Just saw my first store Christmas advert. The Grinch at Asda.
Anyone seen any others yet?

I can't believe that anyone would object to ethnicity in an advert!
How ridiculous.

Crossed posts Allira was really just eye-rolling!

Are you saying we're old enough to remember vinyl?

shock

No, and it was a fake anyway.

Cribbs Causeway was part of an old Roman road, apparently.
Now it's covered in shops, eateries, huge warehouse-like stores!

I prefer to refer to shops
“Stores” is American - unless referring to department stores
So while the term might be appropriate for John Lewis, it is not for Asda, Tesco and the like.
I shop at supermarkets, not “grocery stores”
#justsaying.

Just seen the Christmas JL one... It's quite touching.
As for Vinyl, my 27 year old Nephew is a very popular DJ in the area, and it's all done with Vinyl.

I wouldn't call Asda at Cribbs Causeway a shop. It describes itself as a 'Supercentre'.

Store Guide
With over 150 stores at Cribbs Mall and the Retail Park, you're spoilt for choice.

Who am I to argue?

However, Dunelm describes itself as a shop!

I say shop or supermarket, but they all refer to instore offers or offers instore. Weird?

J52 Wed 05-Nov-25 10:53:44

I don’t care much for the JL one, it reminds me of the one a few years ago that was the mother and son with the presents under the tree.
I like the Aldi one because I like the little dog in it!
I’m getting soppy in my old age 😂

J52 Wed 05-Nov-25 10:57:37

Meant to add, apparently the story will in unfold in the weeks up to Christmas. The dog’s called Caulidog.

I like the John Lewis one because it’s giving the young actor who plays the son, a step up the acting ladder. He’s so unassuming and delighted with his new found fame. Acting is a lovely job if you don’t need to rely on the income. I loved the way they treat you with such respect. Food on tap. I did a Bollywood movie and the lunch was lovely.

Just seen the JL one.
It doesn't really "do it" for me but as an advert it did what it wanted and made me look at it!

Not a shop, but the Barbour clothing Christmas advert is a lovely, a Wallace And Gromit tale.
I haven’t seen it on TV yet, but it can be Googled.

Saw the new JL Christmas ad a few mins ago, thoroughly underwhelming as to ad and music, and I didn’t know what product if any it was showing as a gift, admittedly I was looking at the post as it just arrived.
Don’t like the BFG ad either but maybe young kids will.

Crossstitchfan Sat 08-Nov-25 11:50:42

I don’t like the Christmas ads because the writers seem hell-bent on making the viewer cry. John Lewis is renowned for this but I see others are now following suit. It’s pathetic.

Usedtobeblonde Sat 08-Nov-25 11:53:08

I think the Sainsbury’s one is rubbish.

Esmay Sat 08-Nov-25 12:43:39

I like BFG one for Sainsburys .
The Grinch OK not great .
I wasn't impressed with Dawn French for Marks and Sparks.

Dottydots Sat 08-Nov-25 14:40:52

Just watched the John Lewis ad. I was totally disappointed with it. Not at all Christmasy and the music wasn't my cup of tea at all. I hope we don't have too many repeats of it. I like to watch something that warms my heart at that time of year.

Visgir1 Sat 08-Nov-25 15:51:53

J52... Your right the Barbour one is great, I think the best one so far, this year. I saw it on Instagram.

Maggiemaybe Wed 12-Nov-25 23:42:13

I’ve just watched the Tesco one online and it made me smile. A family squabble or two, trying and failing to get a family photo and nobody talking to grandad “because I had an opinion”. smile

NotAGran55 Thu 13-Nov-25 06:41:18

The Waitrose one is brilliant. Almost 4 minutes long!

For me adverts are the time to make some coffee, go to the loo, write shopping lists. So I am a deep disappointment to any market research or email queries where I am happy to constantly tell them that no I dont remember any of them, no nothing they put on makes me buy something - well in the past it was the opposite. I hated that stupid Persil with a twee little girl asking why are your hands so soft mummy! Obviously it did work as an advert but not in the way they wanted it to. It was years ago and I specifically did NOT buy the product as I was annoyed at all of it, the tone of voice, the assumption that only women did washing, that the state of your hands was of major importance to you and that the poor child was being brought up to believe in such rubbish and speak with such a horrible voice!! However I do remember one or two adverts that were funny for a little while but they pall very quickly. I am aware that I will be influenced by some of the adverts in some way but I am determined to carry on doing my own thing, making up my own mind as to what I buy and also of course I ignore any advertising for things that I would love to have but cannot afford such as emerals cashmere coats etc etc!! Dont think I am likely to find any of them in the local market!

Maggiemaybe Thu 13-Nov-25 08:35:19

I’m guessing most of us ignore most of the adverts most of the time. I certainly do, but I always make an exception for the Christmas ones.
