Bon voyage, ash and oldd, I hope the seas are calm for you.

Rose, I have just changed surgeries - the old one had 7 GPs, not a solitary one is full time…. Again, there is quite a large aged population, judging by queues for ‘flu vaccine and church congregations. What did me was the incredibly rude and unkind receptionists.

I’ve been with my current surgery for 28 years, the present service is unrecognisable from what it was. The two very part time GPs are working strictly to rule with no more than 25 patient contacts a day (that includes phone calls, writing an email, text or letter, seeing face to face. They don’t even work a full day when they are there, leaving as soon as they’ve done their 25 contacts.
There are now only 3 receptionists who are quite frankly obstructive, I hate phoning because of the way they speak to you. I’ve pretty much decided I will move.

grandmattie grammaretto has been in touch with md and passed on the news about her DDil.

Good morning/afternoon

Ilovedogs22 🤣

I have the horrible cold - whether from DD2 and family or caught while out, on buses etc who knows? DD’s asthma has been bad and others on here have much worse to suffer so I will give myself a shake 🥳

We had a lovely Burns Supper with DD2 and family - plenty of haggis, both meat and veggie, not so much Burns - DH gave the Selkirk Grace and I addressed the haggis (first verse only). I told DGSs they were a disgrace 😂. DGS1 (17 and 8 months) had a sip of my lovely Laphroaig whisky and said it tasted like medicine.

We are packing up today ready for train journey back south on Wednesday. Tomorrow we are heading for Glasgow to hear some great Scottish poets and musicians at a Celtic Connections event.

Thank you for letting us know about MD’s DiL Grammaretto. I hope all will be well.
Thoughts with Dragonfly and Gingster, coping with changed lives due to DHs’ illness. And to Ladyleftfieldlover - such a heartbreaking situation with your sons.

To all, the best afternoon and evening possible 🌷🪻🦩

Good morning all from the west midlands, another cold, grey day here. Yet, I have optimistically shoved the washing on the line! Although, I'm rather embarrassed by the state of my pants! Wafting about in the pathetic breeze; they look decidedly passed their sell by date!
I hope that my neighbours are not as bitchy & judgemental as me.... that would be quite difficult actually!
Best wishes to all you Gran's & may your pants never let you down or fall-down for that matter! 😊

Karma many thanks. I don't feel very stoic at times! I probably should go to the doctors but I'm putting it off

Please pick up the phone now, extremities are incredibly important and dithering is not good, deep down you know that

A disturbed night for no good reason so am late again. A very grey day with an awful forecast for later so shall be having a reading day which will be fine. Sorry to hear so much bad news but this does seem to have been an exceptionally long January, made worse by so much dreadful international news. Spring can’t come soon enough.

hollysteers Mon 26-Jan-26 09:43:31

Good morning from Cloudy Chambers northwest coast. Not much to report at the moment, I’ve been hibernating rather.
I didn’t go to the open mic last night, but will have a warble today and go to a folk session this afternoon in the town with a bit of shopping thrown in.

Sister in law’s birthday in the south yesterday and had a chat with her as well as with DD and sister. FaceTime really is a boon, it’s as if the person is in the room with you.
I need to tidy up my art stuff.
Bon voyage Ashcombe thoughts to FGTs and all.
Card I painted.

Ladyleftfieldlover Mon 26-Jan-26 09:21:49

Morning all from West Oxfordshire.

I’m afraid I had a dreadful night and was still awake at 3 am. The dreadful state of the world was uppermost but my two sons continued falling out doesn’t help. It will be two years in April that it started. It is our Golden Wedding in May and I fear we won’t be having a celebration with all the family.

Our cleaner can’t come today but the house looks ok!I will sort out the spare room as our daughter has gone back to London.

I need to do a Waitrose shop, drop some things at the Charity shop, buy some vitamin D supplement, eye drops and return a gilet which OH doesn’t like.

Have a good day.

MaryD and the FGT2S 🌹

Sorry to hear you are poorly UTBB hope you get an appointment.
Also sorry to hear about MD’s DiL. I wish MD would post again.
And I hope Jax is improving.

aggie Mon 26-Jan-26 08:59:38

Good morning from a dull chilly Co Armagh, rain forecast , yesterday was lovely and bright , lifted the spirits 😊
Nothing planned for today , I’ve not started another crochet blanket as my neck is still protesting from the last long stint !
I hope Jax and Md are ok
All the best for travellers today

Grammaretto Mon 26-Jan-26 08:58:00

Good morning all from the Scottish Borders.
Better than the forecast but I must get out today.
I shall join the U3A art appreciation group in Edinburgh rather than my exercise class. What a choice 😉

I made the mistake yesterday of asking for family news in our chat and heard how almost everyone is down in the dumps for various reasons.😒

I am also sorry about your sore feet GMB and agree that you are stoical.

I am in contact with MD whose DDiL had to have emergency surgery so I shall be praying for her.

I hope everyone has some joy today and weathers the storms.

monk08 Mon 26-Jan-26 08:35:52

Good morning all from a dull Black country.
Housework today and then a walk through the park if the weather stays dry.
Ash lovely photo and safe journey home tomorrow.
Dragonfly sorry to hear of DH setback glad he was sorted quickly.
Have the best day you can everyone ☀️.

dragonfly46 Mon 26-Jan-26 08:21:29

Good morning from a misty Leicestershire.

Yesterday did not turn out as planned. I had to ring 111 for DH. We were sent into Leicester although out town has a very good walk-in centre. It was all very efficient and within half an hour we were out with a prescription sent to our local supermarket which I picked up on the way home. Well done again NHS.

It was too late for Scrabble so watched a film instead.
Today the physio is coming and a golf friend is coming to visit DH. Hope they don’t come at the same time.

Wishing everyone the best day possible.

Gingster Mon 26-Jan-26 08:21:06

Good morning all and it’s dark and dreary here in Essex.

Lots on my mind through the night. Things I have to sort out, calls to make and appointments to attempt to arrange.
Dh doesn’t do any of this now as he can’t hear, his speech isn’t clear and his concentration is short lived. Frustration and impatience , so I just get on and do it.

I have Chimes group this morning so that will cheer me up.

I hope all grans who are suffering one way or another , have a ‘good’ day. 🤞

ginny Mon 26-Jan-26 08:19:33

Good morning from a dry N. Bucks.
Youngest DGS had some tests at the hospital last week, a phone call on Saturday to DD told that he has a benign cyst which they will keep a regular eye on. We can stop worrying for now.
Some ironing todo this morning and then an on line art lesson. At some point I in tend to sort out a couple of boxes that have been in the back bedroom for some time. There has been no call to use anything that is in them for months so hopefully the contents will all go.
I may fit in a short walk at some point.
Wishing all a good day with a smile along the way.

brook2704 Mon 26-Jan-26 08:13:47

Good morning everyone from Inverness where it’s just getting light and looks dry
Just a quiet day today, nothing planned so might go for a short walk with DH and then stop for a coffee somewhere
Lovely view Ash and hope tomorrow’s journey goes well
Thinking of everyone with worries and struggles, hope today is gentle and take care all whatever the day brings 💐

luluaugust Mon 26-Jan-26 08:09:06

Good morning from a grey Kent. Cleaner this morning, otherwise a quiet day, we both feel quite ill. Usual winter stuff I think.

Liberty Mon 26-Jan-26 08:07:09

Good morning from another misty grey day in Suffolk. It was so good to pick up my dear friend yesterday whose mobility has improved wonderfully after her stroke early 3 months ago. We went to a favourite pub for lunch and she said how great it was for her to have a dose of normality.

Today I’m getting the train to Ipswich to meet 2 friends who live in Essex for coffee in a church there where the helpers are adults with a learning disability, who seem to really enjoy the responsibilities they have. We shall then have lunch in an excellent fish restaurant.

One of the friends is the one I went to India with,2+ years ago. She’s about to go off to Spain for 4 weeks and I know she is longing for some sun and warmth.

Hope today is a good one for all.

Good morning from Durham.

We've got through the whole night with no coughing fit. Thank goodness.....the end at last! At least I'll feel able to join my fitness class today.

I did manage the cleaning of all three living room windows yesterday but no further. The remainder of the downstairs awaits. The days are so dull I'm unable to see how successful my attempts have been!

Yesterday's little shopping trip with GD2 and DD was a much welcome break. GD2 has developed a passion for lotions and potions. Fortunately DD keeps a special eye on the ingredients of anything which takes her fancy, to keep her in check. I have to keep reminding myself of how old she is now......memories of being given my first bottle of nail varnish at her age come to mind.

Wishing all a peaceful day.

madeleine45 Mon 26-Jan-26 07:42:35

Good morning Mick and all GN's on a still very dark morning in North Yorkshire. Cant hear rain or wind, but that is as much as I can tell. It is a very belated good morning for me. Had a rubbish night with very little sleep, and then of course, when I wanted to be awake early fell asleep, so here I am , behind like the horses tail! I am also treading very carefully as my reading glasses have disappeared and definitely cant afford to tread on them and break them , and my hairbrush seems to have gone awol too!

So I am creaking around and struggling, and trying to concentrate on my memory of the lovely day up in Swaledale, to keep me going. Today I have my class about the smart phone things. It needs concentration and paying attention, which right now feels as though it is going to be difficult, especially with no glasses. Oh well I still have some time to look for them.

Yesterday , only poked my nose out for a couple of looks at the weather and have a breath of fresh air, but had quite an industrious day, accomplished by good music to help the work along. I continued to sort through things and throw stuff away. When I see something in the paper or want the reminder about something happening I tend to collect quite a pile of bits and pieces and so yesterday, went through the lot, discarding everything out of date and finally getting a little more organised by putting dates in my big diary that I keep near the computor so that I can quickly check things. I actually need to add those dates to my little diary that I carry with me, then have up to date info if I am out and about or need to check things with doctors etc.

Then for a change of scenery I had a sort out of the fridge, cleaned and stewed some rhubarb, and got together all the veg cleaned and sliced ready for my stir fry. After all that effort, for once the stir fry was rubbish. Most disappointing, for some reason the meat was tough, not like I usually do it,and in general it was passable but not brilliant and I rather begrudged all the effort put in. Ah well we cannot be winners every time. It is rare that I dislike what I cook, so hope to be back up to par today. For some cheering light relief I sat and watched Antique Road Show and Call the Midwife and then called it a day myself and went to bed.

Hope you meet up with friends today Mick. GrandmaBatty, hope that the painkillers bring you some relief. Lovely picture Ashcombe. I will catch up on more of the posts when I get back this afternoon, but need to try and get my skates on, find lost glasses, check up on homework and gather not only my bags but my thoughts and get my brain into gear for the mornings efforts.Wishing everyone a better start to their morning than this and that you all have as good a day as possible

Grandmabatty Mon 26-Jan-26 07:40:23

Utbb I hope you feel better soon
