Just heard Stanley Baxter has passed away. I feel so sad, he was a huge talent, somewhat overlooked in recent years. His shows on the BBC were extremely popular, in the same way that Morecambe and Wise were.
Hope the beeb show some of his recorded shows, in honour of his passing.
I believe he was a recluse in recent years, but was never one for all the shmaltz that followed some celebrities around. R.I.P.

from what BBC news said, he was in a home (not a recluse) for the past years.

No he live alone for the last 20 years refusing to go out in case anyone recognised him as this sad old man . He was tormented all his life by his sexuality , He was terrified it would become public knowledge and sadly it was known and nobody bothered. He only married to hiswife as a smokescreen then cried on his honeymoon. His wife killed herself at the second attempt.

Absolutely loved this brilliant man. Sorry to hear of the sadnesses in his life, but what joy he brought!

As I read it he tried to explain before he married that it might not be a good idea and why.
Whereupon the lady climbed out onto a high ledge and the only way he could persuade her to come inside was to promise to marry her.
She was always mentally fragile. They separated but he continued to support her financially and emotionally. He blamed himself for her demise at her own hand.
I doubt anyone could have made her happy. She had big problems before he married her but she deluded herself that with him all would be perfect.
Sad to think he was coping with such difficulties while entertaining us all so well.
