whatever as they have shown that they do not know how to run things without you. Then you could come in and "supervise" ie go in as a customer and sit down and watch how they manage. If need be, you could suggest a rota, so that each person has a time with you to see how things are done properly, and then it could be worth having to suddenly go somewhere and not be available for your normal shift and get one of them to do it. It always sounds as though your food is lovely and if I could use a TARDIS I would transport myself down to try some, but one day you will want or need to retire from this and it would be such a shame if the lovely things you have made and done is allowed to dwindle or close. Your vicar should be seeing this and helping to spread the load. Peli, where is MS? you have probably been on here much longer than me , which is why I dont know where you are living. Would be nice to know. Reading of all the food being made has made me very hungry and so am off to put the kettle on and enjoy a sit down with the papers. There is more daylight and I can now see the tree properly and lots of golden leaves under the tree, but mostly still green on the tree. No signs of squirrels or pigeons so far but a bit more breeze now, which should be good to give my washing a blow. Hope everyone has a peaceful and happy sunday.

I’ve just quickly caught up with yesterday’s thread Kalu. I’m so sorry that you’re struggling a little but very happy to see you posting again. Good idea about a meet up Grammaretto, we (Baggs and I) were talking about that very thing yesterday.

Grandmabatty Sun 19-Oct-25 08:17:33

Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 9° and wet. It looks like it's on for a while. GrandMattie I think it's cheeky to leave all the dirty tea towels for you to clean.
Yesterday I enjoyed my catch up with my friend and her daughter as well as breakfast. I also got most of the housework and washing done too, which pleased me.
Today I'll have to get food in. The hordes (dgs1 and dgs2) will be here tomorrow and shopping with them in town would not be without incident! So I'll stir my stumps soon and head to Aldi. Later I have a small ironing to do. I wish I could be like Samantha in 'Bewitched' and wriggle my nose and it would be done. Mentally I feel better than I have for a while but my feet are extremely painful so back to regular painkillers it is. I would have done a little weeding today but I think the rain is on for the day. Dinner might be gammon or steak pie, I can't decide. Have a good day all.

luluaugust Sun 19-Oct-25 08:18:17

Good morning from a cloudy W Kent. Quiet day today, we had a lovely visit from DD2 yesterday and caught up.
A bit of cake making later and I am rereading some of my Mary Stewart books after many years. The chapters are very long compared to most modern books.
Best wishes to all

Grandmabatty Sun 19-Oct-25 08:18:24

Sar I'm really sorry to hear about your dgd. I hope that they can get her stabilised soon. Poor girl.

Good morning from Cambridgeshire where it is forecast a wet day. Today our decorating continues one bedroom done and the next one starting today. I am the chief tea/coffee maker and clear up person. In between my duties I’m going to make the Hairy Bikers mince and tumble spud pie for dinner. We also have a very good Artisan bakery albeit very expensive and I will pop by for a fresh loaf for lunch. They do very delicious cheese straws and chocolate and hazelnut brownies…. The tempting treats are endless. Hope you enjoy your treats karmalady

Wishing everyone a good day
