Good morning from a dry, cooler Bristol.
Yesterday was horrible, today is supposed to be colder and drier. I hope so as I’m planning on going to town.
I had some fantastic news yesterday afternoon. I called my SiL to find out what sort of thing I could put in DD’s stocking - each family member is allocated one person’s stocking. En passant he mentioned that has been offered a job! To his surprise, I burst into tears of joy.
Having been unspeakably unhappy in his last job, he resigned and has been out of work since January. Since then he has applied for a number of jobs, had interviews but not landed anything. This was wonderful.
I was bursting to tell someone, so called DS. He’s very fond of his BiL and was pleased for him. He was also pleased to hear from me. The reason? Guilt! He calls me about once every 6 weeks or so; I never complain- that’s how he is.
The cause of his guilt was that he was chatting to a colleague whose younger son he’s teaching. The elder has gone to uni and his contact with her is very slight, which was why she complained. Perhaps, DS will call more often? Hope so.
Today, I’m getting fancy stocking fillers for DD, fabric, etc.
I’ve got a final meeting for a church course I had to take as I’m on the PCC. TBH, it a CWoT, but hey…
MD,please take it easy. I hope the mountain is levelled for those in sorrow, distress or pain.

Good morning from Lancashire. The weather seems calmer this morning, so it might be safe to venture into town. I don't need much but it is necessary to get out at least once a week. There is another new shop opening soon so that will be worth investigating. It's a pet shop and is in a more convenient place than Pets at Home.

Good morning from s somerset, bright with rain today

Lovely day yesterday, chatting all day, lovely food and oh so tired at home during the evening. Early bed and a full satisfying sleep all night, which has set me up for today

Photo is of my Christmas corner, I have ordered two more porcelain ornaments and that is my final total. It was so easy to set up this year and I am glad I did it

I have definite plans for today, sewing, I need some more warm winter clothing. I have been stash diving and will be making a warm top called toaster 1.

Have a good day

Good morning from Malta where a dry day is forecast with a high of 21°C.

You were right, Ashcombe, I had worried for nothing about taking the car to have the tyres changed! The two brothers who own the tyre place could not have been nicer and I was fascinated watching the process.

I then took Milo for a nice walk which we both enjoyed. It was so hot though and I realised I should have worn cooler clothes.

DD3 and the boys arrived late ish to collect Milo as the boys had been to their swimming lesson. They were in very high spirits, doing daft things like licking the tv then going into paroxysms of laughter. I was not amused, especially as I have run out of Prosecco so couldn’t even have my reward after they’d left!😂

Today I have my nails but might pop to Lidl this morning before I go as I need a few bits and pieces.

Great news for your son-in-law and family grandMattie. It is always a relief when things work out.

Wishing a good day to all.☀️

grandMattie Tue 02-Dec-25 06:10:46

Aren’t children, especially boys, silly at that age, bellas?
Glad the tyre saga was simple.
Please send a photo of your nails. Will you have them Christmas themed? Trees? Baubles? Angels? 😆

Good morning, Michael and all GNs from still dark South Yorkshire where we are promised a dry day. Yesterday was wet all day but not the sort of rain that would put one off going out.

The dentist gave me a clean bill of health yesterday morning and then I drove straight to our local shopping mall, found there wasn’t a single parking space to be had, so came home and went back later on the bus. Bought a sweater and some Christmas cards. I am an also-ran when it comes to shopping😕!

School this afternoon and hopefully I will be able to walk there and back. I’m not getting enough exercise lately and, like Mick, I’m not drinking enough water. Must try harder.

Have the best day you can, folks.

Good morning Mick and all GN's on a very dark, but still morning , Havent looked out but very cold and hoping for a bit drier day today,

Yesterday was a pig of a day, where I seemed to have obstacles put in my way whatever I did, and despite saying White Rabbits, I did not have a good start to the day. Had a poor nights sleep and had been worrying about a friend who had phoned and told me they had had a fall . Trying to decide whether it would be better for me to go and see what I could do, or let them rest and go when they asked etc. Anyway a poor night and consequently it took me ages to get my act together. I had wanted to be out and about early but no such luck. Really missing my buggy, which would have been much quicker to go down the town on. So stuck in traffic, an idiot had abandoned rather than park their car so that it actually stuck out into the road and blocked part of the road near a traffic light, causing much hassle to the rest of us.
2 blue light ambulance had to get through and the total hassle was very bad. But after much messing about I did what I needed to do and set off to see my friend. Of course it was more haste less speed, and even when I was getting well on the way and had calmed down a bit I then came round a corner to see a large breakdown truck and a big construction machine being very slowly loaded onto it. It was the stupidist place to load up on a slight bend and no where for anyone to go, so assume that was where it had actually broken down, and of course it took for ages. My back was very painful and I could not relax and anyway finally got there much the worse for wear. Anyway things calmed down after that, and we were able to catch up on news and see how things were. In amongst all the hassle I had checked up about my MOT and had had to organise that , but I am lucky that the garage I use are very helpful and they are going to come and pick the car up from my home. My problem is that having no buggy at the moment, I couldnt organise anything using that, and the garage is not in the middle of the town so couldnt walk from them either, so looked like having to get a taxi, and of course they wanted the car in and trying to get a taxi during school times is always difficult and at this time of the year even worse. So I am grateful that they will pick the car up and save me much hassle. Fingers crossed that it passes ok. I keep getting check tyre pressure coming up, but have checked all the tyres and there is no problem with them. It might be because of things like the sleeping policemen that triggers a message but very annoying. Of course these days you can no longer sort it yourself as it is all on computer and has to be done by the garage etc!! Well anyway, just fingers crossed that there is no major problems with the car and they can check it all ok and I wil then feel I am ready for any trips I need to make over the holiday time. So I am glad to be rid of yesterday, as to cap it all I had to reach down to a plug and pulled my back so have had to be very careful moving aboutand much oohing and aahing. Dont know why I do it, no one to hear me but its just involuntary I think.

I dont plan to do a great deal today, well will avoid going into town if possible, as am stuck with the car now and with my back the way it is, no chance of walking far to shops. I have done a bit more sorting of paperwork = mostly whilst trying to find my MOT certificate which was in vain, but of course as the garage had done it last year they had the information to hand, - should have thought about that earlier and saved myself a load of hassle! When I couldnt sleep I have at least been through the calendar for december and as far as I can see , have loaded up all the various events from doctors appointments to carol singing in a village, so it looks quite a full month. Shant get to all of them of course, but at least all the information is there and hopefully I wont miss something that matters to me. My star occasion is on the 13th december in Saltburn as they have this lovely Ice sculpture trail, which was very enjoyable on previous years so that is going to be top of my list, and fingers crossed that I am in a fit state to go to it. So today it will be plod along, see what I can manage, and I might even get round to doing some ironing as the basket is already beginning to fill up.

Mick , As a diabetic too, your comments ring true to me! I use canderel which I find is ok for putting on boring weetabix, trying to have a minimum amount of milk. I have never liked honey, always found it too sweet , but am tempted by things like crisps and try to keep my biscuit consumption down by not having any at home, but allowing myself to have a biscuit with my coffee at things like the whist drive (what wild abandon my wednesdays are , playing cards and eating either a ginger or shortbread biscuit!) but I am also with you about the resolve to drink more water. I do try to drink enough , but sometimes I realize I havent had much to drink outside meal times. Also I was tending not to drink much in the evening, trying not to have to get out of bed in the night for the loo, but now need to accept that thatis likely to happen whateveer I do, so I need to build in a drink of water into the pattern of the day to ensure I take enough. Glad that you are otherwise fine and hope you enjoy your day. GrandMattie What a lovely thing to hear about your SiL;s new job. It will make your christmas even happier with the hopes that this leads on to a new year of better prospects and more financial stability . That should mean that everyone can relax and enjoy the holiday , with that better prospect in sight. Hope your DS takes on the lesson learnt from the colleague and starts to build a better pattern of keeping in touch. I am so glad for you to have good news going into christmas. You do so much for your family and church , and the church really does not acknowledge the treasure they have in you, so I think their new year resolution should be , not to take for granted all the volunteers who do so much , not just for the big occasion but constantly throughout the year. I only wish I lived a bit nearer and could come and try out some of your delicious things you bake. It has been cheering to read both of your posts this early morning, and now time to get the kettle on and ready for my mornings sweetener of Bach before 7. I will come back later to read more posts but wish everyone a good day today and take care of yourselves

Good morning from a very dark S E Essex.

The Imp crept in at 6am, he had the fidgets!

Have given in (as normal) and he is in the playroom playing with the dolls house.

Today I intend to crack on with gift wrapping. I always find that December days co e and go so quickly.

Bellasnana little boys and silliness, yep we are boy heavy in our family and they definitely go through a silly phase.

Grandmabatty Tue 02-Dec-25 06:49:34

Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 6° and drizzle. GrandMattie that is such good news about your Dsil. I join with you all who don't drink enough water. I felt distinctly unwell yesterday and realised I was dehydrated. Bellasnana I'm glad the car was sorted.
Yesterday I dropped off the boys and came home to make a pot of soup. Job done, I tidied up and had a lie down. My ds messaged to say he was coming over with dgs2s birthday present and would stay for dinner. Later I worked in the school library for a couple of hours, picked up the boys and headed home. Dgs2 was very happy with his soup. Dgs1 ate continuously until I put the brakes on. I agree with you about small boys. They can be very silly. My two have taken up wrestling each other like puppies. It drives me mad! Anyway ds duly arrived, handed over the gift and dgs2 was very pleased with it. Dd picked them up and Ds went to the local chippy for dinner. He's wanted to try it for a while as it has a really good plant based menu.
Today will be a quiet one after I drop off the boys. The perennial tidying up of the kitchen and maybe a nap. Have a good day all.

Good morning from a dark and damp Black Country.

Enjoyable evening at Cycling Clubs quiz night. Our team actually won! So prize of Celebrations for me and box of chocolate biscuits for other half.

Great news for your SIL gM

Over to Mums today to take her food shopping.

Laptop has gone in for repair, so typing this on phone which is very fiddly!

So wishing you all the best day possible.

monk08 Tue 02-Dec-25 07:01:56

Good morning all from the Black country still dark out but at least its dry.
Greyduster I also had a clean bill of health off the dentist.
I'm waiting on the eye results but those doing all the checks were happy just need the consultant to agree, have been told results should be back in a couple of weeks.
DH has bloods this morning then we shall see where the day takes us.
Good news regarding your SiL and nice you were able to speak your son grandMattie
Enjoy your day everyone whatever your plans and may you all find a little bit of ☀️.

Ashcombe Tue 02-Dec-25 07:02:49

Good morning from a dry Torbay following a very wet and windy one yesterday.

One of my lovely neighbours turned up on my doorstep with a full meal for me in the early evening so I have that to look forward to tonight. It was well timed as she knows I’m out at rehearsals every night this week. Last night did not go terribly well as the very experienced director who had come in to give us the once over had plenty of criticisms mainly of the crowd scenes. Our director has not given the attention to detail that’s necessary and I’m well aware the crowd scenes were under rehearsed. I doubt if she’ll be allowed to direct for Toads again or that she will want to.

Props this morning. This afternoon, I’m leading a sing song of Christmas music for a group at my church called Teatimers who meet once a month. It’s run by the church, but open to any who wish to attend.

What a relief to know your SIL has a job, grandMattie! The perfect Christmas present!
I hope the tyre experience will help you feel better about future times when your car needs attention, Bellasnana.

A good day to all. 🦩💐🦩🥰🦩

RosesandLilac Tue 02-Dec-25 07:11:37

Good morning from south Glos where it’s a wet start to Tuesday on top of yesterday’s rain so there will be some massive puddles between here and the village. The main road down into the valley was closed because of several fallen trees overnight, there’s one particularly stretch where no one seems to be responsible for maintaining the woods either side.
I went for a wander around the shops yesterday morning, I just needed to get out for a bit. I did buy a few bits and did a small grocery shop for fresh produce. It was heaving in the supermarket, I couldn’t understand why so busy on a Monday morning at 9.
Today I have an online art class at 10, looking forward to that, then just the usual day.
I hope today goes well for you all 🌹

cornergran Tue 02-Dec-25 07:15:05

Morning Mick, morning All. We’re forecast just a few showers It’s very soggy out there.

Two positives yesterday. My watch was successfully repaired and our sofa was collected by the charity drivers. Very efficient, if seemingly unable to wipe their feet. The mud vacuumed from the carpet eventually. The room looks very odd now, the replacement sofa should be here within a week 🤞.

Routine morning with a grocery delivery and dust to remove. Hoping to hear from the computer wizard, apparently ours is still ‘odd’, now why am I not surprised.

Hope Tuesday is kind to us all.

Redcar Tue 02-Dec-25 07:17:23

Good morning everyone from mid Essex. It’s 8 degrees outside and the ground is still wet. Yesterday was awful, heavy rain and wind all day and evening. Today is supposed to be drier with showers later.
Posted the Australian Christmas cards, got wet during the walk to the post office. I started to clear a space in the lounge for the Christmas tree, which meant clearing space in the dining room for displaced stuff from the lounge. I have too much of everything and need to have a major declutter.

I’ll carry on clearing a space, but my back won’t let me move any furniture, so DD2 will do that when she next calls in.

bellasnana well done for getting your car tyres sorted out.
I hope those on holiday are enjoying some sunshine and warmth and that those who are suffering in any way find some relief and comfort.

Have the best day possible everyone, may we all find some 🌞

ginny Tue 02-Dec-25 07:32:39

Good morning. A bright morning forecast but cloudy and hopefully no rain later.
We are taking DHs mum out for lunch at an Emporium today. The food is good and it is a lovely place to wander around. I hope to find some new tree baubles amongst other things.
Picture is of a decorated bottle with lights that I made, a bit safer than a candle.
Thoughts with those who are poorly or troubled and a hope today is kind to you all.

luluaugust Tue 02-Dec-25 07:37:35

Good morning from a dry W Kent. Off to U3A art group this morning usually a chatty session. Yesterday’s U3A group lunch was very sociable but the food was awful. Rumours the pub will be closing but wouldn’t be surprised if
It does
Best wishes

brook2704 Tue 02-Dec-25 07:39:48

Good morning everyone from Inverness where it’s still dark and feels cold, it’s only about 3°
So please for your son in law gMattie what lovely news
We arrived home from Dd1s safely yesterday evening, the flight was all on time without any problems. We’d spent part of yesterday sightseeing in London which was good but the weather was awful. We walked alongside the Thames, saw the London Eye, Big Ben, Westminster Abbey etc. all looking beautiful but very wet and grey. Today something complex different as I’m going to a Christmas party night and an overnight stay with a lot of the line dancing ladies from the gym. It’s a few miles down the road in Carrbridge so my pal is picking me up later
Thinking of everyone with worries and struggles, hope today is gentle and take care all whatever the day brings 💐

Jaxjacky Tue 02-Dec-25 07:43:42

Morning from a damp S Hants, but it’s not raining, yesterday we had more than enough, such a dark day, the voluntary phone wasn’t overly busy.
We were rubbish at quiz, but enjoyed the evening, it gets us out and is very sociable, granddaughter who works in the pub p/t now has keys to open up, party!
What good news gMattie and a relief. I hope pantglas is enjoying her holiday, bet it’s not raining there.
MrJ will be in the loft later for decorations and wrapping paper.
Have the best day you can all.
