leaflets through the door

On this freezing cold day I am trying to keep warm myself and keep the heat in my flat. I have kept curtains closed for quite a while until I really need to look out, made sure that doors are closed etc, only to find that someone has shoved leaflets in my door, which did not fall to the floor, so are there keeping the letterbox open and letting in cold air. Luckily I am only just about to go out or they could have been there all day, not only letting cold air in, but letting people know that I am out. I am extremely annoyed by this , but the person had gone before I could see them.

I have looked through the leaflets and actually send an email to 2 of the people explaining what has happened, that they should make sure that these leaflets are posted properly through the boxes as they are at the moment, not only advertising that I am not in but they will not be remembered for what they offer to do , but for the annoyance and waste of money their leaflets have caused. Whether it will make the slightest difference I have no idea, but at least it let me have a moan about it. It is bad enough in the summer but right now I am very annoyed about it. What do others do?

That is exactly what I doJennerdysphoria especially this time of Year when inundated with requests from charities. I support local small charities not International ones. There are around 130,000 registered charities in the UK we can't give to all of them.

Fit one of those draught excluders to your letter boxes which appear to be made of scrubbing brushes; very difficult to force anything through which is why I always take a spatula when delivering leaflets.
Of course, when it is election time, you can complain 'no-one has canvassed me or even left any election information.'

A long time ago I was getting bombarded with leaflets but one local firm in particular was the worst for leaving them sticking out of the letter box. I knew for a fact that it was the owner doing the leaflet drops so I waited until I had a good bundle of unwanted leaflets from all and sundry and when I was next passing his business I posted them all through his letterbox and making sure it was open letting out his heat. Mean I know but it was quite satisfying. I haven't done it since.

Depends what you call junk mail. I deliver a local free magazine once a month. It contains info about local events, church gatherings, fund raising, local councillors, etc. It is funded by the adverts. So the adverts pay for the mags, I get paid to deliver them. I actually get paid to exercise! I don’t class the mags as ‘junk’ because they contain useful information, but if I see a sign saying ‘no junk mail’ I assume that the mag isn’t wanted. Their loss…

Oh, for goodness sake.....if this is really all you have to complain about, how lucky are you?!!

... I could be wrong, but I doubt that this issue is the only thing in the OP's life that she 'complains' or worries about.

'Life' is made up of major and minor events and matters and I think we are allowed to 'chat' - this issue is posted under CHAT - about the minor irritants in life without the presumption that such minor matters are somehow invalid because they aren't high on the subjective list of a random poster's causes-for-concern.

I don't understand your objection.
