I started testing mince pies in October and can honestly say that I have bought just about every kind and from every supermarket.Trouble is I can’t stop and must have a mince pie with a cuppa each day.
They will soon be gone from the stores…how will I cope?😲

Just to add that boxes of biscuits are going untouched, even the M&S ones I need to wean myself off mince pies, bought two boxes in Sainsbury today but there weren’t many left.
There must be others like me, spare a charitable thought for us.
😜

I love ‘em. I like the Aldi crumble ones best but they have stopped selling them now. They are better than the Coles and Woolworths ones which are their main rivals. How dare they stop selling them? Just not thinking of me at all 🤪

You can always bake your own? Even more delicious than shop bought….

mum2three Sat 03-Jan-26 05:35:50

Get a stock of mincemeat and make your own.

grandMattie Sat 03-Jan-26 05:42:52

Make your own.
Mincemeat is on the shelves all year, and you can get ready made pastry. You could even make both your own pastry and mincemeat - the recipe in GN’s folder is excellent.

Mince pie addiction needs to be taken very seriously. I believe there is a helpline and rehab centre at The Fat House, Pastry Street.

Do reach out and get help.

Do you think they have mince pie vapes to help with the addiction ? Or maybe chocolate sultanas ?

NannyJan53 Sat 03-Jan-26 06:37:06

I can take or leave mince pies, I have only had one of my homemade ones this Christmas.

MrJ on the other hand eats one every day! smile. I have a stash in the Freezer, once they have gone that is it until next December.

seasider Sat 03-Jan-26 07:57:36

Don’t worry . They will be back in August grin

SueDonim Sat 03-Jan-26 08:05:57

Mincemeat in M&S is reduced to £1.25 - get yourself a few jars for any mince pie emergencies! 🥧

I just knew it was you who had started this thread Oreo, before I clicked on grin There's a song dedicated to the far gone mince pie addict it goes something like this.

They tried to make me go to rehab but I said no! no! no!
Leave me with my pies and go! go! go!
I just ain't got the time
My pies are mighty fine
Even tho' they're full of god know what
And I'm eatin' such a lot
A pie goes down with a cuppa
Then you don't need no suppa
They tried to make me go to rehab but I said no! no! no!
If I like my festive fare, well so! so! so!
This addiction is pretty bad
But I ain't feelin' sad
There ain't nothin' better than currants and sultanas
You can keep your apples, pears and bananas
Yeah I know mincemeat is pretty sickly
Filled in pastry cases rather thickly
They tried to make me go to rehab but I said no! no! no!
Without the pies I'm feelin' low! low! low!
I'm wantin' them every day and every week
I think my addiction is about to peak
I'm gonna try and give them up till next year
When hopefully they'll reappear
They'll all be back in Tesco, Marks and Aldi
Thank God for Christmas praise the Lordy!

Repeat They tried to make me go to rehab

With apologies to the late Amy for plagiarising your song.

Brilliant, Terribull 😊👏👏

Oreo the only way to beat this addiction is to go cold turkey (assuming you still have some cold turkey)

Boadicea Sat 03-Jan-26 09:21:43

Guess what my earworm for the day is now...
Hilarious, thank you grin

😂 TerriBull please get that song recorded so that all us mince pie addicts can play it at moments of crisis.😖🤪
Sometimes desperate measures have to be taken, even unto making our own mince pies and consuming them in secret!
My stash is hidden at the moment from DP, let him eat cake.

I really don't think I should encourage you Oreo, you do realise it's a slippery slope, I think you should try and wean yourself off the dark fruited fare, they're the opiates of the cake and pastry world as you seem to be finding out. Sultanas in particular have been known to distance themselves from the culinary dishes they've inspired and veer off into the heady heights of staring their own political party, merely on the grounds that they have a strong affinity with nuts, which is very concerning shock With that in mind I'd strongly warn you off the Dundee cake, it presents as an innocuous light fruited cake, but it's ridden with nuts, in fact they're the first thing you see shock Some individuals have been known to start off on that, but believe me when I say it's a downward trajectory, be strong refuse the so called innocent offer of "go on have a slice" It starts off with the Dundee and the next thing you know you will be zombified wandering the length and breadth of Christmas markets, that have been infiltrated and awash with foreign cakes such as Genoa, Stollen, Panattone they're all out there and don't be fooled by the marzipan and mixed peel, these too are dangerous substances. Food of the Devil all of them, on a par with Marmite and believe me it doesn't get any darker than that!

May I suggest a way back via the custard tart, the Madeira cake, they're full on yellow, Yellow equals happiness, serenity and warmth and a way back from the dark side, think of the sun, think of bananas, not sultanas, butter, sweetcorn, vanilla ice cream, Creme Anglaise, polenta yuk and your half way back to restoring a normal equilibrium.

You'll get there! Stay strong, you're not alone, there are many like you, they walk among us. Indeed on the surface they function but faced with the suggestive "would you like a little bite of something with your tea" sometimes they crumble, no pun intended. Be prepared with a firm "No thanks" and always have your methadone to hand in the form of a Rich Tea biscuit that you can whip out if you start getting the shakes grin

Good luck

Dont go to Waitrose today...they are 10p a box.

GoodAfternoonTea Sat 03-Jan-26 12:57:13

You could make your own mincemeat during the year and then make pies and freeze them. Take out as many as you need per week. Also, did you do an evaluation of your favourite?

rubysong Sat 03-Jan-26 13:00:49

Easter egg addicts will be pleased to know there are plenty now available in Tesco. I saw a large display of them, also hot cross buns, yesterday.

labazs Sat 03-Jan-26 13:00:56

never mind hot cross buns will be here soon!

Charleygirl5 Sun 04-Jan-26 11:16:05

Thankfully, I don't like mince pies or hot cross buns. Give me a turkey sandwich any day.

What happens to turkey legs? I prefer dark to white meat.

Fallingstar Sun 04-Jan-26 11:51:04

Mince pies are not my poison, I prefer chocolate and licorice Allsorts.

Cossy Sun 04-Jan-26 12:29:08

Aldi did the most wonderful Jamaican rum mince pies! We bought boxes and boxes haha
