It’s a gloomy day, but this brought a huge smile to my face! I’m so pleased for him, well done Sir David Beckham.

I could counter that by identifying the benefit Beckham has brought and continues to bring to UNICEF, for which he is an ambassador, his other charities, and to promoting the UK, as one of the most recognisable faces in the world Aveline, but I won’t - will just be happy for him instead and ignore your negative comments.

Honestly no wonder our country has so many angry, disaffected, negative people if we can’t accept a knighthood for Beckham

As for sneering at his wife, or because some of us accept they’ve worked at their marriage and their family - what good comes of that

Allira Wed 05-Nov-25 11:32:57

Well said Iam64 and Casdon.

I warmed to them both after watching their Netflix documentaries. They’ve both worked hard and weathered many storms and heartache together.
A stand out comment from Victoria when everything was going wrong for her Paris fashion show,
‘No wonder I drink!’

Screaming at the staff and self pitying dramatics are clearly not her style.

Paddyanne, Didn't you once have business dealings with the RF? Perhaps I am mistaken. Bearing in mind your extreme dislike of them it would seem a bit improbable!

JdotJ Wed 05-Nov-25 17:08:35

I thought it nice that said to Charles "how are you"?

I wasn't there......
my lip reading skills came into their own

Perhaps Victoria smiles when she has something genuine to smile about - at home, with her family or with friends. She looks serious, but not miserable, and at least isn't wearing the 'slap on grin' that looks so false on some in the public eye.

I went off him when his emails were leaked when he was overlooked previously. He called the Honours Committee unappreciative c****s. Nice. A sign of someone who only does charitable things to get recognition.

Totally agree, those emails were horrendous and there were several of them, he obviously thought he should have been awarded the honour years ago. I'm surprised that the palace hierarchy has forgiven him for his vile comments.

Scottiegran999 Wed 05-Nov-25 17:42:17

I think they are an amazing couple. The best dress I’ve ever owned was designed by her. I absolutely love it. Easy to wear, comfortable, v glam. It obviously means a lot to them to have this award. Respect!

Meant Aveline

rafichagran Wed 05-Nov-25 17:51:08

I am pleased for him. The honour was not because he played football, it was was because of his charity work and what he bought to the game.

Are some of you incapable of being pleased for someone?

Sr69 Wed 05-Nov-25 17:52:24

Very harsh comments Aveline!

Aveline Wed 05-Nov-25 18:44:00

My opinion. Harsh but true. His PR staff must be over the moon.

Iam64 Wed 05-Nov-25 18:58:38

Aveline, yes your harsh opinion, you’re welcome to it but that doesn’t make it true

I was seduced into watching it by youngest 39 year old d, she included fizz in the invitation to watch. I don’t think it was solely the fizz, I found myself liking both of them. Yes and admiring the way they’ve stayed together despite all the pressures

graciemabel Wed 05-Nov-25 20:13:27

Not sure he's genuine. I too read the leaked e-mail, so not as nice as he makes out!

Esmay Wed 05-Nov-25 20:27:41

By all accounts they are a very pleasant couple.
But so many people do charity work and don't get a gong.
Shane that Brooklyn is still estranged -but that's the trend these days.

Aveline Wed 05-Nov-25 20:33:26

That email was true and accurate. His huge fee for promoting the Qatar venue is true. Their human rights trashing appalling. That's true too.

Casdon Wed 05-Nov-25 20:41:20

You underestimate his value to the UK Aveline, he is the biggest sportsman we have, and the fee reflects that.

Camry1952 Wed 05-Nov-25 20:43:27

I'd nominate him for sexiest man alive! Can't understand why his wife never smiles. If he was my husband I'd be absolutely giddy!

Nanny27 Wed 05-Nov-25 21:27:06

I'm with Camry.blush

I.think this Knighthood business belongs to another age and should have been done away with years ago.

First of all..Sir Beckham's suit was truly awful and looked as though it had been cobbled up from a discarded Eighties McCalls or Simplicity patten found in a Charity Shop bargain bin.

I doubt Victoria, Lady Beckham has ever threaded a needle. Never mind sew.

Saint David was a really good footballer but also a bit of a spoilt brat and very egotistical, pushy and self centered.

Then one of the top on the make Celeb.

Scratch below the surface of his Charitable work to see the real man

How would soon loose his halo.

However if JRM..Jacob Rees Mogg can become a Knight and part people like Jimmy Saville.

Saint David is in good company.

I rest my case.

😇🧎👎

Eau back in 2019, among the posts saying the honours are out dated and should be scrapped, a post from EV said,

“I bet the Beckhams were waiting in anticipation too.”

Nice to see he’s moved off the waiting list.

Anniebach Wed 05-Nov-25 22:29:58

Why ‘done away with’ ? Has his award hurt anyone , did it cause hurt to anyone ? He is so joyful, as are his family.

OldFrill Thu 06-Nov-25 00:19:07

Sharp suit Sir, British mohair no less.
