Pauline Collins has died.

I liked Pauline Collins, very pretty lady. Sorry to see she has died.

I must be in the minority though regarding Shirley Valentine, as I was not keen on the film, all that talking to the camera.

Loved Pauline Collins. Shirley Valentine is one of my favourites. My friend moved to Greece and that was one of her leaving presents.

DH and I went to dinner with Pauline and her husband John Alderton many years ago. (We were all involved in a national charity)

She was absolutely charming, as was John, witty with no delusions of grandeur.

She was one of my favourite actresses. I saw a clip this morning from Shirley Valentine where she asks the waiter to take her table to the sea. She must have brought comfort to many bored, neglected women.

Gosh, that's a shock. I recently saw her on television in an old but excellent programme as a leader of elderly people in a home who were bored. It was excellent - very entertaining. How very sad.

She was 85 with Parkinson's. Hardly a shock.

I love Shirley Valentine. She was also in a film called Quartet, as an ageing opera singer with early dementia. Beautifully done. Parkinson's is a horrible illness, poor woman.

A little ‘snippy’, Sarnia! If they didn’t know she had Parkinson’s and hadn’t thought about her age, it might be a shock. It was to me, even though I knew she had the disease.

I think the ‘shock’ is realising she was 85.

So many times, we read about the death of someone famous, and we still think of them as they were, 50 years ago.

At least, I do.

I loved watching Pauline Collins, she was also in Forever Green and the Cabbage Wars film about a dodgy care home with John Alderton, her husband.

Same age as as my dear Mum who sadly has advanced dementia.

When I heard of her death I was surprised.
At our age, one just has to enjoy the days we have left. Both my brothers are now having to take it easy as both have had serious conditions.

Years ago, DH and I had a rare evening at one of the London theatres and went to see Pauline Collins in Shirley Valentine on stage. At the beginning I can remember feeling a bit disappointed that there was only one ‘star’ in the show. If I remember correctly, only one actor in the whole performance.

We were completely blown away by her amazing ability to transport us to a Greek island without any props at all and have been fans ever since.
