Good afternoon kitchen pals. MrB and I have had a lovely day, with walks around the Dock before and after lunch, bacon toasties for brunch and general pottering . Tomorrow will be much the same. It’s quiet and peaceful here, I should imagine it will be like the ninth circle of hell at the top of the Dock, where we have B&M, Morrisons, Lidl and Aldi! I am so over that, and I no longer have the strength for it anymore. Have a lovely evening all, TOYA.

Brook so sorry to read about your DGD, hope she heals quickly and is not in too much pain x

Grandmabatty Tue 23-Dec-25 17:20:18

Evening Kitcheners.
I thought today would be quiet. I was wrong! I was in Tesco for seven and home by eight, having got everything on my list(and more). I tidied up the kitchen and then a neighbour appeared with presents for the boys. We were chatting when Dsil arrived with dgs1. Half an hour later dgs2 arrived with mummy. He'd been at the barbers and was sporting a snazzy new hair cut. Mummy and daddy left to go to Costco in Edinburgh and my aunt and uncle arrived with gifts for the boys and home knitted penguins. It was a riot! I fed the boys after they left and my brother appeared with gifts. He wouldn't stay. Not that I blame him as he doesn't do small children. I got dgs2 organised icing Christmas biscuits and the door went again. It was my Saturday breakfast pal with a present for me. This threw me slightly as we had exchanged gifts last week. However it was gratefully received. Dd and Dsil were delayed coming to pick up the boys because of a bad crash in my village so I had them longer than expected but they were very well behaved today. I've just sat down and I'll oven cook my pork medallion with veg later. My biggest problem will be staying awake. I've also done all dds tumble drying for her too.
Tomorrow will be a quick trip to the garden centre for a present for my neighbours then wait for ds to arrive. I hope you are all having a peaceful time and have a lovely Christmas. From me to you. X

Jaxjacky Tue 23-Dec-25 17:49:28

Staying awake is my problem too Grandmabatty! I’ve had a short nap - on our bed- today
A day of trotting on crutches, practicing on one, and supervising MrJ, it’s hard not being chief monitor.
I hope the two young girls are coping with their injuries.
Thoughts with those struggling, themselves or looking after others x

Grandmabatty Tue 23-Dec-25 19:23:24

It sounds like you are recovering well Jaxjacky. I'm now in bed, scrolling here after doing an hour of Spanish. I give myself permission to fall asleep early.

TillyTrotter Tue 23-Dec-25 19:43:40

Grandmabatty think of yourself as a sleek electric car. You need to recharge your battery after such a busy day.
And Jaxjacky you are doing well, slowly does it and your mobility will return.
TOYA in dear soop’s kitchen.

brook2704 Tue 23-Dec-25 20:01:26

Talking about trying to stay awake, I’ve just had a little nap on the sofa, couldn’t help it!
Your new adventure sounds good neine
I’ve enjoyed being out and about today, line dancing at the gym and then a festive coffee with my pal and exchange of gifts. A last trip to Tesco for the veggies and we’re all sorted now for the big day.
I hope you’re doing ok Jax and feeling better with your antibiotics. I don’t know - these accidents! Thank you all for your kind words about DGD, she’ll be fine once she gets used to using the crutches.

Sounds like a busy day grandmabatty!
Take care all, especially those in the quiet corner x

Redcar Tue 23-Dec-25 20:01:39

Well done jaxjacky, you are doing really well.
grandmabatty what a busy day for you, I hope you can stay awake for the evening.

blossoming well done for your walks today. I bet those bacon butties were tasty!

I managed the drive to and from the dentist for my check up. I knew I had a small filling to be done, which he did today with no anaesthetic. He was very encouraging about my walking without sticks. He knows my history of fractured vertebrae, and probably knows as much about osteoporosis as my gp. (Possibly more!)
I saw my friend with dementia this afternoon, she slept most of the time again. Apparently she sleeps a lot more now and is not eating as much.
I hope the granddaughters with broken limbs will soon feel better and will be able to enjoy Christmas, despite their discomfort.
* neine* enjoy your Christmas in your MoHo! An awning is a necessity in this country, the extra room is so useful for storage. On a campsite in Kent some years ago, we saw a king size bed complete with pink frilly bed linen in an awning attached to a caravan!! Have fun!

Have a pleasant evening everyone.

DGD not GDG tchblush

Apologies Maw I have only just realised that there are two DGDs getting about on crutches! I hope both are doing well x

Grandmabatty Tue 23-Dec-25 22:22:27

Tilly you did make me laugh. Sleek is so not me!😂 But I'm definitely recharging my sleep batteries. A merry Christmas to you x

Nannytopsy Wed 24-Dec-25 06:37:52

Morning all! I’m hoping I will be able to get a bit more sleep once I have cooled down. DD’s dog feels the cold and ended up in our bed. She was like a hot water bottle and I woke up dripping! DGS was awake but all is quiet now so hopefully everyone has gone back to sleep.
Today is a cooking day with one village card to deliver. Keep up the good work Jax - enjoy your food now your appetite is back!

cornergran Wed 24-Dec-25 11:35:41

Good morning everyone. Last minute fiddling here then we hope a relaxing afternoon.

Waiting to hear if our son will be with us tomorrow. He’s proper poorly and rightly worrying about bringing bugs to us. We’re worrying about him being unwell alone and also how he’d fare with the drive here if he isn’t really better.

I need to give myself a talking to as I know I’ll be unreasonably upset if our Christmas plans are foiled. It would be the first time we’d had Christmas at home and hosting anyone from our family in eight years. I’ve missed it. We’ve been with our son in his home since his divorce. If he can’t come we’ll be making food parcels for the neighbours tchgrin.

There are worse things I know. We’d still enjoy the day together, I’m grateful we have each other, count those blessings regularly.

I do love Christmas Eve. It feels a time to breathe out and relax. It’s a lovely sunny day here. We’ll go for a walk and enjoy it after lunch. There was some good news from a friend this morning, such a relief to know she’s less stressed and anxious. Definitely not all bad in cornerland.

Wishing you all a relaxed and contented Christmas. Special thoughts will be with those with mountains to climb whether health or other life challenges. TOYA

Usedtobeblonde Wed 24-Dec-25 11:55:35

I am all done and relaxed.
My GD’s half siblings have been round with presents, another bottle of Baileys included which makes 4 unopened in my cupboard.
I have some presents wrapped and ready but I don’t think they will be given until after Christmas now.
My youngest GS arrived yesterday to spend Christmas with his Dad and us.
It is now two years since they saw their mum, a very sad situation.
I am enjoying a coffee with a very small tot of rum and cream, oh the decadence.
Have the best day you can everyone.

GrannySomerset Wed 24-Dec-25 13:45:45

I have nothing to do apart from the veg for tomorrow’s lunch and feel very strange. DS has set off for his next Christmas visit, laden with presents, cards, mince pies and sausage rolls, and it has been lovely to have him here. In years past DH would have gone to collect his parents, the children would be decorating the tree and I would be baking like a maniac, not having finished work till the previous day. All very different, so will endeavour to find a treat or two later and not be too sad.

Yiayia4 Wed 24-Dec-25 15:15:58

Wishing you all a very happy merry Christmas, special thoughts to dear Soop and Mr Soop.
Pleased your home and healing Jax
Love to you all.❤️

kittylester Wed 24-Dec-25 15:25:50

Corner, we have a similar situation. DH and I are on our own this year and DS1 was going to his partner's house. She has flu!! He can't really come here in case he is incubating her flu, added to which, he is vegan and none of the others were catering for vegans so he is likely to be on his own. I'm sad but he seems quite happy to sit and read or watch Christmas telly eating whatever he can find.

cornergran Wed 24-Dec-25 16:06:02

We do worry about them kitty. I’ve got over advance disappointment and am firmly into worry about him being alone mode. He says today he’s feeling a bit better, he might make it. I’m not sure I’m reassured! We’ll see tomorrow. If he comes he might be issued with a mask tchgrin.

Christmas eh? I’m pleased you’re being sensible with an operation on the horizon. Best wishes to you both.

Thorntrees Wed 24-Dec-25 16:16:07

A lurker here on this lovely thread.
Just wanted to wish everyone a - Happy and Peaceful Christmas Day.
A quiet day ahead here, just the two of us but grateful to be together with all we need.
Family are all scattered but we know they are well and safe so that’s good enough for us.
Thinking of those who find this time of year difficult, those who are sad,the lonely and the poorly and those caring for others, will keep you in my prayers.x

Jaxjacky Wed 24-Dec-25 17:03:41

Hi all, family here and ducks poised for the oven.
Have a wonderful day tomorrow everyone, I do hope those struggling have a day with no issues.
Love to all xx 🥳🥂.

Grannydaisy1 Wed 24-Dec-25 17:21:58

Hi everyone. I don't post often but read regularly and feel I know you all. Wishing everyone a Happy Christmas whatever you are doing and thank you for keeping me entertained during the year

kittylester Wed 24-Dec-25 17:26:25

What I want to know, corner, is when to stop worrying. He's only 54. grin

GrannyGravy13 Wed 24-Dec-25 17:28:48

Grandmabatty Wed 24-Dec-25 18:07:44

brook2704 Wed 24-Dec-25 18:15:25

Hoping both sons are soon feeling better corner and kitty, no matter how old they are we never stop worrying do we ❤️
Tomorrow we’ll be going round to DD2s, helping with the cooking and entertaining the grandchildren. They’ve both got new bikes for Christmas although DGD won’t be able to use hers for a while because of her foot. I’ll get to see my son and his lovely partner in Edinburgh on 29th bit won’t get to see DD1 just yet, hopefully soon.
Hoping our dearest Soop is doing ok, love to all in the quiet corner x

kittylester Wed 24-Dec-25 18:25:18

And best wishes for a very happy Christmas to all in Soop's Kitchen especially our lovely founder and her family, from me
