I'm normally in bed for 9pm because I'm an early riser and start getting sleepy around 8pm. But tonight I'm trying to stay up till midnight. Not gone well so far, already spilt my wine over me when I dozed off lol. Thank goodness it was white wine and my sofa has a cover. I'm not really a drinker so it probably wasn't the best idea to have wine when trying to stay awake 🤣 At least I'm feeling pretty awake now. Happy New Year everyone, hope it's amazing for you x

I’m already in bed, 10.40, and am going to put the light out in a minute, and try to go to sleep as normal. I’ll probably be woken at midnight by fireworks, annoyingly. I do remember that when I was a young teenager it felt very exciting to stay up till midnight. Now, I just want as much sleep as I can get. I’m grateful nobody expects me to go to parties anymore. I’ve never really seen the point of celebrating New Year anyway.

Nope... lights out here soon after a read of my book. Grandma70s...let's hope we are both not disturbed by the fireworks!

Kate1949 Wed 31-Dec-25 22:51:13

Yes staying up with a few glasses of Prosecco. I'm 76, DH is 80 in March. Who knows how long we have to enjoy the celebrations.

I’m in bed too and will be settling down soon and then be grumpy when the fireworks wake me up at midnight!

Mind you they’ve been going off since about 9pm so hopefully there’ll be none left by then!

Only 55 mins to go and I'll be seeing 2026 in for those of you who are getting their beauty sleep! Happy new year GNetters!

I was in bed before 8, then slept until just before 10.
Probably still be awake at midnight but that is my normal sleep pattern.
Happy New Year to you all.

I’m in bed reading GN with the radio on and will probably fall asleep just before midnight and miss all the excitement of Big Ben’s chimes! 🙄

Still up, just about to go to bed and get back into the current book. I can't get worked up about New Year's Eve these days - was thinking about it recently, rather sad that I no longer get the feeling of excitement and anticipation of a new year beginning with all the opportunities it might contain. Then realised that 2026 still contains plenty of options, it's probably more that I pay more attention to the news than I did in my 20's and 30's, even though I tell myself not to fret over things I can't affect or control .... It isn't a stamina issue as I'm a night bird anyway and often go to bed at 1 or 2am, even though I know it's better for me to tuck down earlier. Still, it's fun to recall (what I can) some of the past NYE shenanigans, although I marvel at my energy levels and alcohol tolerance!

Only staying up cause I’m binge watching Say Nothing…

Ladyleftfieldlover Wed 31-Dec-25 23:55:27

I went to bed at 10.30 pm and have been reading. At midnight I’ll send a message to my children. Then I’ll turn my light out.

I always stay up and toast my loved ones at midnight, especially the ones partying on a cloud.
Happy New Year everyone

I've always been a night owl but at New Year's I have to open the windows so I can hear the boats on the river sounding their horns. When dad was still alive he'd be on the phone which I'd hang out the window so he could hear them. Happy memories, happy days. Wishing all Gransnetters the best and happiest 2026 they can have.

Happy New Year to everyone. I'm still up watching BBC Alba, the music is braw.

Just off to bed now. Celebrated NYE with my teenage grandsons. Some Prosecco was drunk🤣 We also followed the Spanish tradition of eating 12 grapes each - one for each month of the coming year, to bring prosperity.

Wishing all you GNetters a healthy, happy NY🥂

Meandrogrog Thu 01-Jan-26 01:26:56

Happy New Year to all gransnetters

nanna8 Thu 01-Jan-26 01:28:50

We stayed up with a few friends and ate drank and chatted a lot. We always celebrate the NY, just part of our tradition. My children don’t bother much though the grandchildren do. Maybe we are forever young ( I wish! )

Visgir1 Thu 01-Jan-26 01:31:48

Still up now watching Jools Holland, friends just left so killing the last of the Champagne.
Happy New Year GN'ers wishing everyone a healthy happy 2026 🥂
