Yes, wear them but be sure you measure yourself to get the right size.

My doctor (in her 50s) says she even wears them on long car journeys now because the tendency is to press on rather than take enough breaks. I know I do this (but don't wear them in the car).

I had a long chat to her about it and wouldn't even fly short-haul without them now, though I know a lot of people only use them long-haul.
She said you are less inclined to get up and walk about on short haul. I know I have also been sitting about a lot when our take-off slot has been missed/changed. All this adds to you time sitting and waiting.

She said everyone over about 40 should wear them unless you have (I think it was) peripheral artery disease or diabetes.

I knew about low cabin pressure, dehydration, and lack of movement causing blood to pool in our lower legs but hadn't known about DVT clots often being "silent".
Because these clots often have no symptoms (no pain or redness), you may not know you have one until it dislodges up to weeks later and causes pulmonary embolism.
Too late then!

Why not wear them?

No most people get swollen feet /legs, during a flight with tight socks you wouldn't get your shoes on for a while. Flight stockings fitted correctly are much better.
You can take low dose Aspirin, 75mg if you can tolerate it?
Just try and move around the Plane and stretch your legs.
DVT during flights are quite rare.

Yes, wear them, and get up and walk about during the flight too.

My DH and I always fly long haul with flight socks on and we are both in good health but it’s just to be on the safe side.

I wore compression socks and got up and walked around every hour.
It's always wise to wear flight socks on a long flight DVTs can be deadly.

As Casdon has said also move around as much as you can and/or do simple exercises while seated.

Yes, you should. Anybody can get a DVT, and the risk is increased for older people. I always wear them on flights,

I suppose it would depend on if you have any medical issues etc, could you ask the practice nurse at your surgery for advice ?

I’m going on a long haul flight, should I wear flight socks or not?
