Good morning from Shropshire.Another day of rain forecast.

DD and the children came for lunch yesterday.H was very lively but luckily had quietened down when he came back from his swimming lesson. He fell asleep on the settee at 7pm so DH carried him up to bed.He has just woken up.DGD is still asleep💗DD and SIL will collect them this morning.

Glammagran I could have cried when we had to turn round and drive back but honestly DH has been a saint looking after me when I was ill and has done so much to help me with mums house clearance so I smiled through gritted teeth!

So sad ginny, sending my condolences💐

Well done to your DGS Grandmabatty⚽️what a little star.

Thinking of all our mountaineers and Jax I hope the consultant is pleased with your progress and has good news at your next appointment.

Wishing everyone the best day possible🦩🌻

Morning all from a misty West Oxfordshire. Such sad news Ginny🌹

No church today as I thought OH and I were going to a Farmers Market in another village. But no, he wants to watch the Men’s Singles Final from Australia!

I will make beef bourguignon for dinner a (a favourite) and lemon and apricot clafoutis for pudding - a new recipe. Sunday is a Feast Day so I always make a pudding!

Have a good day.

Love to MaryD and the FGT2S 🪻

Good morning all from a damp Glasgow, where it is 6°C,

My condolences Ginmy 💐

I have had a dreadful night's sleep. The pain in both legs and hips was awful, not helped by DH kicking my painful knee, of course, as usual, he was oblivious and denies everything. 🤬

I'm envious of the garden news, We have nothing, DD brought me flowers yesterday 😍 and in between showers, I went out to search for greenery, All I could find was some rhododendron leaves.
She and SIL kindly took my bags to the charity shop, as DH was reluctant to do so. They were annoying me, cluttering up the spare room, so I put them in the boot of my car.

I did not feel great at at all yesterday, thank goodness I had more medication from the GP.
Frustration is my permanent mood at the moment and I am annoyed that I have to rely on DH to drive me to appointments.
I heard a rumour, that TKMaxx may be closing down from lack of my custom. 🤣

DIL, at last, is making some progress, but she has now gone to the other extreme, overdoing her physio exercises and drinking too much liquid, according to her clinicians. She had a little custard yesterday, a major step forward.

I asked DH last night, if we could go and see her this morning. It depends on how he thinks I am, not how I think I am!!
If I hold on to him and use my stick, I should be fine. I am no longer being sick, which is a great relief and we should be able to get parked in the hospital car park.
I am delighted that they are now issuing parking tickets to the many selfish, non disabled drivers, who park in disabled spaces or in the most awkward spots, blocking people in and making life difficult for others.

I wish you all a happy Sunday and best wishes to all the mountaineers, I have a feeling Babydoll may appear to wreak havoc,
She is in for a shock, the chocolate has been moved, because WE HAVE A MOUSE! 🙈, or should I say, HAD a mouse,
I forgot to put her chocolate coins in her stocking at Christmas, so they are a special treat, when she comes.
Unfortunately, she is an independent wee Miss and thinks she can treat herself, whenever the mood takes her.🤣

White rabbits , white rabbits , white rabbits! Hurray 1st February and good riddance to January!
Good morning Mick and all GN's on a still dark morning, but lightening a little as I am a bit later this morning. Have been waking a few times in the night coughing and got a bit of a cold too I think. Never mind, I dont care, had a lovely day yesterday and if I have to pay for it today so what!

Yesterday turned out so worth while for all the effort I had to put into it to get out. I was in a lot of pain, and things were taking so long to do, struggling to do just basic things. I took so long to get myself organised , dressed and ready, the box sorted, thermos filled etc., I even wondered if it was worth going. However the weather was dry and quite sunny, contrary to the forecast given, and of course the biggest lure was snowdrops to see.

If anyone is up round Guisborough at this time of year and in the summer also , watch out for a wonderful garden called Tudor Croft there . Both the house and the garden are noted now in a historic award thing. The people who own them now, actually run a garden company, and so of course their garden is full of wonderful things and is immaculate. I met Mike oh I think nearly 20 years ago as we are both galanthophiles, and have enjoyed sharing our plants and our knowledge all those years. I had over 100 rare snowdrops in my own garden, and when I had to move, I gave some easy to look after snowdrops to friends, while of course leaving most for the incoming people. But there were a few snowdrops, which are very rare , partly because they do need rather specialised care, and can easily die off if not looked after, so an ordinary gardener might not be able to care for them and keep them going , never mind trying to increase them. So I gave them to Mike and it is quite delightful to see them growing in his garden, where I hope they will add to the small number of them. This year he was due to open the garden next weekend for the yellow book of course, but things are so advanced that he opened his garden this weekend as well.

It was so worth the effort. I really struggled to walk from where I finally got the car parked , and when I got there, instead of my usual way of immediately going to the sales desk, I needed to sit down for a while to recover. But oh what a marvellous time I had. The weather was a blessing, and of course the garden was wonderful. Many many snowdrops of all kinds out all over the garden. Everything is well labelled , and you can write names of plants down that interest you or of course these days take a picture on your phone. There were more than snowdrops too, and a lovely camellia flowering, and wonderful shrubs and all sorts. Also things like a restored revolving summerhouse, and a lovely little house with stained glass windows. That had been at the house years ago, and had been sold or taken away and not been there for I think it said something like 50 years ago. Then they were offered it back and so that was returned.

Anyway they open for the snowdrops and then later in the year once more for lovely roses and a more summer garden of course. Well naturally it was very busy, and that added to my pleasure. To meet old galanthophile friends, talk gardening and plants and feel so much part of the community of gardeners and at home. My neighbours are very pleasant but there are no keen gardeners to talk to and rejoice or commiserate over precious plants. At this time of year the sign of something surviving and coming up helps you to get through the last rather interminable miserable winter weather and I have missed that.

So it was a wonderful and cheering day, although I tried not to notice how much worse I am getting , moving about, even compared to last year. It was the one depressing thought that kept coming up as I struggled to go up some very minor slope or negotiate some steps. But I always take my binoculars round any garden with me. If there is a plant at the back of the border I cant quite see well, they are useful, and so were very good for me today as there was one area I judged would be silly to try and walk around . The path there was someone uneven and wet, so I stayed on the higher level, adjusted my binoculars and was able to look at each clump of snowdrops easily.

Anyway much cheered by this lovely time I then continued on and drove to Saltburn to get a glimpse of the sea. The first time this year. I parked easily and just enjoyed a rather calm sea with some mist coming in. Then the binoculars came out again and I was able to look out to sea, So I came home , very weary and creaky, but it had been a lovely day to remember.

So today rather grey and a little rain, which wont bother me, as it will be a slow catch up day. I shall listen to DID and Private Passions whilst I attempt to bring some order to the chaos, getting stuff dumped from the car last night cleaned and sorted and beds made and something got out of the freezer for dinner. Tomorrow I go to the first Makaton class in the morning, so want to read up a bit about it before I go,so that I am in the right mode to learn. So a quiet day planned so far.

Hope you see some good cycling Mick today. Sounds as though you had a very productive day GrandMattie. I liked the sound of onion soup, might make some of that today for myself. I dont know that Walter presents Danish, might look that up myself later. Karmalady The buns sound good . I could also do with going through all my towels and linen. Over the years you collect things, and I must say there are some favourite towels that either feel very good, or match up and look good in the bathroom, so some other towels hardly used and they are taking up space. I need to have a sort out. Have several friends with dogs, and so a few old ones might be useful for them to have for drying out very wet dogs these days.

Well wishing everyone a very peaceful and pleasant sunday, and enjoy turning that calendar over to a new month.! May things improve for everyone

Good morning all from a dull Black country.
Condolences to you and your family ginny.
It will be another quiet day here pottering about DH has requested fillet steak for dinner so no Sunday roast to prepare, I shall probably have some salmon for myself I don't like steak.
Welcome back Georgesgran.
Have the best day you can everyone whatever your plans and may you all find a little bit of ☀️.

**Ash**I searched for steam on prime and there are dozens of very good steam train videos, all with real people speaking. Your OH might be very interested

I am a lifetime member of west somerset steam railway and was once taken on a trip around the engine shed. That is where I would be everyday if I were a male engineer with experience

Karma, I have dozens of steam railway books.
I have been on the Flying Scotsmen three times, twice over the Forth Rail Bridge.
If there had been a preservation society here, I would have joined.

Good morning from a hammock with a view looking down the Nile and watching the sail boats and kingfishers diving in the river. It’s wonderfully hot and I’m taking a day off from exploring tombs and temples. I’m attempting to interpret the symbols and imagine what ancient life must have been like.
I’ve always wanted to see these incredible sites and they are more awesome than I could ever have imagined.
But today is a day off from walking 12 miles in the heat and fending off the hundreds of taxi and horse carriage drivers.

Grammaretto Sun 01-Feb-26 08:58:20

Good morning all from the Scottish Borders.
A small Quaker Meeting this morning several friends are unwell and pottery and marmalade making this afternoon. Tonight the film is Downton Abbey. I expect a predominantly female audience.

Yesterday I delivered my pots in time for the birthday. They are for my friend's DGD who prefers hand made.

That's such sad news Ginny. How dreadful for the family. I hope you can support eachother.

I picked snowdrops yesterday so they'll be on the table for Candlemas.

I hope each of you have some joy today.

Grandmabatty Sun 01-Feb-26 08:59:01

Mary doll, have you been on the steam train at Bo'ness?

WhiteSwan63 Sun 01-Feb-26 09:02:09

Good morning everyone from the East Coast.

Sending sincerest condolences to you and your family ginny💐

Yesterday we had two lovely visits to friends. Coffee and cake first and later a beautiful dinner cooked so thoughtfully but so much good for four of us and so delicious. It was a day full of chat and laughs. One of our lovely friends is a retired GP and fascinating to talk to though she has terrible health anxiety.

I’m waiting for DD to arrive. DH is still asleep so DGD 2 will wake him up. We are looking after her while GD1 goes to gymnastics. I am defrosting sausages and I thought we could all have sausage sandwiches when they come back. We will maybe pop over and visit our best friends later for a cuppa. They are really struggling after losing their dog and best friend said yesterday “I can barely get out of bed as there is nothing to get up for now” we feel so sorry for them and are worried. It’s not like them at all. So we will go over this afternoon.

Hope everyone who is feeling sad, worried or in pain can find a small spark of joy today somewhere. Thoughts to all 🌼🌹

A later Good Morning from Stockport.
I couldn’t get to sleep last night so consequently I was later waking up.
It is dull, still and mild.
A very quiet day yesterday but so pleased to see the end of January, for me it has not been a good month.
I have four birthdays in the next two weeks so must get out tomorrow somehow to buy cards.
I only buy one present though, one is a friend with whom we only exchange cards , two are family who like monetary gifts, that is easy and for the friend I do give gifts to, I have ordered one from M&S and I have arranged to take her out for a meal which she is very happy about.
We are also having fillet steak tonight, they have been in the freezer since way before Christmas, bought for a festive meal which I never felt like.
Thoughts as always with those going through difficult times.

Good morning from a dull chilly Co Armagh
I have a cold so didn't venture out yesterday , coughed and sneezed myself into a sore throat , ribs joined in , it will be another day in the armchair, I’ve kindle charged
Prayers for that poor man taken too soon ginny.
No Mass in our chapel the first Sunday of the month , one thing I found in lockdown was finding Mass live on the web
I hope today brightens our sad and poorly friends

Good morning from 6 degrees Cambridgeshire and a dry morning but rain coming in after midday. I’m still in bed after a restless night. Not sure of my plans today. Will put beef shin in the slow cooker for later and maybe go off for a walk at a local beauty spot. DH is bowling (again) He is very enthusiastic!

My condolences Ginny 💐

Good to seeing you posting Georgesgran

Take care everyone and have a peaceful Sunday

BlueSapphire Sun 01-Feb-26 09:30:25

Good morning everyone and happy white rabbits day from a cloudy damp Northampton. Have slept a bit later this morning so am only just drinking my tea while listening to Sounds of the Sixties (again!) on Alexa.

Will be sorting out stuff for tomorrow's charity collection this morning. I am at last clearing the shoes from the bottom of my wardrobe, several pairs, unworn for many years!

A good day at the rugby yesterday, our young guns coming out top over our arch rivals Leicester 44-22. Not as chilly as I was expecting, but I still had a delicious hot sloe gin toddy!

Out for a late lunch today to celebrate the three family birthdays in January and February - DD, DS-in-law,.and DS. We are trying a new restaurant in town at the request of the DGDs.

Wishing all a pleasant Sunday and a good February.

Susan56 Sun 01-Feb-26 09:30:51

I love the bowls Grammaretto.

Gingster Sun 01-Feb-26 09:38:25

Good morning all and it’s dry and not too dull here in Essex.

Not a good start to the day - I heard Dh calling and found him pinned to the bed with the clothes rail on top of him.
Too many clothes that he won’t get rid of.
I struggled to get it off him.
He had cramp and leapt out of bed, hung on to the rail and pulled it on top of him.
Oh dear!

I must sort out a bag of his clothes for charity shop.

Today we’ll go to DD’s and hopefully see some improvement .
DGD had a nice time there yesterday with her brothers and little puppy who she’s missed.

Ginny 💐.

Take care 🌱

GillyMo Sun 01-Feb-26 09:43:06

Good morning from Kent where it is very still and cool. The blackbirds are hopping about in the garden.

I have a touch of bronchitis so am taking it easy today despite plenty of jobs calling me.

I ventured out into the garden to get some fresh air into my lungs. It felt so good after a few days of being snuggled inside the house.

karmalady incorporating a turning back of the clock into one's everyday life sounds such a wonderful idea. That thought really resonated with me. I have a feeling that it will become more and more popular, especially with the younger generation taking up the traditional crafts such as knitting.

Wishing contentment for all today.

BlueSapphire Sun 01-Feb-26 09:45:04

Greyduster I too have an irrational dislike of Monty Don and Chris Packham! Cannot hear to watch them on tv.

Blossoming Sun 01-Feb-26 09:45:39

Good morning everyone from misty overcast Lancashire.

It’s calm and dry so the mist is burning off as the sun comes out. The coastguard were around the Dock quite a bit yesterday but no sign of anyone needing rescuing, perhaps it was a training exercise. We are going out for a walk now, will read posts later,

Best wishes to all who are struggling with life at the moment.

Wishing you all a good day, whatever you’re doing.

Harris27 Sun 01-Feb-26 10:10:30

First month of retirement over and must say I should be doing more. I have met up with some friends and old colleagues which was nice. But it has been so cold and my house so warm and comforting been like a long holiday. I will get into some routine this month and get out and about. Can’t wait for the spring to get out in the garden.

Marydoll Sun 01-Feb-26 10:20:46

Grandmabatty

Mary doll, have you been on the steam train at Bo'ness?

On my list, GMB. I have raised it many timeswith 😉 Mr Deaf Ears.

Marydoll Sun 01-Feb-26 10:21:34

So please to see you, Georgesgran. 💕

Stilllearning Sun 01-Feb-26 10:37:12

Good morning from my bit of South Lanarkshire and welcome to February, January has been a challenge. Yet another lifelong friend died yesterday. She had been very poorly for a long time but well looked after by her lovely daughter. Such a good person, never criticised anyone, only smiled at their ‘quirks’ while I fulminated.

I’m sorry to hear your very sad news too Ginny.

Good to see you back Georgesgran

Blue sky has appeared here, a nice start for the month. I’m out for lunch today and I think I’ll walk to the restaurant, it’s a fair bit and probably what I need in order to be decent company.

As always keeping those with heavy burdens to bear in my thoughts and wishing everyone a good day.
