Good Morning Saturday 10th January 2026

Good morning from a dry Bristol.

I got a lift into Spanish yesterday; I didn’t feel like battling the weather - which turned up out “grumpy”, but not wet!

We were only 4 (of 6) as the other two had problems. I have a horrible feeling that the class might just carry on for the next session, but we shall be too few for the next academic year. I’ll be very sad.

The afternoon was quiet until my neighbour popped to tell me he was still around. He is very frail and wisely hasn’t been about much in the frosty weather. I’m very fond of him.

Today, I have coffee and chat in the church. I’m going to persuade our recent widowed neighbour to come with me. He had said that in this new year he would stop ‘hiding”. The poor man arrived in April, his wife died in July. He knows very few people, so it might help to chat to others and socialise a little.

I hope all those struggling have some respite today, that problems resolve them selves and that they have a peaceful weekend; ditto for everyone else. Carpe diem 🦩🦩🦩🦩🦩

Good morning from Shropshire.Sleet overnight but hopefully that is the end of it for now.

Thank you for your kind thoughts overnight.Mum has deteriorated but seems to be settled in this new stage if that makes sense.Still too much snow for us to drive safely but hoping that sun later and rain all day tomorrow will mean we can go to see her on Monday.The staff at the home are very good at keeping us updated.

So another day at home.Always something to do and books to read.

Hoping for improvements for all unwell and those struggling with family troubles.

Groggy today, I was physically in bed for 8 hours but woke up a couple of times with a very dry mouth and nose, I am going to have to use my humidifier today and tonight

I frogged my jumper yesterday, after trying on with barber cord through all the lower stitches. I have gone down a size, there was ample room and I won`t have to play yarn chicken. I will be catching up today

Good morning from a calm and fine Torbay with the promise of sunshine.

Yesterday, many schools in Staffordshire were closed but my DD2, as Head of a large primary school in the North of the county, stayed open. She was there early as usual and cleared pathways for safety herself! The school is in Werrington and even made it on to the local BBC News website although the parent mentioned didn’t seem best pleased!!

Morning Mick, morning All from a cold, icy corner of Somerset

Enjoyed volunteering yesterday morning, Mr C was keen to go out for a coffee in the afternoon so off we went. We came back with a new frying pan and some oven trays to replace some far beyond their best. Not exciting but useful and a tick on the list.

Today is equally unexciting if useful. The car is booked for a spruce up, we’ll return via a supermarket to replace some, not all, of the well beyond use by dates (think 8 years) dried herbs and spices cleared out earlier in the week. I did look at some and wonder ‘why’. Not sure what else. I may begin ancient receipt weeding this afternoon, or catch up with tv that doesn’t interest Mr C as he’s got a date with a never ending jigsaw he’s determined to finish - one day! See how I feel.

Good morning from a chaotic but no longer stormy Cornwall.

Well, what a time our dear county has had! My eldest son and family have had no power since Thursday evening - it's due to be restored by 8pm tomorrow. They shifted over to the other granny's house because she has light plus a woodburner. Their pets are ok to stay at home except for the bearded dragon who needs warmth. Usually he's in a posh heated tank but is currently coping with a hot water bottle in front of the woodburner. My other son has power in his flat but his ex-partner who is only a mile away from him doesn't, so their son has decamped to his house together with the contents of his mum's freezer. She has a woodburner and loads of candles and is happy to stay put. I have power in my flat thankfully, though the lights keeping flashing, and until I ventured out yesterday I've barely noticed the storm from my sheltered town centre home.

The damage to trees and properties has been truly awful. There's barely a road that hasn't had a tree fall across it and there are chainsaws at work everywhere. My friends have lost roof tiles, and one saw her greenhouse blow away. I passed a car embedded in the lower branches of a tree. So many noble, old trees have fallen but fortunately there's been no loss of life. Poor St Michael's Mount has lost 80% of its trees, that's nearly 100 of them.

Generally (nothing to do with the storm) it's tricky technically now for me to post on Gransnet but I thought it only right to say how it is in Cornwall. Thank you Ashcombe for your kind message yesterday.

Today I'll head for the other coast as I have cabin fever.

Good morning from Malta where it’s fine at the moment but the forecast is for thundery showers, hail, strong wind and a high of 14°C.

Yesterday was very windy but sunny so I enjoyed having my hair done as much for the company of my lovely hairdresser as the pleasure of having clean hair.

I then went and paid my car tax and insurance. It seemed like five minutes ago that I was paying it last year! It would definitely be cheaper to use taxis but I’m not ready to give up the convenience of my car, so my bank account will have to take the hit!

I did a quick trip around the supermarket as I’d run out of tea and a few other bits.

How kind you are, grandMattie, I hope your lonely neighbour will join you for the coffee and chat.

Susan my heart goes out to you. It’s almost 13 years since we were in a similar situation so I can really empathise, especially with having to travel quite a distance.💐

Ashcombe you must be very proud of your DD. I’m sorry oldd has shared his germs with you though. Hope you feel better soon.

Glad you are safe Marzipan but sorry to hear of the destruction caused by the storm. I saw some of it on the news and it looked awful.

Good morning Mick and all GN's on a very dark, but still morning in North Yorkshire. Chilly but no sound of rain , which is good, as the weather forecast now talks of ice melting and the possibility of flooding to cope with today. It will be a day of staying on main roads and avoiding some of the many flood points in this area.

Yesterday, I was still rather struggling to move about well, so I went and got a few bits and the local paper and was pleased to return home to a quiet day. Didnt manage to do as much as I had hoped to, but read the paper, improved the gravy in my leftover chicken casserole, boiled some extra potatoes, so that I now have some for today already cooked and plan to have a simple good sausage and saute potato and egg meal today. Makes a change , not a lot of standing or time to do it, and will be quick to prepare whenever I decide to eat .

I did remove all my clothes from the airing cupboard and it was quite satisfying to see all drawers and wardrobes full and with a choice available now. Of course I resolve to never let it get so bad again but we will see how long that lasts.

There are still plenty of things I want to sort out, and am now trying to look at rooms and think if things are placed in the best place for me now. I ,of course ,did organise things to the best advantage when I arrived here, but now I need to look at it in a different way. Not being pessimistic, but I need to accept that I can have difficulty reaching up or down to the ground, on a regular basis. This means that rather than things looking good and balanced, I need to have the things I use regularly to hand and available to reach easily. I think up until now I have been ignoring common sense , however since I bought the new buggy it has sort of helped me to see that practical things have to come first. If I feel less frustrated trying to deal with things myself without having to ask for help it will be worth it. Whilst I am doing this I also will try to do that "do I still use/wear this?" and hopefully find quite a few things that I can give , or throw away , but have to be strict about not buying something else in its place.

Today I am going to Ripon, but it will be on the main roads , as the way I usually like to go , along side the river , will no doubt be flooded in certain areas, but it will be good to get out and about. The car could do with quite a clean out, both inside and out, but too cold to stand around doing it yet, and if I clean the outside it will be filthy again with mud, so not worth the effort yet.

Yesterday dd and I went shopping. She had lots buy, I bought a calendar. We visited a café where I had a scrambled egg roll and tea. The shopping area looks unprepossessing, but it has a better range of individual shops than our main town. Dd came back with me and fixed my new phone and I played with it most of the afternoon. I had a bad night and my feet are quite painful still, despite painkillers.
Today I'll stay home. It looks very icy out and my balance is poor. I have plenty to do at home.

Good morning, it’s icy here in south Glos, not fun for dog walking this morning so will be very careful.
Yesterday was a daffy day, I should have gone to art group but after a bad night and getting soaked walking tiddler I cba. I had a hot shower then a text to say that the log delivery would be in 10 minutes. Ok, but DH had dumped a load of stuff from his shed in the log store and he’d gone off in the car. I got very wet again dragging everything out, he wasn’t happy when he got back 🤷🏼‍♀️ as he’d driven 18 miles for nothing, all the way to the recycling centre only to realise he hadn’t taken the stuff from the log store…….
We now have a full log store so that’s good.
Then DH announced that the television had died, it hasn’t, it’s the aerial ( presumably because of the storm?). So, no one can come out until Tuesday so he’s in a big grump about that! It really doesn’t bother me as I rarely watch it. I’m in for a lovely weekend aren’t I? 😆
Anyway, I spent a couple of hours on my drawing, listening to an audiobook and I slept well so I’m fine.

Good morning everyone from mid Essex. It’s cold and dry this morning and seems calm outside. Fortunately we missed the storm yesterday, but had rain all Thursday evening, night and all day Friday. Today is forecast to be cold again. It was the lunchtime bingo session yesterday, as usual I won nothing, but did win some raffle prizes. Lunch was good and plentiful and it was nice to meet up with friends. I also braved the wind and rain to walk to the pharmacy to pick up my prescriptions.

I’m pleased you survived the storm marzipan but was sad to see pictures of the devastation in parts of Cornwall, especially on St.Michael’s Mount.
ash well done to your DD for keeping her school open yesterday. I hope your DH hasn’t shared his germs with you, it sounds a very nasty cold/ infection.

We have had an inch of snow overnight here in Scarborough, it’s bitterly cold.
We have picked a rough time to come away. We normally grab a few days in early December but that wasn’t possible so January it is.
Saying that we had a very nice day in Whitby. It was strange with very few people and most shops were closed but that was ok.
We walked on the West Cliff, opposite side to the Abbey. There is a beautiful view of it from here though. It looked very wild and bleak . A perfect setting for Dracula!
Today we are going to have a look around Scarborough. There are a few antique shops to browse. Also coffee breaks. We found a fabulous cafe yesterday in Whitby. It was called Sherlocks and was as such themed. It was very atmospheric and also had an amazing gluten free lemon tart.

My toe seems to be improving and my eyes are 99% better.

Not sure about today. I have a large sideboard to clear out and a stack of ironing. It is very icy in my village and the roads won’t be gritted. I won’t be going very far. I have a busy week next week so maybe a quiet weekend looms.

Not much happening here we will pop to Waitrose and the farm shop for supplies first thing and then stay in and keep warm. Ironing pile is growing and more washing to do. There are only two of us but always a laundry mountain.

Good morning from the NE where we have a fine dusting of snow, further snow showers have disappeared off the forecast.
I am waiting to hear whether DS will visit today, he lives in a village and sometimes travel is risky when the weather is bad.
Yesterday DD and SIL took me grocery shopping and then we went out for a late lunch. The restaurant was very quiet and the meal was good.
After lunch we went to a nearby retail outlet. I didn't find any suitable clothes.
We returned to my house and we had a glass of Champagne and nibbles, a farewell drink as they return to their home in Brussels in a couple of days. DD starts her new job at the beginning of February.

Good morning from a chilly E Essex, we had the persistent rain also Redcar but it’s dry this morning.

I fancy fish for dinner, so will go to the fishmonger down the road first thing. Then a quick nip round local shops (bread, milk etc.) and that’s me done.

Good morning. A bit of a frost here in N. Bucks but it is dry and no wind to speak of.
A local food shop for us this morning . After lunch DH will collect his Mum and bring her over for dinner. I’m doing her favourite, roast lamb and then rhubarb crumble.
Glad those affected by the storm are safe, we were lucky that it barely touched us. Hope poorlies see some improvement and wish everyone a good day.

Good morning from South Lanarkshire, we have a little snow but not enough to be a problem.

A good chunk of yesterday was spent organising all my medical supplies, everything had got rather messy as I’d just been piling things up, I feel more in control now.

I completely forgot until late last night that our yarn group is having a get together in our local hotel today. I’ll have to wash my hair and think about what to wear, oh to have a stylist on hand.

Late to the forum today as I didn't get up until DH came to check that I was alright - it was 8am. I am usually up and about at 6am and can't remember the last time I was still in bed so late in the morning!

Very frosty here on the south coast again. I keep hoping it will have warmed up but not so far. At least the light is coming back noticeably now and that is a boost.

Pottering day today and I shall not venture outside. The cold air has an adverse effect on me.

Glad you survived the awful devastation Marzipan - you will no doubt see the results of it on on your trip out today. Safe travels!

Good morning everyone from a bright and sunny 🌞Northampton, so nice to see after several dull days.

Another day in yesterday, and think I have finally got the house back to rights after the festive season! Cleaned the bathrooms and steam-mopped the floors.

Since I now have an empty linen chest after Thursday's re-organisation of table linen, I moved all the bedding into it. Then I had an empty under-bed storage drawer, so the towels got re-sorted. Wish I had a decent airing cupboard - well I do have one but the massive-sized hot water tank takes up all the space in it - no room even for a single shelf.

Since I haven't been out of the house since Monday's yoga, I am planning on a bus trip to the shops today. Coffee in Costa followed by a visit to M&S Food and Sainsbury's, and possibly a browse around Next and Boots. Don't need much but it'll be good to be out.
Steak and baked potato for dinner.tonight.
