Can anyone recommend a board game that I might buy for my family to play this Christmas? Thank you

Last year I bought Herd Mentality - great fun and suitable for all ages

While not board games, both UNO and DUTCH BLITZ are wonderful games for all ages, and actually the younger players can easily beat their elders in both games! They are both card based games, played around a table, they inspire a lot of chat & fun as the game develops.

I bought my family the cheaters version of monopoly, they love it and such a good time it was worth every penny paid.

Monopoly in my family

Not a board game but a fun card game is Taco Cat Goat Cheese Pizza.
Great fun ...you need fast reflexes !

My GC always want to play this with me because my arthritic hands are too slow. I take smugness to a new level any time I manage to win.

Oh yes, Azul is a good, easy to pick up game.
Everyone likes it and it's quick to play.

If you/they like board games I'd watch a few video reviews of how they play once you've chosen a couple to shortlist.

Labyrinth (mentioned earlier) is a good game but it's not 1st choice here anymore (though the younger ones do really like the images and it's nicely made).

Years ago we had a junior version too and I do still like it.

A really good but old board game is Bonanza. It’s a card based board game. I think you can get it on EBay.
A fun game which we played a few years ago and now a family favourite is What’s in the Bag but not a board game.

I think this may be Bohnanza?
(The bean game)...
👍

Another vote for Rummicub

Pandemic. Yes it is a game not the recent event. The players work as a team to defeat the game.

Second vote here for Rummikub!

Another vote for Quirkle; three generations of our family enjoy playing this, & those of us who aren't keen on strategy can just treat it like a giant quirky game of dominoes!

Because our 11-yr-old granddaughter is currently obsessed with maps & flags, we've just bought The World Game, which we're looking forward to trying out this Christmas

Our son bought us the card game Skipbo and it’s now a favourite with all he family

No definitely Bonanza, it’s very old based on the TV series, but it’s just a card game.

Ticket to Ride is excellent for all ages, also Catan.

Herd Mentality. Quick and holds people’s attention.

TattyBluebell Wed 12-Nov-25 19:44:43

Twister!

Pictionary. My son downloads (uploads?) a similar thing called Draw King onto the tv (from his mobile), and we each have to draw something - using the screen of his 'phone. We also like Bingo. I buy several small things for prizes - a notepad, stickers, badges, lollipops, socks, things like that.

Canadiangran your GC might like Dobble- lots of versions and easy for a child to beat an adult! It comes in a little round tin..good for travelling.
Has anyone bought the new Traitors game? Would welcome feedback!

Risk is great if you set time limits to move on and needs no numerical or liguistic skill.

67notout Wed 12-Nov-25 21:37:07

Ticket to Ride the European one, it’s excellent and we have three generations playing it

Bluesmum Wed 12-Nov-25 22:28:43

We have just got Uno. Zero not aboard game but more fun than Uno. Sequence is a good board game we always enjoy but limited to three players at a time.

Mexican Train goes down well with a wide range of ages

Apologies 1summer,
- the Bohnanza card game is also good.

We play both but Ticket to Ride tops it! Can't wait to play it again this weekend.

Cluedo, monopoly, Uno, Trivial Pursuits, Taxi, Scrabble, Risk are all family favourites.

Much loved and hilarious is Cards Against Humanity. But you need to be broad minded, and the box days for over 17s.

There is a junior version of Cards against humanity.
