…I was just speaking to a Swedish friend, who told me that according to their paper today, during the whole of December so far they’ve had ONE hour of sun in Stockholm!

We’ve obviously got all the rain you should be getting in Wales FranP. It’s another unremittingly vile day here. I can’t ever remember such a dark, wet and dreary autumn.

Same here.

Hoping no-one gets flooded again.

Casdon Mon 15-Dec-25 17:15:10

Briton Ferry had flooding this morning unfortunately. I read that we have a day of respite tomorrow, then virtually all of Wales is on a yellow flood warning again on Wednesday. Joy unbounded.

Casdon Mon 15-Dec-25 17:15:47

Sorry, flood alert, not warning.

I came home yesterday after being away for three weeks and the answerphone was full of flood alert messages ( and I got another one today). Is it ever going to stop raining?

Visgir1 Mon 15-Dec-25 17:30:14

I not a fan of the Winter months.
In my part of the country the very South of England, we do get reasonable temperatures, with a lot of trees still not shed their leaves but this rain just gets on my nerves.
If it was cold and dry it would be fine..but this damp!

I still maintain we now have 5 seasons.. Summer, Autumn, Rain, Winter and Spring.

I'm a summer fan love the sun and the heat.

Oh, not again.

Everywhere had just dried out ☹

I could here the rain on the windows when I woke up this morning and it's poured down for most of the day. I was glad to shut it out when dusk fell. It's been a very gloomy day.

Winter weather, good or bad, it changes. tchhmm

Swedish friend added that they’ve had LOADs of rain - mud absolutely everywhere, she said, too much of which adheres to her little dog whenever she takes him out.

VERY fed-up with the weather overall. It's a lot more windy here (West Wales) than what I'm used to (southern England) - but I could swear it's been getting worse the last year or two.

My tv aerial got knocked for six by a particularly bad bout of wind a few months back and I've now got a new one inside my loft with a booster. Now I've gone from the initial "worried why my lights occasionally flicker here during wind - as obviously they shouldnt" to "Boy - have they ever been flickering during wind" and am now in the process of 4 visits in a row from the electric people to stop the flickering - as it's starting to make life uncomfortable and got me worried in case it's a safety hazard. Yep...it's proven harder than they thought to get to the source of the flickering and stop it (reckons it's something to do with the fact many electric lines are hanging on poles above ground in this area - rather than being buried underground).

Casdon Tue 16-Dec-25 15:14:42

It more than likely is due to the overhead lines that your lights flicker CariadAgain. Ours do too, it’s one of the joys of country living. Every time anything touches the overhead line it flickers as it interrupts the power supply momentarily. It’s worst when it’s windy because debris flies around, particularly at this time of year.

What is confusing me is that I wondered/worried about the odd bit of flickering lights when I first moved here and put it down to "Because they've got those lines up in the air - rather than down under the ground as normal". But it has got noticeably worse recently and hence calling them in to investigate. After they'd done some amending on the pole itself it actually got noticeably worse - worse enough I was basically forced to go to bed earlier because of my house!! as the flickering had gone from intermittent to pretty constant (and I've not had that since moving here).

So right now they're doing further checks to see what the problem is and have left me a measuring gadget set up for a week to see what it registers and they changed a cut-out box thing beside my fusebox whilst they were on the subject (as that looked "ancient" to me - and yep...it's from the 1970s when the house was built). So I'm keeping my fingers crossed that will do the trick - as that would certainly be seriously wierd to have my life disrupted (ie going to bed when I don't intend to) because of things not working properly. I do have a temper and I know my limitations - and that would be a "step far too far" if the house did that and imposed early nights on me that I've not decided on. Things would be flying - ie because I'd throw them myself....I know myself well enough to know things would be flying....

Anyway - they've been in twice and I'm expecting them back twice more - and hopefully that will be that and "normal - as I'm used to". Fortunately too one of my neighbours is from a lot further away than I am (ie another country) and he's one of those super-intelligent/multi-capable people that's renovating his house himself (to proper standard and not "flog on for a quick profit" standard) and so I can pick his brains on all this if need be - ie if their further visits don't resolve this. I've encountered him getting thoroughly exasperated about the way things had been done (or, to be more accurate, not done) in his somewhat older house since he bought it/took one horrified good look at it - and started work ripping it apart (as his looked downright good on the surface of it after renovation - but it wasnt a "real renovation" and was one of those "houseflipper" "apparent renovations".)

So we're being moral support for each other for "having a fully functioning modern house" by the time we're through.

Finally the weather is to be mostly dry and settled next week. This autumn must have been the wettest I can remember and some weeks, there's been rain every day.

Oldnproud Sat 20-Dec-25 18:10:33

Either I live in a part of England that has been getting different (better) weather from most of the country, or all the other horrible things going on in my life have put things into perspective, because possibly for the first time ever, I have not noticed the weather bring particularly bad yet this autumn and winter.

Perhaps it is actually be true that every cloud has a silver lining.

I walked 8 miles today along the beach in the wirral ...it was lovely blue sky and sunshine ( not warm sunshine but still!)

Primrose53 Sat 20-Dec-25 22:08:15

I don’t think the weather is bad at all. We live in one of the driest counties in the UK and we usually come out top in sunshine records.

We were going there that Friday but had other errands to do.
The rain was torrential.

Heard from a Canadian friend today. They are in Edmonton and it’s minus 30 with snow and deer in the garden.

I hate the cold wet dark days, but hey!
we've had the shortest day now and if time flies as this year has in a few weeks the clocks will go forward.

nanna8 Tue 23-Dec-25 08:54:59

Apparently we are going to get the coldest Christmas Day here for 20+ years - only 16 C which is b. cold for Australia. Nasty and we will be stuck indoors and no swims. Have to drink more to keep warm 🍷 Boxing Day it will reach the dizzy height of 18C. The following week, 32C plus . Wouldn’t read about it ….

annodomini Tue 23-Dec-25 09:39:40

I've looked at the forecast for the rest of the year and no rain is expected here in the south of England. However, it's gloomy this morning and could be the same for Christmas. So what's new?

That photo was in the papers - I've seen it before. But can't recall where it is...
