Good morning from Bristol.
My tai chi class went well. As the Townswomen’s guild, which has since closed, is paying the 3rd party insurance at the moment, the class still goes on. But it expires by the end of the year, the teacher doesn’t pay it, one wonders what will happen. It is already very expensive, I shan’t be able to afford an increase. BTW, has anyone heard from taichinan “. She hasn’t posted for some time.
The baby quilt is progressing well, I have started to assemble the blocks, backed and interlined. Mostly hand sewing now.
Spanish today. I have missed two classes. An absence is very noticeable as we are only 6 in the class.
I was glad to learn how much difference a hernia belt/truss has made to fgt’s Himself.
Best wishes to all those who need it.

Good morning from Malta where we expect a sunny day with a high of 24°C.

We had a walk up to the village yesterday as I had to collect some trousers I’d had altered. We then went for a walk along the seafront which was very pleasant as the cool breeze made the heat easier to bear.

We had a snack lunch before going home where I did very little apart from watching a bit of tennis whilst my friend knitted the most adorable, tiny blue cardigan for a baby. I wish I had the patience.

Another sunny day in store today so we will go out at some stage. I have my weekly hairdo at noon so must not forget it this week!

DD1 has decided to adopt the little dog she has been fostering. She couldn’t bear to give her back. Poor little thing was found on the Mexican border in Texas having had a litter of pups. She then went to a shelter in South Carolina where they euthanise dogs if nobody adopts them. She was then taken with eighty other dogs and cats to the rescue centre in DC where DD1 found her, cowering and terrified after her ordeal.

After just a week with DD1 she’s already looking so much better, playing with toys and going for walks with her new brother, DD1’s other rescue dog Bertie. Her name is Penny and she’s going to have a lovely life now.

Have a good day all.☀️

Morning from a dark S Hants, can’t hear rain.
Ekwanimitee is absent too gMattie
Collecting our friend from our local airport yesterday it was so windy the pilot had to have two goes at landing, second time fine.
Other than that I called into the M&S food hall, so tempting, but just bought the necessities.
On the way back pharmacy for prescription remnants.
This morning stretch class, then two tyres for my car £££, grocery delivery pm.
So pleased the FGT’s had a great day yesterday.

Good morning from a calmer Nogent le Bernard following a stormy day yesterday. Let’s hope Storm Benjamin has done his worst now and you are all safe and warm.

Perhaps your teacher could get advice or financial support from the Council or Ageing Well for the insurance, grandMattie.

Shopping in Lidl today and a pharmacy visit for DH.

DD2 is phoning soon on her drive to work so it will be good to hear her news.

Have the best day you can, especially those who are struggling. 🦩🥰🦩💐🦩

Good morning Mick and all GN's on yet another very dark and cold morning in North Yorkshire .Very dark outside, cant see even an outline of the tree yet, but feels cold at the moment. I am supposed tobe getting going early this morning as I have a buggy booked for RHS harlow carr for this morning.. Just at the moment it is rather debatable if or when I will get there. Today have rather a headache to add to usual creaks and woes, and am struggling to move about much so cant yet get into the magic shower to ease things, but hopefully will shortly get the brain cells moving and in turn the rest of the cells doing likewise!!

I will get there though , as I think it is likely to be the only chance to see the garden in the autumn glory. Wont be going there next week, being half term, and the way the winds are going and the weather dont know how long the flowers and trees will hold on before the wind swirls them all about, so added encouragement to get going asap!

Yesterday was rather a rushed day one way and another and of course I didnt do half the stuff I wanted to. Someone called and so I was later than I wanted to be going to the womens group, but it was very pleasant when I did get there. We were reading jokes and poems we like etc etc and it was very enjoyable, learning new poems from other people and another lady had got the Jenny Joseph poem so I had a couple of other ones instead. It went on a bit longer than I though it would and I then called in at the butcher and bought some shin beef to make a warming casserole that afternoon. Had got all ingredients but was struggling quite a lot, sat down when I had put shopping away and a couple of other jobs to ease my back and fell asleep!! With such rotten nights I am glad of any extra sleep I get, but maddening to miss the end of the programme, not get casserole made etc!! So have now had to freeze the meat as havent got time to do it today nor tomorrow. Never mind I will have it in and ready when I am up to doing it. Definitely time for stews and finding warmer clothes out now. I do feel the cold more than I used to. Partly when I am on the yellow peril , of course not walking so feel the chill more. Even when I am walking about now I am so much slower and cant hurry like I did.

Well I am looking forward to seeing the garden as it has been some time since I went there. jobs left behind will just have to wait. I couldnt have done much today anyway. Will buy my local paper on the way and see what is happening this weekend, now the weather will be a big part in deciding what I do, and I need to think about any winter stuff I need in the car. Always have a high viz jacket at the ready in the car with me, if there is any fog or problems at least you will be able to see me.

Hope you have agood trip this morning Mick and a smooth transfer to your new phone. GrandMattie hope the spanish lesson goes well and you catch up with your group. Think looking at the forecast you will be getting on well with your quilt, doesnt look as though the weather will be encouraging us to get out and about. Hope all gn's have a good day , whatever they plan to do today

Aldom Fri 24-Oct-25 06:41:51

Good morning Mick and everyone.
I'm sitting here surrounded by boxes I have packed during the week. I move out of my house next week. Today is the day we exchange contracts. It's such a strange feeling to think that, very soon I will not live here anymore. At the same time I'm beginning to feel excited about returning to Shropshire.
I have to email my solicitor soon, then set up insurance for the house I'm buying. More packing and a quick shop for food. So that's my day.
Thinking of all who need strength and support.

Good morning from a dark S E Essex

The 10yr old is still sleeping, I will wake him at 7am, he likes a hot breakfast, so I shall wait for my orders, make his packed lunch and off he goes for an 8am start.

I shall go to the gym this morning, a quick catchup and cup of tea afterwards. Then wonder three doors along for a manicure. Should be home about 1ish.

Do not think we shall go out for dinner this evening, I fancy a Chinese takeaway.

Have a good day 🙋‍♀️

dragonfly46 Fri 24-Oct-25 06:54:06

Good morning from a very dark East Midlands.
DH seems to have plateaued at the moment. He is very reluctant to get out of bed despite having had many of the tubes detached.

DS is going to stay today. He is going through a hard time at the moment and in need of hugs.

Wishing everyone the best day possible.

RosesandLilac Fri 24-Oct-25 07:01:21

Good morning from south Glos, it’s damp and chilly (4°) but the wind has dropped- it was a bitter northerly yesterday.
I moved my art materials in the Shed back into the house, I do have a heater on a frost setting there but I won’t be using it as much over the winter.
I spent a couple of hours faffing around with art materials and then another Zoom art session yesterday evening- that’s 6 in a week and a total of 15 + hours! No wonder my brain is aching this morning 😁
All very enjoyable.
Art group this morning, I’ll walk tiddler first. I have several pieces of work on the go but I might just take something simple? Not sure.
Cold chicken and chips for dinner, I might make some coleslaw. Apple crumble and custard for pudding.
Best wishes to everyone 🌹

Good morning all from a chilly North Leicestershire.

Waitrose and the butcher's this morning while DH does a volunteer drive. A lazy afternoon and Burgerologist tonight.

Have the best day possible everyone.

Good morning from s somerset and the weather is cooling, today might be bright

My poor heating engineer was upset yesterday, gutted because he could not fix my boiler, ariston had sent the wrong part, for the slightly newer version not the older one. My builder must have had a cheap job lot. My plumber is going on holiday today and I would rather wait for him as he knows my boiler well now. I spent time re-assuring him and de-stressing him.

So another 12 days of no central heating nor hot water but the sun will help if it appears. I have one old lightweight and super-efficient portable dyson heater, which I can take from room to room and today I switched the ensuite towel rail on for a while, with the door open. I have never used that rail via the switch, not since I moved in. I have just checked and that towel rail is hot.

I have an hour of free electricity this evening so will have all the heating appliances on, including an open oven.

Royal mail are bringing me a parcel today and I need to stay in for that, some new dpns this time for more sock-making. Easier on my hands than the very short metal circulars

Have a good day

Good morning everyone from a still dark, dry Northampton; no rain forecast today.

A very pleasant coffee morning yesterday, lots of news catch-up. Arrangements were made for a Christmas lunch at the local garden centre - we do not need to book as the cafe there does not take bookings. I need to pop round to a neighbour this morning with cake and flapjacks as I promised some for her DH!

The rain had stopped by the afternoon, so I hopped on the bus to the shops, and got the few things I needed for the weekend.

Managed to book last night for a friend and I to see a new film, The Choral, about a Yorkshire choir during the first World War - have seen the trailer and it looks very good.

Looking through my magazines other day I noticed a lovely cardigan pattern, and I have been inspired to knit again, so I ordered the wool straight away! But I must finish a cardigan I started two years ago..... It only needs sewing up, which I hate, and has been languishing in a drawer since then.....

Dance classes this morning, then tonight I am out to a rugby match; we are playing Saracens, a big match, and it is sold out. The atmosphere will be great!

Wishing all a pleasant day.

Grandmabatty Fri 24-Oct-25 07:26:34

Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 4° and dry. Much cooler today. Madeleine I hope you manage to get out. Your descriptions are always lovely. Aldom good luck with your house move. Bellasnana your daughter has saved that little dog from an awful fate. God bless her.
Yesterday I did little except sleep. I needed it.
Today I'm feeling much better after a decent night's sleep. I was still up a few times for the loo, but had long stretches of good sleep in between. I need to phone the lawyer about signing away the title deeds for mum's flat. I'll be glad once that's done and I won't be responsible for it any more. I have no plans for today so I'll probably potter about the house. Have a good day all.

Morning Mick, morning All from a chilly corner of Somerset. Spots of rain on the window

Volunteering this morning then eye hospital clinic for three hours this afternoon. The appointment is thankfully at the local hospital

Wishing you all the best day it can be.

Good morning everyone from mid Essex. It’s dry, clear and cold outside, the heating has been on for an hour and the radiators are hot!
Yesterday was very wet and windy so I didn’t go out for my usual walk. The wind blew the grandchildren’s slide over and one of the compost bins was rolling around the garden. I’ve left them both wedged beside the shed, where they may stay for a while!
DD2 will take me to my godmother’s bungalow this morning for a meeting with the solicitor who will be dealing with probate. I’m sure the stress of the situation isn’t helping my back.
Good to read that the fgts had a more relaxing day yesterday.
aldom I hope that contracts are exchanged today and that your move goes smoothly next week, an exciting challenge for you.

madeleine enjoy your day at Harlow Carr.

Thoughts with those who are struggling.
Have as good a day as possible folks.

ginny Fri 24-Oct-25 07:39:25

Good morning from N. Bucks. 4 c here at the moment, certainly missing the Malta weather.
Spent yesterday with a very painful foot and it is no better this morning so won’t be hobbling far from home today.
I managed to make a GP appointment re. Shoulders, hand and foot, earliest one with an actual GP was mid November. If I wanted to see my designated GP it would be end of December ! Now have to make an appointment for a blood test requested by the Diabetic nurse.
Should have been going to WI sewing group this afternoon but think I’ll stay in the warm , I can sew here instead and maybe paint a few Christmas cards.
Wishing improvement for all the poorlies and a good day for all.

luluaugust Fri 24-Oct-25 07:42:37

Good morning from a damp W Kent where I shall be shopping this morning and baking this afternoon.
Good luck for the move Aldom
Best wishes

Good Morning from a cool, windy Durham, where rain is forecast this afternoon. With a heavier tog duvet, I’ve slept a solid 6 hours and feel refreshed.
I have an empty today and my head is telling me to do something with it, especially with half-term holidays next week and my DDs both suffering with Covid - I could be needed.

Hopefully, some of our poorlies will be feeling better/more content today.

Best wishes to all. X

Morning all from a chilly West Oxfordshire.

I will attend an Arts Society lecture this morning. OH isn’t interested in the topic so he will drop me off (the parking is abysmal) and do some shopping before coming back to collect me.

After lunch elder son is bringing our granddaughter to stay. It is half term next week so she is coming for a few days. I have planned a few things for her.

Have a good day everyone.

brook2704 Fri 24-Oct-25 07:54:40

Good morning everyone from Inverness where its still dark but looks dry outside
Hoping things improve for your DS dragonfly and your DH makes some more progress too
So sorry you’re still having to wait for your boiler to be fixed karma I hope you manage to keep warm enough
I’m got a dance class at the gym at lunchtime but nothing else planned. Our lovely visitors have now left so the house seems quiet again. There’s the bedding and towels to wash sometime and a top up food shop but that’s about it
Hoping all goes well with the move Aldom
Thinking of everyone with worries and struggles, hope today is gentle and take care all whatever the day brings 💐

luluaugust Fri 24-Oct-25 07:55:56

FGT just read your post in Soops kitchen, so pleased you and himself had a happy day

Aldom Fri 24-Oct-25 07:56:18

Bellasnana your description of your daughter's rescue dog brought tears to my eyes. How wonderful the dog has been given a loving home. If only that could be so for all those poor dogs.

Good morning from misty South Lanarkshire.

How lovely of your DD Bella.

I’m looking for a lamp for the hall table having managed to somehow break two over the last couple of years. I need something with a heavy base so I’m off to the real shops today.

Visiting friends this evening, I believe we’re having Mexican food.

Wishing everyone the best day possible.
