For anyone seriously fed up with the weather…

Whereas we’ve had some really nice days - today was one. They almost seem to alternate- sunny but cold, milder and wet.
Well it is Winter.

Yep- a few very sunny blue sky days, today included. Other days grey, cold and dark but it is winter after all... and a long way to go.

And my DS and family in the States and my other ds who is visiting them, are currently holed up at home while it snows heavily and the thermometer has plunged to minus 19degC. 🥶 He said the heating is struggling to cope this evening.

I daresay Christmas is celebrated to cheer us up during these dark days.

yesterday was so sunny and mild, we spent it at the allotment and took tea and biscuits to sit out in the sun up there.

Can’t complain here though it has been cooler than usual in this part of Australia. Only had one swim.

Had some lovely bright days, I get out whatever the weather, unless its very extreme.

The weather has been dreadful in mid Wales for weeks now, we had 60% above average rainfall in November, and unless there is a dramatic improvement December will be the same. We’ve had a couple of sunny days, but for me that does not compensate for the endless rain and gloom. Roll on March.

We are still waiting for winter here in Malta. The weather has been lovely on the whole and we actually could do with some rain.

Yikes to that Swedish weather!!!

I do like spring weather - the spring weather I'm used to, followed by the summer weather I'm used to (yep...Southerner here).

One of the things I found puzzling for some time when I moved from Devon to West Wales was the number of people who'd make a comment saying "Nice weather isnt it" or words to that effect when passing me in the street. Cue for me probably looking puzzled and looking up at the sky wondering why they were saying that to me when it wasn't at all. I clicked eventually that their definition of nice weather is different to mine. In Wales they tend to say "Nice weather!" just because it's not raining or windy - whereas a Southerner like me will only say it's nice weather if it actually IS nice weather (ie blue skies/sunny/calm/warm - as well as not raining).

Followed by the way I evaluate the sturdiness (or otherwise) of fences when they get put up here - as I know there's a good chance a normal standard fence will take about 2 years before it's pretty much matchwood - ie from the wind here. Yep...I have a fence up here at one point - but I took the advice of the local workman who looked at me in astonishment when I said what I had decided on and informed me it wouldnt last long here - cue for a change of plans and I bought a much sturdier one differently done and it's still fine...

We don’t seem to have had two days the same up here in Durham recently. There’s been heavy overnight frosts, lashing rain, gale force winds and temperatures bobbing around freezing. Then, there’s been pleasantly mild, sunny days, one with a spectacular sunrise, but they’re few and far between.
Another couple of weeks and the days will lengthen, hopefully without any snow!

The light night are coming. I’m also sick of this up and down weather. I suffer from SAD and these dark wet days don’t help.

Even within one day it can be bright and sunny one minute and dark and lashing with rain the next not to mention the wind.

Heavy rain here in mid-Scotland today but the wind has abated. We measure wind by how many pegs you’d need to keep your washing on the line. Last week we had a three-pegger day, it was so windy!

It’s lovely here at the moment but changeable, not at all bad for December. Remember we had a drought over most of England from March until October and river levels are still very low. We need months and months of rain.

I don't mind the miserable weather really. It makes being inside feel very cosy

I am pleased with the current rainfall as I don't need to water my window boxes. They have a small heather and pansies at the moment, with lots of spring bulbs underneath, so they ought to be fine until the summer planting.

At least our hosepipe ban is now lifted🤣

…I was just speaking to a Swedish friend, who told me that according to their paper today, during the whole of December so far they’ve had ONE hour of sun in Stockholm!

Been pouring most of the day here, Somerset, heavy sky, heavy heart.

You would think it was dusk here it has been so dark all day and it has enver stopped raining. Really depressing and we've had a lot of days like this.

Washing is blowing on the line. Got some thick jumpers dried yesterday. Not so great as a North facing garden, but a good mix of dry and wind does help!
Even our local normal river flood has not happened (touch wood)

In the UK we complain as a national pastime, but we have had no hurricanes, and our floods could be managed if councils were not so lax, and developers so greedy.

We’ve obviously got all the rain you should be getting in Wales FranP. It’s another unremittingly vile day here. I can’t ever remember such a dark, wet and dreary autumn.
