I have had a letter from the hospital today to report that my GP’s request for referral to Cardiology has been received.
If I don’t hear anything by April 17th I am to get in touch by email with a code I have been given.
I am certainly not holding my breath anything will happen soon.
I hope your various appointments go ok Yia a difficult time for you.

I had a mishap earlier, I dropped a new bottle of sunflower oil and it split in impact cascading half a litre of oil on the kitchen floor.
I cannot tell you just how I panicked.
Suffice to say it took ages to clear and clean.
I can’t kneel or bend after my knee and hip replacements so needed help.
My GD was working from home at her friend’s house and I had to get her to come back to help.
I was in a really bad state, the floor was so slippery I was scared of falling , but my GD was very cross with me for some reason, she said I shouldn’t be cooking a chicken dinner after being unwell for some time.
She helped with bad grace which upset me even further, I am at a loss , she is usually so kind and helpful.

I don’t know how to proceed from here, I feel unsettled after my chest infection and heart referral and wonder now what the future holds for me.
I have always been so in control and independent and now don’t know.

Jaxjacky Thu 26-Feb-26 17:28:08

utbb I would panic too, I think you must have caught your GD at a bad moment for her, we all get them. Because your equilibrium has been upset everything else gets out of proportion, deep breath, all will settle down.
Best of luck to your Mr Yia, I imagine your BP will settle when your life events calm down, take care.
I’m doing ok, a podiatrist came to cut my toenails earlier and my seed potatoes are chitting in the kitchen - easily pleased me.
After yesterday’s sun, today is windy, with drizzle, the usual.
Have a good evening all.
FGT x

GrannyGravy13 Thu 26-Feb-26 17:41:35

Oh dear Usedtobeblonde perhaps your GD was really busy with work. Hopefully all will be well this evening.

We gave the 11yr old here for a sleepover, he is such a loving boy 💙

Thinking of those in the quiet corner 🙋‍♀️

Blossoming Thu 26-Feb-26 18:09:29

Sincere condolences to you and your family Redcar

kittylester Thu 26-Feb-26 18:18:05

I can understand yiur being completely discombobulated Utbb and that would have had an effect on you lovely DGD. We all have hiccups - I know that I would have shouted for DH's help.

We were going out for lunch today but DGS5 was unwell and DD3 and DSiL both had to be in work. DH went and collected him, took him to the GP, the pharmacy and then brought him here. He was a real treasure and at one stage asked to go to bed and read. He is usually such a cheeky live wire.

brook2704 Thu 26-Feb-26 18:36:50

Oh Uttb I think your DGD was probably busy and didn’t welcome the interruption, sorry you were upset though, but understandable
You sound a bit brighter Jax, hope things are progressing well
I’ve still got to get a few things ready for our trip to Cambridge tomorrow, dinner first though then I’ll have to get a move on. I’m looking forward to seeing everyone and catching up on all the news
Hope your DGS feels a bit better soon Kitty
Hoping all goes well on Saturday for your DH Yia
Thinking of everyone in the quiet corner, take care all x

GrannyGravy13 Thu 26-Feb-26 18:42:48

My condolences Redcar 💐

Grandmabatty Thu 26-Feb-26 18:53:07

Utbb I think your dgd maybe was worried that you were doing too much and might have fallen and that made her seem cross. Brook safe journey tomorrow. Jaxjacky you sound more cheerful.
I did some tidying up this morning, then went to my art class where I began a preparatory drawing for the painting I'm going to do. I'm really pleased with it so far. Dinner was steak casserole and mash. The dishwasher is loaded ready to turn on in the morning. Dd is bringing .enjoy jambalaya for dinner tomorrow and I have a tesco delivery too. Ds is on the train home from London. All is well with my little world.

Redcar Thu 26-Feb-26 19:44:05

yiayia I hope your DH’s procedure goes well on Saturday and that he makes a speedy recovery. I hope your BP goes down with the meds and that the stress tests don’t show anything untoward.

utbb I would panicked too, a little bit of oil goes a long way, so a bottle would be a flood. I can’t begin to imagine how you’d clear it all up. As others have suggested, perhaps your DGD was really busy and anxious about the possible problems had you fallen.

I’ve really appreciated all your kind comments about my dear sister in law. I spent some time today helping my nieces notify friends about my sis in law. “Helped” by DD1’s dog who was half on my lap - she’s a labradoodle but won’t fit on my lap, so I just have the head end!

Usedtobeblonde Thu 26-Feb-26 20:35:42

Thank you all.
We have made our peace, I really was upset by the fact that I couldn’t clear it up on my own and that scared me.
My GD realised how vulnerable I was just at that time and she could see me getting old in front of her eyes.
She and her BF have been talking about looking for a place of their own soon and I think she realises how hard it will be but I want them to do it, it is the right thing for them .
Choices and decisions will have to be discussed and made.
Oh dear.

kittylester Thu 26-Feb-26 20:37:42

My condolences, Redcar.

I hope all goes well for your DH Yiayia.

brook2704 Thu 26-Feb-26 20:48:24

Pleased things are a bit better uttb ❤️

Redcar Thu 26-Feb-26 22:29:11

utbb I’m pleased that the situation with your Dgd has been resolved.

Grran Thu 26-Feb-26 22:31:49

UTBB, that sounds like a tough day all round. So sorry that it has left you feeling so vulnerable.

cornergran Thu 26-Feb-26 22:59:06

That sounds better utbb. I’m pleased you feel easier. I’d have needed help to clear that too.

Our sons get tetchy with us at times when we need help, it triggers anxiety in them which shows as irritation and impatience. The younger ones don’t like to think of us getting older and everything that can come with it.

Hope all goes well for your husband yiayia.

Say hello to Cambridge for us brook. I do miss the area although we’ve not lived there for over 50 years. Our poorly friend is in a nursing home in Soham now, sadly dementia has advanced too much for phone calls. I miss her too. We grew up together. The sister I never had.

We had some welcome news today. Both granddaughters will be at Saturdays birthday meal. The elder is returning from university for the occasion. A real treat. I’m almost afraid to be too happy about it - just in case. Daft I know.

With luck I’ll sleep tonight. I’ve had two nights with just about three hours sleep. I need my head, it’s been awol today, for some life admin tomorrow. Sleep will retrieve enough of it.

Rest well everyone. Night, night.

gillgran Fri 27-Feb-26 08:39:14

Safe journey brook, have a good time with your Cambridge family. Happy Birthday to your DGS.
How these years roll by, our youngest DGD in C., will also be 9 next month.

It's an overcast morning here in Cambs., after a little rain overnight.
We've tree surgeons here, trimming our large cedar tree.

DH has his regular oncology appointment later today.

Warm thoughts for you all. x

Grannmarie Fri 27-Feb-26 11:09:40

Good morning lovely Kitchen people.🥰
We have some blue sky and sunshine just now, wonderful. I might just hang out some washing! Small pleasures.

Safe journey brook, enjoy your family visit to Cambridge. Many happy returns to the birthday 🥳 boy.

Grandmabatty, great to read your last sentence, that is everything we wish for ourselves and those we love.

Uttb, thank goodness you didn't slip and fall.💐

Enjoy your family celebrations, Cornergran, great that both granddaughters can attend.

Kitty, hope your wee grandson bounces back soon.

Jaxjacky, good that you got the podiatrist at home, you are sounding bright and chirpy, wishing you a speedy recovery.

YiaYia, thinking of you and your DH, hoping and praying that all goes well tomorrow.

I had a busy day yesterday, Aquafit, strength and balance class, massage appointment pm then a visit to the nurse practitioner which resulted in a referral to hospital gynaecologist. An unexpected and unwelcome legacy from the lingering COVID cough...

So, later start this morning, off to hairdressers soon for wash and blow dry, then down the motorway to see the Wee Boy and family. He has lost his two front teeth now!

Wishing everyone a peaceful Friday and a good weekend. Thinking especially of FGT, Soops and all with illness, worries or sorrow. TOYA.

Grandmabatty Fri 27-Feb-26 19:01:42

Good evening kitchen folk. The weather today has been lovely for February, bright and mild. I worked in the school library this morning then got home in time for tesco. This afternoon was lazy then I did some Spanish. I had jambalaya for dinner which dd dropped off this morning and I'm now watching tv. Brook i hope you arrived safely in Cambridge. Grannmarie enjoy your evening with your wee chap. I'm sorry to hear about the hospital visit and I hope it's easily fixed. Corner I hope you get a better sleep tonight.
I'm thinking of FGT and Soop in particular.

Jaxjacky Fri 27-Feb-26 19:49:59

Great both Grandaughters will be there tomorrow corner I hope you slept well last night.
Have fun brook catching up. You too Grannmarie enjoy your family visit.
Dull and drizzle again most of today, a sight of sunshine about 4, Tesco delivered, then a friend called for a chat and with a gift.
MrJ called into the local for a catch up.
Enjoy your evening all.
Thinking of those not having a happy time xx

Redcar Fri 27-Feb-26 19:51:51

Hello everyone, a dry day although it was supposed to rain - I’m not complaining.
I had a walk round the village this morning visiting a couple of shops in the search for a gluten free cake. My nieces and DDs are visiting in the morning for hugs, coffee and cake. One of my nieces is gluten intolerant so I needed to get supplies in for her. Then went to the paper shop for yesterday’s local paper which they hadn’t delivered. My back was aching when I got home.
I had a lovely lunch out with friends, ate too much but enjoyed the food and the company.
Have done nothing all afternoon except read the paper.

I hope you had a good journey to Cambridge brook and that you enjoy the weekend with your family.

Hoping that all those who have had medical procedures today are home safely and will make a swift recovery.

Thinking of those in the quiet corner this evening.

Blossoming Fri 27-Feb-26 20:00:01

Good evening all, I hope everyone is doing alright after all the bumps, mishaps and general buggerations of life. We had a lovely walk around the Dock this morning and a trip to the shops this afternoon. MrB made a lovely bolognaise sauce this evening which we had with fussili, I can’t deal very well with spaghetti, so we use the shorter shapes instead. Have a peaceful evening everyone x

Jaxjacky Fri 27-Feb-26 20:06:53

You sound somewhat better Blossoming 👍

Ladyleftfieldlover Fri 27-Feb-26 22:52:36

Hello kitchen people.

OH and I were off early this morning and managed to park easily. We had a delicious full English breakfast and then listened to a talk on Stanley Spencer. I mainly read the papers this afternoon.

We had the other half of a chilli con carne for dinner which I had made recently with a chilli which OH had grown. We needed a lot of yogurt.

Younger son rang for a chat this evening. He was checking up on my toe which hasn’t been too bad today.

Sleep 💤 - especially FGT and the Soops.

Redcar Sat 28-Feb-26 19:35:14

My goodness it’s a quiet kitchen today. I hope cornergran has had safe motorway journeys to see family and had an enjoyable lunch.
My nieces and both DDs came this morning for support, coffee and cake. It was lovely to see the cousins together but sad to hear about my dsisil’s last days. I felt very down when they all went.
On a happier note, DGD is 11 today and seems very grown up now. She’s having two friends to sleepover tonight, but I doubt they’ll actually sleep much!

Like many others I’m still coughing from my cold, getting fed up with it now. Both nieces had colds today, so I’ll probably add theirs to mine!

Best wishes to those in the quiet corner and hope that life improves for you.

Enjoy the rest of the evening everyone.

cornergran Sat 28-Feb-26 21:50:04

Hello everyone. Goodness, I ate far too much but that Chinese restaurant is a family favourite and unfailingly high quality. Embarrassed to say I even managed some cake afterwards. It was wonderful to see everyone. Unfortunately our granddaughters grandma is on end of life care and not expected to be with us for long. Their mum, our former daughter in law, is with her mum and too far away to be home in the evenings. She’s very much missed. I’m beyond sad for them all. Distance can be a real barrier.

Hope folk with coughs can sleep easily tonight, those lingering coughs are more than unwelcome.

Love to you all, especially those climbing mountains. Night, night everyone.
