I am 70, previously in good health. When I retired a couple of years ago I was swimming several times a week.now since my shoulder replacement in July I have been limited in activities and cannot swim at the moment. I am bored and need to be more active. I am looking for voluntary work, but need to be fit for this. I go for walks sometimes, but often find my days are too empty. This is getting me down and I am sinking into depression. I also suffer from insomnia. Any ideas?

Welcome to the world of insomnia Sallywally .

Oops sent by mistake or maybe it's my fat fingers !
Don't get volunteering burnout .
I found myself expected to volunteer every day of the week.
I had a lot of other things to do which I neglected now I'm playing catch up .
I recommend yoga for injuries .
Do find a good teacher .
Wishing you well .

All sort of groups need volunteer committees to run which can be mainly paperwork. I am thinking chairman, secretary, treasurer and committee members. This could be anything you are interested in or have knowledge of including sport.

I would also suggest signing up for online surveys such as Opinium or Y. You get paid, albeit a small amount, for doing these but they cover a wide variety of subjects and can be quite interesting.

As Esmay said, yoga really helps with healing and mobility I broke my shoulder 3 years ago and although it has taken a while I have almost full range again (70 yrs) plus all the flexibility in other areas I have gained!
