grandMattie Sat 13-Dec-25 05:32:55

Good morning. Dark and dry too here in Bristol.
I must go to the little hardware shop to get some Stanley knife blades, and onions for onion soup. Must be one of my faves, despite taking ages to brown and caramelise.
Coffee in church, then I’m minded to make some gingerbread men/biscuits. If I make them now,I’ll be able to ice them.
I might go to DD’s Christingle this afternoon rather than my church’s tomorrow. I don’t want to bother her, so shall try to sneak in and out. At least, that’s my plan, if I go.
May your weekend bring peace, absence of pain and sorrow, and contentment to you all.

Good morning Mick and followers, it’s frosty here on the hillside in south Glos, the pavement is looking wet so I don’t know if it slippery too, I hope not.
I’ve been awake for a couple of hours, I had hoped to go back to sleep but that’s not happening 🙄
I have an all day zoom art session today, I think I have everything ready, so looking forward to it. I need to walk the dogs first thing and I have told DH he’s in charge of getting lunch - sausages and mash so nothing difficult.
Yesterday I had a lovely morning at art group, lots of tea and chatting, not a lot of painting!
Tomorrow I want to sort out some decorations, I wasn’t going to bother but because DS and family are coming next weekend I need to make a bit of an effort. I have ordered some bits online.
Wishing you all a peaceful day 🌹

Jaxjacky Sat 13-Dec-25 05:50:17

Morning, dark in Southampton where I am second on the list for my THR.
Not the best night, but to be expected.
I’ll catch up later.

Bellasnana Sat 13-Dec-25 06:18:31

Good morning from Malta where the day is expected to be a dry one with a high of 18°C.

Hope all goes well Jax🙏🏻

grandMattie that’s rather sad to think you need to sneak in and out of your DD’s service. I can’t imagine you would bother her, she is so lucky to have a mother like you.💐

I haven’t any plans today other than a bit of housework but am hoping to see the boys if their social calendar allows!

Wishing you all a good day ☀️

grandMattie Sat 13-Dec-25 06:27:06

bellas, if I don’t sneak in and out of the service, she/they will feel an obligation to ask me to dinner or take me home, or both. They are so very, very busy atm, that I really don’t want to hurt their feelings or bother them.
Anyway, as you know, my relationship with her is rather fragile and I don’t want to do anything to rock the boat.
I have decided to go to the one here in the end…

Good morning from s somerset, sunny today

Jaxjacky all the very best for today

A good day yesterday, did no knitting, was too busy doing other stuff, including cutting a complicated pattern layout from AO printed pattern sheets. 14 different sizes and I had to hunt for the size I wanted amongst all those lines, A dress this time, I need these projects at this time of year. Anyway I don`t have time to sew during the allotment season. Summer dress version first as a toile

I made an almond cake, full of protein, I make one every couple of weeks, it freezes well.

By bedtime, my back was aching with standing up all day, so I went on my inverter, blimey I was almost too stiff to unfold myself from securing my feet it to laying back but I slowly slowly did it and my discs and muscles did release through gravity stretching me. Followed by a good nights sleep

Today I have to walk to the shops to get an essential item for my next lactobacillus ferment. Then a few hours on the allotment

Have a good day

Morning Mick, morning All. It feels colder this morning, our corner of Somerset is forecast a dry day.

A volunteer session, a drive to take the new machine to the computer wizard and a trip to town filled the day yesterday.

This morning there are a number of batteries to change in Christmas decorations before we brave a supermarket to get last minute lunch things for tomorrow when 80% of the family will be here. I’ll catch up with some admin this afternoon, expect Mr C will snooze.

Hope Saturday is kind to us all.

cornergran Sat 13-Dec-25 06:42:05

Good luck today jax. Soon be over. X

WhiteSwan63 Sat 13-Dec-25 06:56:02

Good Morning everyone from a dark east coast. I think it’s going to be a dry day today.
I do post sometimes but not too often.

Today I am having lunch with DD and DGD in town. My husband is dropping us off so we can enjoy a glass of wine together. We are then walking to the cinema to watch Wicked.
He is looking after DGD who is only 3 until they pick us up again. She is a little delight so he’s thinking of things they can do for a few hours and I think McDonald’s features.

Yesterday I was finishing off some Christmas shopping at a local shopping centre and watching a group of young adults with disabilities and autism singing and dancing. I had tears of joy actually i was a blubbing mess. I was hoping that one day my autistic grandson could be as happy as that in the future as we don’t know what the future holds for him. They really lifted my heart.
My Christmas shopping list is getting ticked off finally. I feel at last it all coming together.
I spent some time with my mum as well yesterday. She was very tired as she’s supposed to be on permanent iron but she’s so bad at taking them. It’s very intermittent. I explain the importance but she just says ‘I’m ok’ last weekend I was with my dad and he’s getting frailer now but I’m thankful to still have my parents.

Wishing everyone an enjoyable and safe Saturday bringing sparks of joy. 🎄

EkwaNimitee Sat 13-Dec-25 07:22:56

Good morning Mick and everyone from dark but dry Carlisle. It must be at least a partly clear sky as I can see stars but fortunately, the car windscreen appears not to be frosted over. I find I have to go back into town again after yesterday's foray to collect a prescription, another one is ready. When I'd asked if they had it, they hadn't but texted me at lunchtime to say it was! I do need to get the papers but that was a walk not a drive.

The rest of today...a long phone chat with my sister, a sort out of clothes for the charity shop, puzzling and reading.

And wishing you all a pleasant day.

Ashcombe Sat 13-Dec-25 07:26:33

Good morning from a very chilly Torbay but we are promised Sunshine later.

I hope your THR goes well, Jaxjacky and you are soon mobile again.

A nearly full house last night enjoyed our performance and we have two to go through today with a matinee at 2:30. We are planning to have a bring and share tea before the evening performance. Both of them are nearly fully booked. We have been amazed by how popular the show has proved to be but I guess a lot of people like to come and see something they know. I believe the film of It's A Wonderful Life will be shown on the Sunday before Christmas.

Wishing you all a good day, whatever you’re planning. ⭐️🎄🎁🧑🏻‍🎄⭐️

Ashcombe Sat 13-Dec-25 07:27:59

Not sure why sunshine was capitalised, nor why I failed to notice when I previewed it. I must be tired!!

Redcar Sat 13-Dec-25 07:33:12

Good morning everyone from mid Essex, it’s quite cold out but no frost. A dry cool day forecast for today.
Yesterday’s lunchtime bingo went well, several new faces there. A tasty lunch, glass of Buck’s Fizz and a small win for me, lots of laughs with friends too. Then I collected my meds from the pharmacy and spent the rest of the afternoon trying to rearrange the delivery of a tracked letter with Royal Mail! Hopefully I’ll collect it on Monday from the local post office.

I have more tracked mail being delivered today 🤞so need to stay in all day or until it arrives.

jaxjacky I hope your operation goes well this morning and that you’ll soon be out and about again.

whiteswan good to see you posting. Enjoy lunch with your DD and DGD, I hope you enjoy Wicked, my DD2 is taking her 7 year old DD and her cousin to see it this afternoon, I think her DH is looking after the 3 year old!

madeleine I hope you now have your new buggy and are able to get to the ice sculptures today.

Thinking of all those with problems and hoping for some solutions today.

Have a good day everyone!

Susan56 Sat 13-Dec-25 07:40:21

Good morning from Shropshire.A day of sunshine forecast.

I have found out this week that as a result of my illness over the summer I now have a problem with my heart.I feel scared. The dr I spoke to was very reassuring so just something else to learn to live with.

Tonight we are going to watch DGD dancing in the pantomime

Wishing you all the best today Jaxjacky.

Karma I was so pleased to read that your son in law has a new job.

Thinking of all struggling and wishing everyone the best day possible🦩🌻🎅🏼🎄

RosieandherMaw Sat 13-Dec-25 07:41:37

Brrrr!
Cold, dark and foggy here in N Bucks! Good morning all..
Nice to see you Whiteswan flowers I found your post very moving.
Today I am going to do the jobs I’ve been putting off all week
1 sort out, tidy and rationalise the fridge and freezers
2 wrap remaining presents bought (2 to find I might have to have recourse to the long river company)
3 clear laundry and ironing, and here maybe a cheesy Hallmark Christmas film will help
I must also somehow speak to the DD’s, we seem to communicate by WhatsApp these days and find out how GD is and how she is coping with her crutches
It’s not a day for going out apart from walking Rosie but a hunkering down sort of day😶‍🌫️🥶
Sending kind thoughts to all in pain, distress or up to their ears in prep, and especially MD and of course Jaxjacky - what a time for a THR - Gute Besserung.

baubles Sat 13-Dec-25 07:45:46

Good morning from South Lanarkshire. It’s still dark here but no rain as yet.

All the best for your THR Jaxjacky.

Not much happening today in Baubles Towers, I may or may not start gift wrapping accompanied by a Christmas film. I had a bit of a start in the Post Office the other day, the price of stamps is shocking but I really don’t want to stop sending cards. Next year I must start buying a few every month to spread the cost.

Hoping everyone has as good a day as possible.

Marydoll Sat 13-Dec-25 07:48:47

Good morning all from a damp Glasgow, where it is 7 °C.

GM, I felt quite sad, reading your post. I can understand where you are coming from, not wanting to be a burden, but sneaking in, No!

Yesterday was a truly awful day, nothing went right. I was still too unwell to drive, so DH was my chauffeur.
*I got my blood appointment time wrong and couldn't be seen
* I was kindly given a new appointment, right bang in the middle of rush hour poor DH.
* I lost my credit card, somewhere between Morrisons and home. It had not been handed in. (I am losing the feeling in my fingertips and keep dropping things, without realising it.)
* I had to cancel my card and order a new one.)
* I thought I had bought a bag of SR flour, it turned out to be a large bag of sugar.
*My experimental Turkish kebab, was too hot to eat🔥.
* Our outside Christmas tree died. 😪
*} found the missing receipt to return something, but the card it was on, has been cancelled.😞

In a few weeks, I have turned into a vulnerable, old woman. Those damned steroids have badly affected my concentration. I am now experiencing withdrawal symptoms and an RA flare up, which always happens. The chest infection is still doing its worst and my emotions are extremely fragile.
DD unintentionally upset me by saying, that I cannot go out alone.
I know that she and DH are concerned, but it is so hard to accept.

To balance my negative post, here are some positives.

* I managed to obtain the tiny watch battery for my favourite New York watch, for the princely sum of £3. The jeweller wanted £20.
*I repaired my broken ROX bracelet.
* I received a loving video message from Babydoll
*The serial dragon receptionist was so kind, when she saw how unwell and upset I was and went out of her way to secure a new appointment a few hours later.
* The health care assistant, taking my bloods, urged me not to worry about the missed appointment.
* I learned a new skill, when working on the parish website. I was struggling to work out how to do it. I have impressed myself.
*DH has bought a new outside tree. I have appearances to keep up.😉
* I have a morning off. The parish bulletin was proof read yesterday.🎉
* DH has just brought a cuppa and two hot water bottles. Not once did he criticise me for losing the credit card. His tongue must be bleeding from biting it.😂

On reflection, life is not so bad after all!

This morning, I plan to write the neighbours' cards and bake some biscuits.
I suspect DD will pop in to check that I am still alive to lecture me on what I can or cannot do!

It is the funeral of a parishioner today, she was 102 years old. Her son is a well known figure in Scotland. His research on the impact of poverty on the development of the brain in toddlers, inspired me to write my thesis for my Masters degree.
My plan is to pop in and out of the Livestream to see the Requiem Mass.

Now, I will go back and read of all the busyness. Good luck with today's doings and medical procedures.
Sar, I hope your granddaughter is improving.💐

Have a good day folks.

GrannyIvy Sat 13-Dec-25 07:56:37

Good morning from where it feels a very chilly Cambridgeshire.

Well the Christmas tree and decorations are up it has seemed to take all week around doing other things.

I collected dgs2 from school yesterday afternoon and then he realised he had left a carrier bag with his football kit in at school and his football boots would be needed this weekend so back we went fighting through traffic. He looked so tired and whitefaced and it took forever to get home. This flu virus has hit both my dgc hard it is the bug that keeps giving!

I’m a bit in limbo land today as not sure if I’m needed to help with dgc or not so will plan a morning pottering at home and a trip to the garden centre this afternoon.

Good luck Jax I’m guessing THR is total hip replacement so hope all goes well.

Happy Saturday to all

ginny Sat 13-Dec-25 08:02:35

Good morning from N.Bucks.
A small local food shop this morning and a few household chores.
DH has some friends coming round to help move our suite out and transport it to DD2 and take her old one away.
Just after lunch DGSs 2 &3 will arrive for a Christmas craft afternoon .
We’ll be tired this evening and not very co in the lounge as our new suite doesn’t arrive until Tuesday.
Hope your THR. goes well Jaxjacky and thoughts with other who are poorly or troubled. A good day wished for all.

brook2704 Sat 13-Dec-25 08:08:13

Good morning everyone from Inverness where it’s still dark and looks wet
Hoping all goes well for you today Jax ❤️
A lovely day yesterday, I really enjoyed the Christmas meal out and it was good to see old friends and hear their news. I’ve not heard yet from DD2 but I hope DGDs sleepover went well
I’m late waking up today I think all the Christmas prep and events out are catching up on me and the dark mornings don’t help. Today I’m off to the hairdressers first thing for a cut and colour so the pampering will be most welcome
Thinking of everyone with worries and struggles, hope today is gentle and take care all whatever the day brings 💐

Greyduster Sat 13-Dec-25 08:09:18

Good morning, Michael and all GNs from South Yorkshire where the sun is just starting to put in an appearance. We are set for a dry day. I slept fitfully last night, but there’s no rush to get up for anything.

I had a marathon phone conversation with one of my oldest friends last night, putting the world to rights and catching up with family news. She has two lovely granddaughters and the tales of her efforts to negotiate her way through their teenage years are hilarious. She is the mother of boys, and girls have been a total revelation to her!

Yesterday afternoon was my last session at school until after Christmas. I didn’t get a lot done as the children were distracted and the place was rather in turmoil with last minute preparations for the Christmas play.

Today I will finish decorating the tree and but a few other things out but I am not going over the top this year. I will also bottle my sloe gin. It is a lovely rich colour so should be good this year.

Jax hope your op goes well. You’ll be surprised how soon you’re on your feet and raring to go again!

Have the best day you can folks.

monk08 Sat 13-Dec-25 08:14:59

Good morning all from a dry Black country.
Trip into town to get some PJs for the boys and a few other bits from boots.
Over to friends later.
Jaxjacky hope all goes well.
Will catch up with everybody's happenings later usual full English calling.
Enjoy your day everyone whatever your plans and may you all find a little bit of ☀️.

Grandmabatty Sat 13-Dec-25 08:15:28

Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 6° and dry. Jaxjacky all the best for your operation today. Marydoll my sympathy. It's very hard to be reliant on others when you are used to being so independent. Susan I'm sorry to hear about your heart problems. 💐
Yesterday I did a bit in the school library then tried to post my Christmas cards but there was no parking spaces left at the Post Office at all so I headed home in high dudgeon. Once home, I emptied and loaded the dishwasher and hoovered and felt better for tidying up. On my way out to afternoon tea, I managed to post the cards then. Afternoon tea was lovely. The food was plentiful and the company good. Lots of chat. I had driven there and back and my leg coped with the driving, but I suffered for it last night with nerve pain.
After a bad night, I'm heading to the local garden centre later for breakfast with another two friends. I'm very fortunate to have nice people in my life. I'll take their Christmas cards and bulbs in a pot for them. We no longer exchange gifts but donate to our food bank instead, however bulbs in a pot don't count! After that, I'll need to nip to Aldi as I've run out of bread and milk then home to start wrapping the presents. I'll probably do a few, then rest and repeat. I hope Madeleine got her new yellow peril and everything works fine. Have a good day all.

Grammaretto Sat 13-Dec-25 08:21:27

Good morning all from the Scottish Borders where it's clear but cold.

Yesterday was very pleasant. My shop stint was fine with enough time to drink a coffee and chat to customers.
One man was delighted to find he could order bread in advance as it's run out by the time he shops. the bread comes from the Company Bakery in Musselburgh FYI

A past helper, now in Edinburgh came for lunch just in time to help my current Helper to bring 2 heavy pieces of furniture down from the attic and help squeeze them into a couple of cars. I sold them both on gumtree.

Then I made a huge kedgeree to feed us all. My friend came for supper and we watched a film. I fell asleep infront of the fire.

Not much planned today apart from writing cards.

Poor you Marydoll and how brave you are and how cheerful despite all the odds!

I hope you all have a great weekend 😊
