Bread sauce…..yes or NO!

I’ve just made my bread sauce ready to freeze for CD.

It occurred to me that this is a love or hate kind of dish.

My mother only ever added water or milk to a packet🤮.

The real thing is so delicious.

Do you love it or hate it?

I like it, but I don't like turkey.

Couldn’t eat turkey without bread sauce! It is from a packet though. 🤭

Ditto.. I actually prefer the packeted versions! ❤️

We love it, homemade. Infusion of whole fat milk, cloves in the onion, rosemary sprig, all removed before freezing. Then to add a little double cream and nutmeg just before serving. Have made a ‘bucket full’ to cater for 15 !

No, not a fan. We have made it slavishly every year because it was my sister's task. But we aren't making it this year because no-one wants it.

Thanks for the quick recipe. I’ll try it.

This looks like a good way to make it.

I've also always made mine from scratch, I don't like it too thin, but there are only two of us in our family who will eat it. However I can't eat gluten now and found that breadcrumbs from GF bread just didn't work, so I've settled for the ready-made M&S gluten free version which is acceptable if not perfect.

I've got to 68 and never tried it.

i make it every year from scratch. i use the recipe from the dairy diary cookbook which i've had for many many years but i add more breadcrumbs as i don't like a thin sauce.
i also make my own cranberry sauce from scratch with a "spot" of port in it.
but i've never attempted making stuffing. this year i'
ve bought a packet of chestnut and cranberry stuffing - thank you paxo.

I make what we in Norfolk call forcemeat balls from sausagemeat, seasoning, finely chopped onion, fresh chopped parsley, fresh breadcrumbs, 1 egg. They are the first things to disappear off the plates as everyone loves them and they are delicious cold too.

I love bread sauce. It’s my favourite aspect of Xmas dinner and then cold in turkey sandwiches

Turkey is my least favourite meat, as it is usually far too dry.

However, as a child I had an aunt who roasted turkeys to perfection every year - she served on on New Year's Day, when we went to them.

Her chestnut stuffing, forcemeat and yes, bread sauce were all marvelous.

Nothing has ever tasted so good, since Auntie died.

Never had it growing up. In laws had it, can't see the point of it except to fill you up.

You don't have enough of it to fill you up!
Unless you're a bread sauce addict.

Oh yes! To me it’s essential with chicken and turkey! Delia’s recipe, but I just put the cloves in with the bay leaf, as my late husband liked it if, after steeping and straining, I whizzed the onion in the milk before adding the breadcrumbs, nutmeg, pepper, butter and cream. I had to make lots, as we also loved it cold with the cold meats and pickles. At the start of Christmas preparations I would buy a large loaf of good white bread and whizz it in the food processor and freeze the crumbs, as I also used them in Delia’s vegetarian sausage rolls - another must! Happy Christmas! Xx

I have neither seen nor tasted it. We didn’t have it when I was a child.
