I never buy real candles and certainly not as a gift to anyone elderly. Accidents waiting to happen.
If you want something aromatic then play safe and go for a diffuser with reeds.

I am not a child and do not need nannying. I am an older woman still fit in mind and body and more than capable of being aware of dangers around me and avoiding them.
I get so fed up with people thinking I am failing or frail just because of the age I was last birthday.
I quite understand that someone who is older and has physical or mental disabilities or is drifting in the direction, will need special care and warnings, but it is the level and type of disability that decides whether these protections are needed, not the age of the person.
Actually I loathe candles and would not have one in the house except if there is a power cut.
