Good morning from Shropshire.Dry and not quite so cold today.

I have a hospital appointment today. Both adult children could have used our help today and I wanted to visit mum but need to attend this appointment. Why do I feel guilty?

I am so sorry for all who are in pain. Its exhausting especially when the painkillers don’t help.Hope for improvements for all throughout the day.

Hoping FGT gets better news about Himself today🙏🏻

I like the ginger shots karma and hadn’t thought to make my own but will definitely give it a go.

Wishing everyone the best day possible🌻🦩

Good morning from a rainy W Kent. The cleaner should be here this morning and then later DH has an eye appointment to check a small hole in the retina. I shall probably do a bit of shopping whilst I wait for him. Not looking forward to driving in the dark
Best wishes

Good morning all from the Black country it looks like we had some overnight rain.
Yesterday was a lovely day for washing it dried a treat so it's now all ironed and put away.
Not sure of today's plans as yet possibly housework unless a better offer comes along.
Thoughts with FGT and himself hope the antibiotics do the trick and he can return home asap.
Have the best day you can everyone whatever your plans and may you all find a little bit of ☀️.

Good morning Mick and all GN's from a very dark, still but not so cold morning in North Yorkshire. Cant see even the outline of the tree yet. Feeling mentally a bit better than yesterday but physically not so great. So absolutely hobbling around today, cant stand up straight yet at all, plus slight earache and starting a cold. Would just be like this today, when I am due to give this talk ,or rather mostly singing event this afternoon. So hope that Bach and a decent cup of coffee will then give me the impetus to do some stretching and some yoga to at least be able to walk into the meeting in a bit better manner than at present.

As for the music, once I have got myself moving a bit, it will be getting back to vocal exercises to see how well I can sound, and the range I will be ok with and adjusting some of the keys etc. I have time to get into a fair number of scales etc and see what I am able to still do ok. That is the problem , and the pleasure, of being a singer. Wherever you are you have your instrument with you, but how you feel affects it of course, so no changing a string or reed to improve matters. I am sorry not to be at my best, but as it is today it is too late to get in touch with the organiser to change things so it will have to be do your best. Actually , I can often do better than I expect in such situations, as the adrenalin rush just before I begin anywhere means that I always have that mix of wishing I had never agreed to do whatever, but then once I begin it allows me to do more than I think I can. I have always been like this from a young child and it doesnt matter how long you are a performer the majority of people tend to be the same. That two edged sword that makes you think you are going to be sick or forget every note or word you have learnt, yet gives an edge to your performance and when you come off you are high as a kite and feel the joy of things working out well.
Even really professional musicians and actors have to cope with this all the time. It doesnt seem to alter whether you are working as a solo or with a very large choir, but on the plus side you can have a great wow buzz from a performance with no alcohol or drug input. I always remember a fantastic time when we had over 400 singers in an open courtyard and we sang various things but Verdi's great Dies Irae almost reverberated round that courtyard, the sound went through your body as we sang and it was a sensation that the choir was like a huge animal of which we were each a small part. We breathed together and sang so well that day and everyone afterwards talked of how we felt so much together and the sense of the music going right through the body. Ah well you pays your money and takes your choice, so I hope I shall never give up singing, whether it ends up me quaveringly singing on my own in my home or being in the operas and concerts that have given me such excitement and pleasure, over the years. Come to think of it music has also given me many friends over the years too.

Ah, they are just playing something from South Pacific on radio 3. Petroc was just explaining that touts buying tickets and reselling them for inflated prices is not a new thing, as when South Pacific was just about to be put on for the first time they were buying tickets for six dollars and then wanting to sell them for 500 dollars, so many people wanted to see it. The attorney general nearly closed the show before it had begun. When I was a teenager and was singing in the chorus for this, the soloist who was singing Bali Hai and Happy Talk lost her voice ,and so I stood at the side of the stage and sang whilst she mimed and moved on stage. My first big thing to sing on stage at that time and I was so intent on trying to watch the conductor and her through a small space to get the music in time and with her movements I felt fine, there was a job to do and that took your mind off any stage fright.

Ah well a little more light now I can pick the tree out against the sky. There is hardly a leaf left on it now so you can see the outline very well . A little breeze and no sign of frost anywhere, so must take the cover off the salvia this morning and see if the flowers have survived the bad weather. A little had broken off the other day and have put that into water and if I can get it to root will at least have another plant from it to take care of and plant out next year. Really miss having either a greenhouse or a cold frame here.

So this morning is going to be doing physical and vocal exercises in between ordinary housework and looking through the music. I dont think I need any shopping but can check that as I go and get it on the way back from the do this afternoon. It will all help me to keep my mind off the hospital for tomorrow anyway. When I get stressed tonight I shall make an effort to sort more from the dresser, as ripping up bits of paper is quite therapeutic.

Mick hope all goes well with your diabetic check and you get a sticker for being a good patient! GrandMattie liked your picture of your oven glove. I prefer the kind with the gloves at either end of a longish cloth, but these days they are shorter and if I have a large tin in the oven they wont reach to either end. But I find that cloth bit stops my wrists getting burnt. Grandmabatty sorry you are having a lot of pain with your feet. Reading through some of the posts this morning it seems to have been a rough night for many of us. Oh for the days when we just slept with no problem, not even realizing we were lucky to be able to do it.RoseandLilac it is going to be a nuiscance to be without power etc but I used to actually feel fine if I had my coffee a tilley light to read by and a blanket round me to keep warm. No guilt factor about jobs not getting done it was like a day off from life to me. Aldom sounds as though you are settling into your new home and now over the worst of the stress of moving. well done you, although if you are like me there will still be a few boxes waiting to be sorted out in months time. It always seems amazing after the angst and decision making about getting rid of things that when you finally move there will be one or two precious things that you still miss but many things are not missed at all and you are pleased with your pared down collection and resolve to never let it get that bad again. I have said that after every move but it never changes !

Well the time is going on and I had better make a start, so hoping everyone has a decent day, and keeps warm and safe

Grammaretto Mon 24-Nov-25 08:12:29

So sorry to hear himself has had a setback FGT. Sending hugs and thinking of you both.

Grandmabatty Mon 24-Nov-25 08:27:41

FGT I'm sorry to hear about himself not feeling great. Fingers crossed for him x

harrigran Mon 24-Nov-25 08:28:03

Good morning from a wet and windy NE, the rain was very heavy overnight and is forecast to continue for the rest of the week.
SIL visited yesterday afternoon and sorted my TVs out for me, when the BT engineer replaced my router everything had to be reset.
I asked SIL to read a text message I had received that morning because it was in regard to my mobile phone contract. We came to the conclusion that it was a scam and had I clicked on the link I would have been in trouble. It looked genuine but there was a spelling mistake that alerted us, the text said I had to click on the link to reactivate my contract. I checked my account on the computer and everything was in order.
Sorry to hear that FGT's DH is back in hospital, sending my best wishes that treatment is effective and he is home again soon.
Have the best day you can everybody.

Good morning all from Glasgow, where it is 8°C

GMB, I'm sorry you had such a dreadful night, constant pain is so debilitating, compounded by lack of sleep make it even worse.
I now dread going to bed, knowing I will be awake half the night.

I had so many plans for yesterday, mainly sorting Christmas presents, it never happened. I didn't have any energy and things got in the way.

I got a message that the bulletin had been full of errors. and one item had seriously upset someone. ( Borrheid, the bulletin on the website has been amended and now has a list of up coming funerals, you may know some of the deceased),
I messaged the P.P to say, I was taking it down from all parish media.
He apologised for forgetting to send me the final version and said, he knew I would have spotted the errors and avoided upset.
This meant, that instead of chilling, I spent the afternoon doing admin and rectifying things, that were not my fault..🤬

During the week, as a retired teacher, I applied for a Blue Light card. (You know I love a bargain) I could not convince them, that I was a retired teacher and my application kept being declined. Eventually, I got it sorted yesterday, but more time wasted, searching for proof.
There was a bonus, I now have piles of redundant paperwork to dispose of.

Today, after Mass, along with my usual duties, I have to wash down shelves in the bar, ready for Sunday's event, Also, I need to sort out floats, in preparation for our meeting tonight. Yet another busy day.
DH gets annoyed that I won't rest, however it keeps my mind occupied, when my constant pain levels are so high.

We cannot believe that our raffle for the signed Dr. Who script has raised nearly £1000 towards repaying our loan to the Diocese.
Apparently, local radio stations have picked up it on it and it has been an item on several of them this morning.
Reserved notices with a Scottish theme, are required for the tables, so I shall be designing them today. There is no end to my talents! 🤣

I am sorry to hear so many of our posters are in pain and unwell, I hope you feel better as the day goes on.

Best wishes to all those struggling and good luck with medical appointments today.
Susan, I too feel guilty, when hospital appointments clash with childminding.
On a number of occasions, we have had to take Dollie with us, when there was no-onelse to help.

P.S. We too are having ham hough soup for lunch!

Gingster Mon 24-Nov-25 08:52:38

Good morning all and it’s damp but milder here in Essex.

We had a lovely weekend in Hertfordshire at ds2’s. Lots of lovely food, wood burner and welcoming company.

The Panto (Dick Whittington) went well with gd doing her bit. She was the ghost and a rat and a village girl. A professional cast who were great.

King rat was superb.

So a lovely weekend until the journey home. I’ve never seen traffic like it! Several accidents along the way and detours through dark country roads. Poor ds2 starting feeling nauseous with a banging headache. He came in for a cuppa and set off again for home. DIL phoned to say he was back but feeling very ill. He must have picked up a bug.The rest of us seem ok.🤞.

Today I have Chimes rehearsal for our concert next week. We certainly aren’t ready but never mind we’ll do our best.

Take care all and keep well 🙏

hollysteers Mon 24-Nov-25 09:10:51

Good morning from a damp but brightening northwest coast.
Just spent yesterday nursing my cold and taking Lemsip. Although I can’t sing at the moment, I did a bit of music study for upcoming concerts. I’ll go to the music club tomorrow as I’m nearly over it, but won’t sing. I may read a couple of my own poems.

I was able to recommend a plumber and window repairer for my neighbour yesterday, so some good came out of it as well as arranging flowers for my BIL’s anniversary. Cottage pie in the evening and watched the end of the Forsytes, rather disappointing.
My sister comes from London at the end of the week and I might pull out the Xmas tree and some decs so it looks cheerful around here.
Thoughts to the FGTs and all🌺

Ashcombe Mon 24-Nov-25 09:18:33

Thank you, Grandmabatty and glammagran for your kind commments about DGD.

Gingster: my dancing DGD is similarly involved in a professional panto (Cinderella) being performed in Hanley next month. It will be the third year running in which she has appeared with this company. Such a lovely experience for them, isn’t it?

Bellasnana: we have a product here called ShakeandVac which would freshen up your rug if it’s available to you in Malta. 🤔

GrannyGravy13 Mon 24-Nov-25 09:22:10

Ashcombe I think Bellasnana has said one of her little GS’s has asthma, in which case shake-n-vac is a really big no. It has far too many allergens.

I ended up in hospital for a week after DH used it, thinking he was doing me a favour 🙀

Ashcombe Mon 24-Nov-25 09:32:38

Good point, GrannyGravy13; I had forgotten that.

I'm sorry to hear the news regarding FGT’s DH and hope he is comfortable this morning. 💐

Ladyleftfieldlover Mon 24-Nov-25 09:39:27

Morning all from West Oxfordshire. I didn’t wake up until 8.30 am!

Yesterday was mainly spent making the Christmas pudding and a batch of honey ice-cream. I used OH’s honey.

I am starting a bland diet today in preparation for Wednesday’s colonoscopy.

The usual Waitrose shop and hopefully our cleaner is coming.

I do hope the FGT2S have had a good night and are reassured.🪻

Ziplok Mon 24-Nov-25 09:42:15

Good morning
Another cold, drizzly day here. It looks set in for the morning, at least.
Hope all goes well on Wednesday Llfl.

Susan56 Mon 24-Nov-25 11:15:24

Hope GrannySomerset is ok and I have just missed her posts?

GrannySomerset Mon 24-Nov-25 11:20:37

Finally managed to get back on! Don’t know why the site keeps booting me off but better late than never not at all. Thinking of the FGTs and hoping for good news.

Susan56 Mon 24-Nov-25 12:04:30

Good to see you GrannySomerset👋🏻
