Isn't this a wonderful product? So cheap and easily available. And so many uses.

I have just wiped my sore, dry eyes and eyelids with 1/2 teaspoon in a 1/2 pint of boiled cooled water. I used cotton wool balls and now my eyes and lids feel so fresh and clean. My current optician recommended buying eye wipes...which stung and left my eyes and lids sore. A previous optician recommended diluted baby shampoo which was better, but soda bicarb is the best.
Other uses I have read recently on GN is drinking in plenty of water for UTIs and spreading over a mattress to leave and then vacuum up to get rid of smells.
Any simple products you have on hand for many uses? I also use white vinegar for all sorts of cleaning...but not my eyes of course!!

Like you Mojack26 I have been using bicarb for ages.

I buy non food quality bicarb in cardboard boxes from the supermarket. I use it for loads of different cleaning tasks including sinks, pans and coffee stained cups. I find that it absorbs grease and is mildly abrasive. I sometimes use it mixed with white vinegar.

The toothpaste I use contains bicarb.

I can recommend Bi carb for sweaty feet.

I mix 2 tablespoons with a dash of liquid soap and warm water.

I soak for about 10 minutes and find in very hot weather, like we're experiencing in Australia at the moment, it works well.

It seems to put a coating on the skin of your feet which somehow depletes the sweat. I also soak my socks it they're particularly sweaty.

I haven't just discovered soda bicarb. We always had a box at home when I was a child.
I am just praising such a simple cheap product with so many uses. Comes not in plastic, doesn't take up much room and hopefully is not too unkind to the planet.

My opening tip was to bathe my sore dry eye lids when more/very expensive products are quite harsh and for me not as effective. The glaucoma drops I use daily leave a residue which soda bicarb bathing removes.

I remember my mother using it diluted on our sunburnt skin as well as calomine lotion.

White vinegar is my other wonder product. I buy a litre bottle regularly from our local pound shop which is about the same price as buying it on line and doesn't take up as much space as 5 litre containers.

Any other wonder products?

“Soda” in all its forms is incorporated into many/most of the cleaning and food products we use, we buy the branded products because they are more convenient and better than the raw commodities. Shops stock the branded products because they can make more profit from the marketed brand names that we want.

Have used it for ages. Removes stubborn tea stains from cups and mugs. Leave a mild solution in the the stained dishes overnight.
Yes, also a fan of white vinegar.

'gwyneth28' please can I ask how you use it for ears, as I have awful problems with ear wax, and olive oil doesn't always fix it?
