I have festered somewhat since our guests left on NYD.
I had a mad runaround to get the house straight, beds changed, shopping in etc then I just ground to a halt.

Today was the day to get back in control, I started admin at 8.00am, made bread, shopped, batch cooked soup, washed, done a 5K walk, changed a bed, tidied the airing cupboard, just a bit of ironing and I’m done!

It feels great to be back in control, have you achieved today or shirked?

Beechnut Wed 07-Jan-26 16:45:48

Achieved but nowhere near as much as you did 😀

Slept 17 hours!
Cold went worse.

Achieved a bit, but not as much as you have. I did some necessary admin and some washing. Yesterday was a much busier day as I tidied away the trees and put all the decorations from them into their storage boxes and stowed them away (which took all morning and part of the afternoon), then did the vacuuming as it was quite dusty where the trees had been.
Today has been much less busy 😁.

Today is my lazy day. I got up at quarter to six to clear snow off my pavement, as that must be done before 7 on weekdays, drank coffee and went back to bed for a couple of hours, as yesterday I had had to clear snow three times during the day.

Snuggled down with both cats - they had been out and come in cold. Slept for a couple of hours.

After that I hoovered the sitting-room and kitchen, wound the 8 day clock and did some tidying up in the kitchen.

Don't intend to do more than make dinner today.

I’ve had two colds and fallen down the stairs since Christmas Day and I’m moving this Saturday. I can’t remember what normal feels like right now.

All good intentions gone out the window!! Yesterday managed to stock up animal feed and replenish fridge, freezer and cupboards in case the really bad weather arrives. Once I had unpacked everything I literally collapsed - had breathing problems and developed a nasty harsh cough. Today I feel like death walking! Am led to believe it is a nasty bug doing the rounds. Breathing is the biggest problem. Fingers crossed it is short lived.

I was tempted to take my tea back to bed this morning rather than get ready to go to a U3a cinema group trip to see The Choral.
I’m so glad I gave myself a good shake. It’s definitely time to get back to normal instead of lazing about.

Tomorrow, however, will be a different kettle of fish. 😂

I've kick started myself and am doing a New Year survey of household accounts etc, getting rid of all excess paperwork. I started this last July and have made good progress but then I ground to a halt and have just got back my motivation.

Imarocker Thu 08-Jan-26 14:11:44

I think I will get back into control next week when clubs and classes start up. This week has felt like an extension of Christmas week and I have been rather idle

keepingquiet Thu 08-Jan-26 14:13:04

I still have pine needles all over the floor and boxes full of decorations to put away!!

My son is still missing his quilt from before our guests arrived. Still, have another all year to find it lol!

I’ve done better than I thought considering I feel like I’m coming down with something. Tuesday I cleaned my wardrobes out, plus the airing cupboard, changed the bed to a thicker duvet, two lots of washing.
Yesterday I did a few kitchen cupboards out, more washing, picked the DGC up from school gave them tea, then home to a warm bath and bed.
Today I’ve been on a 5k walk, done some shopping. And at last I feel a bit better 🤞 Now on the sofa with Gransnet 🤣

Goodness… well sorry I’m a slut in comparison. I will say no more.
Well done all of you energetic go getters. I’m happy lazing and getting things done slowly and as and when I feel like it!
Sloth here

Did an all round clean with no need to change bedding. Accommodated a buyer who answered a for sale advert for an item I was selling. I took the item, hurrah! Then fixed the spotlights in a bathroom. Had noticed they were beginning to look loose. Up the ladder, took them out, gave a clean then tightened them up and reinserted. One thing leads to another, noticed that the bathroom ceiling could do with a paint. Not in this weather, my "put off a while" excuse. Now making batch of soup and a chicken casserole.

Been into town to do a bit of shopping.
Bought some dusted haddock from Marksies.plus some tiny new potatoes and.a few other bits
Also bought a load of meat from my favourite stall on the market.
Had a look around Boots but wasn't tempted and caught the train home.
Sorted and divided the meat and shoved it in the freezer.
Cleaned the patio doors and gave everything a good dusting.
Back started to ache so I had a stretch on the sofa and watch One Foot In The Grave.
Hopefully get more done tomorrow

Oh my! I am so impressed with you - well done for getting down and dirty (or clean!) with the chores. I've been to the gym, my singing group and walked a lot but not one of those things involved an indoor chore - I haven't even vacuumed since Christmas. Right that's it - I really needed the kick up the bum. I'll start on a couple of jobs now. Just a cuppa. Then obviously got to reply to that lovely WhatsApp from nephew. Then....

FreedomAwaits Thu 08-Jan-26 17:26:46

Don’t suppose you fancy popping round and doing the same in my house!! Still feeling floored by the cold bug 😷

Warmglovesandsocks Thu 08-Jan-26 17:32:21

I go in fits and starts. Did loads of housework up to New Year but now with the weather I have little interest. I was also out every day up to Christmas, but now with the bad weather need to hunker down.

Blossom21 Thu 08-Jan-26 18:13:15

Bit of rubbing down a window cill where I accidentally knocked over a liquid air freshener thing that stripped the paint! Then went in trepidation and fear to the dentist for a couple of ‘small’ fillings. Celebrated surviving the dentist with a coffee and cake. Bit difficult to eat and drink with a frozen mouth. Oh yes and my shopping arrived 8n the ‘plum van’.
Little steps

Sago I'd be happy if I did just one of those things I find it very hard to get motivated. I'm stagnating living on my own for so long.

Xlotl Thu 08-Jan-26 19:36:23

Cleaned the loo and the bathroom, did some laundry, ground to a halt. Gee’d myself up to go to Tai Chi in the afternoon - almost gave it a miss but SOOOO glad I went. I saw friends there and feel altogether more energized.

madeleine45 Thu 08-Jan-26 21:04:33

Another rubbish night with a lot of pain and little sleep meant that I was so slow and struggling this morning. I am sure I saw a tortoise rushing by!! So today was our "christmas" lunch and I was struggling to walk about so much that had to go in the car, instead of the yellow peril, and infuriating struggling to do anything. Anyway it was nice seeing other people and the food was good, but I was still struggling to move about a bit. I had put bedding in to wash before I left and the cleaners were coming and they can turn the mattress over and make the bed up etc. I tried to get in touch with them earlier in the morning to say I might be a bit late back from the lunch and could they come a bit later. No reply from phone or email so off I went and got back to see everything as I had left it and a note saying the key wasnt in the usual place and they couldnt get in, so they hadnt been able to do anything. Gnash Gnash, I have no idea what has happened to the key, and wasnt able to get them on the phone. So that meant that I had to cope on my own, so took me most of the afternoon to get the bed made - without turning the mattress, at least I did finish off the wretched ironing, hurrah hurrah, and that was about as much as I managed. Glad I had had the lunch as didnt feel up to cooking or doing anything much so that was the mess of the day. Tomorrow I hope to get in touch with them and organise something but we exect the bad weather in the morning, so it will be batten down the hatches and stay in the warm. Have enough food etc., so we shall see how it goes, but of course we are more used to dealing with poor weather than the south so I expect to survive but no plans about doing any amounts of jobs.

So impressed with all your chores!

We had a dump of heavy snow overnight, about 6", so DH and I tackled it together. We have 25 steps up to the house and two landings, plus the sidewalk, deck, and the flat carport roof. It took ages, then I walked the dog. whew!

After a quick shower, it was grocery shopping, which I hadn't done for a while. The roads were still snowy, but not too horrible since ploughs and sanders had been by the main roads.

Having a break here to visit, then will make wontons for soup, and hopefully sit with my knitting or book this afternoon.

I guess everyone is different. I’m having a lovely day. Delicious breakfast then snuggled up in my cosy sitting room reading one of the new books I received at Christmas with my little tabby on my lap - bliss! For me this is what retirement is all about, doing whatever I fancy with no pressure. Our house is small so we can clean it in one morning per week leaving the rest of the time for pleasing ourselves. I don’t feel any need to achieve anything or reach any goals - my husband feels the same. Life is good and I’m enjoying every minute.

JuBut Sat 10-Jan-26 18:40:41

AuntiE, why do you have to clear the snow by 7am weekdays?
