Good Morning Early Birds,
A dark start with a wet ground here in Brackley this morning.
Todays plans are to have my breakfast , do some housework and watch TV , before going out to Bicester on the bus.
Health wise seems OK despite medication which makes me visit the toilet allot and looses weight for Diabetes .
Take Care,
Mick

Good Morning Wednesday 4th February 2026
(80 Posts)Good morning from Malta where a hazy, windy day is forecast with the chance of showers and a high of 16°C.
Thank you for all your kind well wishes for DGS2 yesterday. He was given a chest X-ray and a good checkup at the hospital. It’s the croup that is causing more trouble than the asthma, but he seems ok despite being very hoarse from all the coughing.
He will be off school the rest of the week so I’m on Nana duty again. I love having him, just don’t like to see him so unwell.
I am about to get into the shower and it’s a struggle! I’m not good at getting up early but needs must.
Wishing a good day to you all.🤗
Good morning from Bristol, still damp but less rain forecast today. It rained steadily all of yesterday.
I got a lot done in the morning. I had various things to print out before meeting the financial advisor. Spanish homework done - it was hard and I couldn’t finish it. Laundry washed, dried, ironed and put away.
I called my lovely friends in Sandwich. They are haberdashers, and got help finding a pattern and wool for a Norwegian style yoked jumper. Main colour is dove grey, the rest is black, orange, yellow and white. Should look lovely and cheerful. Rose will send me a parcel in the next few days.
DD offered to take me to the financial advisor, she now wants to be around for all financial transactions more than a small sum. As it was pouring, I gratefully accepted. I think DD is happy with what we have discussed. (But there are so many topics which seem to be verboten with her)
I had another meeting immediately after in the opposite village. By chance, the secretary works at the advisor’s office, so I scrounged a lift off her. That one went well too,but I came home rather tired.
Fortunately, dinner was an easy salad, so I didn’t need to cook anything. Early bed.
Today, there is a coffee morning on the estate hosted by me. It has been taken over by another resident to introduce the new temporary, agency manager (who seems to know her stuff) and Mr. Teflon. It would have been good manners to ask, it could have been on another day, but no, it is today. I shall turn on the ice, I think. I’m good at that.🥺
In the afternoon, I have the very last Townswomen’s guild meeting before they shut down for good. No real loss for me but I’m sure many women will miss it.
‘Nuf. I hope you all have a good day, free from pain, sorrow, anxiety and distress. Carpe diem 🦩🦩🦩🦩
bellas, although sorry for the little chaplain, im glad it’s croup rather than the asthma affecting him. Also envious at all the time you are having with him. Enjoy!
Good morning Michael and all GNs. Still dark in South Yorkshire and looks rather a damp start. Yesterday’s appointment to sort my ears out was not entirely successful - some of the wax is being very stubborn so I have a return visit to look forward to in two weeks time😩.
I walked up to school and back in the afternoon despite the fact that it was perishing cold. I needed the exercise.
GS rang for a chat in the evening and to give me the suggestion I asked for regarding his birthday present. He would like an addition to his golf bag. Good job I love him is all I can say😁!
Today is writers group at the library and I will do a bit of shopping while I’m at the mall.
Have the best day you can, folks.
Good morning Mick and all from Shropshire.Light snow overnight but drizzling now.The garden is white but the roads are clear thank goodness.
I caught up with admin yesterday and have booked a house clearance firm to give a quote for what is left at mum’s house. My brother has now said he will go tomorrow and start what he said he would do🙄
Today I have physio at lunchtime which will hopefully help with the back pain I have had since Christmas. We will collect DGD from after school club then take her for something to eat before her dance class.
I hope the little one is on the mend Bellasnana🙏🏻Hopefully today isn’t as tiring for you grandMattie.
Wishing everyone the best day possible🌻🦩
Good morning from a dark, drizzly but calm Cornwall. Yesterday as you can see I passed St Michael's Mount when I ended up in Marazion unexpectedly. Hard to photograph into the sharp sunlight. Had collected from our library the original account of the discovery of Tutankhamen's tomb and wanted to sit on a bus and read it so hopped on the first bus that came along. At Marazion I bought the last pasty in Philps' shop - a vegan one, very tasty and so fat and full it did lunch and supper. 😆 A long trip home but read lots of the book.
Today, a haircut at my daughter-in-law's salon a short bus ride away, then I ought to make the carrot cake I didn't make yesterday and this evening it's our Allotments Society AGM at a local theatre.
Good morning from s somerset brighter weather today but a cold wind
Bellasnana croup is very frightening, My ds was 3 and had croup in the middle of the night, we lived surrounded by forest in n wales and DH was away. I put a kettle on a padded chair and held the trigger down, my hand was aching. That round heat mark on that seat was forever on that chair. The doctor would not come out and we were miles from civilisation. I am very glad that you are all reassured. Croup is nasty, steam is an old remedy. I don`t know where I learnt that but when young I devoured all the medical knowledge I could find as a child
I had an extra hour sleep last night, good, I am still restless as ds is moving from Glasgow to Aberdeen on friday. To an unusual house with just a yard. and two tall hedges. The contents are meant to be left so ds has given away most of his furniture, however details are not in the missive. as it would be a complicated list I kept thinking that lots of contents are missing and they will have to start again. They have limited money as his OH has to find a job. and a mortgage to pay He can work remotely but they will need to tighten their belts.
Today is nothing special, apart from potentially no rain. I cannot take the car out to my allotment, road obstruction during working hours and too cold and muddy for cycling. I bunged my 10 strawberry roots into a medium pot and they are outside, they will survive, better than being tightly bound in plastic
Have a good day
Good morning from Kent. Some sun forecast for later.
Yesterday I did some gentle pottering about and walked the dog with DH. Recovering from a chest infection, I am a lot more sensible than I use to be. In years gone by I would push through any colds or coughs but I now think that delays recovery.
Today, more of the same pottering. I need to cast on some knitting for a slipover I want to make but I need to keep the tension tight on the first row so will experiment with various cast ons on a practice piece to begin with. It starts with a 1x1 rib so possibly a cable cast-on.
Have a good day all.
Good morning from Sheffield
There’s not a lot that’s happening today, just working. See what that will bring. No two days are the same
My grandson was delighted when he was surprised with fudge cake complete with a candle in Spoons last night. He had gone for tea before the football match yesterday and his grandad had arranged it. His team won too, so he had a good birthday
Take care everyone
Good morning Mickand all, we are forecast another Frey damp day 🤷♀️ I am so desperate for blue sky and a bright day.
I will go to the gym first thing, then I will see how the day goes.
Hope your little GS gets better soon Bellasnana
Thinking of al our morning friends not posting 😘🙋♀️
Morning all from West Oxfordshire. I had a quick peek outside and it’s misty.
It was good seeing a bunch of friends yesterday. One of our group has another house in London and spends more time there. It was very good to see her despite her oddness!
It is the WI coffee morning in the village coffee shop. This is usually a hoot. Afterwards OH and I will pop over to a nearby pottery which has a lovely cafe, shop and gardens. I need to top up on wrapping paper. There are a lot of family birthdays coming up. We may have a light quiche and salad lunch.
I will have three V&A lectures to listen to on the Renaissance. The ones I can’t catch live I can listen to another time as they are recorded.
Have a good day everyone,
FGT2S 🌹.
Good morning from a dark Stockport.
My GP visit went well and I have appointments for blood tests for thyroid and electrolytes and an ECG.
I was tired for the rest of the day and in pyjamas by 5 pm.
Sadly it was still midnight when I last looked at the clock.
Bella your little GS has a lot to deal with at such a young age.
One of mine had asthma which he did grow out of but yours seems much more serious and as you said his mum also is affected.
I hope he is soon feeling much better.
I shall go for coffee with a friend this afternoon, she was quite easy last week which is not always the case.
It turned very cold yesterday, 2 degrees for most of the day, should be milder today.
Have the best day you can everyone.
Good morning from a dark wet Cambridgeshire. Last night was the monthly book club meet up in the local pub with my neighbours. There are 7 of us but really no one actually reads a book except me and one other! However we catch up on each others doings and enjoy a glass or two of wine.
Today DH and I are planning a trip to a shopping outlet about an hour away with friends. Will have a brunch a wander around and hopefully all find a bargain.
Have a good day Wednesday again already February will soon be March and lots of signs of spring arriving in the garden.
Good morning from a very misty Black country, we had a light covering of snow yesterday evening but thankfully it hasn't stayed around.
DH hospital trip seemed to go ok they want a heart scan in a few months time and have told him there are 2yrs left on his ICD battery.
Today is toddlers then all the helpers are going for lunch courtesy of the mums they gave us money at Christmas for a meal.
Thoughts with missing posters.
Have the best day you can everyone whatever your plans and may you all find a little bit of ☀️.
Good Morning everyone from a dry at last south coast. The forecast is for some sun today which will be most welcome after the deluge yesterday.
DH is out with his cycling club today and is going to use his new ebike . No doubt it will get very dirty and muddy but it's no use leaving it pristine and just to look at.
Our lovely, long time cleaners are due in half an hour and will whizz through in one hour. They are so efficient and do a great job.
I need to practise the new repertoire for choir tonight. It is the AGM so we are starting half an hour earlier than usual.
I also need to do my main order for the Tesco Friday delivery.
I got the Andrew Lownie book, "Entitled", about the York family yesterday and want to read more. He is a good author and easy to read. It is well titled!
Thinking of all our burdened GNs and hope for a calmer, peaceful day for them, and us all.
Morning Mick, morning All. A much drier day forecast for our corner of Somerset. Hooray.
We were assured our gas meter was sorted yesterday. Time will tell! Other than dust removal a pottering day. A long message from our goddaughter had its usual flattening effect, an antidote followed in the guise of a chatty call from our son who is settling in his new are.
Not sure about today. Possibly some retail, therapy once the traffic has cleared. We’re plagued by major roadworks which will continue for a year, havoc sums it up.
Best wishes to all and a hope this Wednesday is a gentle one.
Good morning Mick and all early GN's from a still very dark North Yorkshire morning. Cant hear any rain and no wind, but we have been promised rain for most of the day and possibly some snow as well , so I am so glad I had that lovely saturday seeing the snowdrops.
Yesterday I was busy sorting things out. Put some washing on, with the hope of getting it out on the line, but no chance, and I think it will just have to dry today on the rails as the forecast looks no better today. Dont like stuff dried inside. Ah well perhaps it might improve this pm. Then did a variety of jobs, mostly rather boring , no great satisfaction in them. You look round and it doesnt seem any tidier! Then got ready and went to the games night at the pub.
I had my own new version of Carcassone, and they had suggested that I bring it to try it out. But there are one or two new extensions, which I dont understand yet and need to study a bit more, and then one of the experts who has played these sorts of games, will be able to show me a couple of shortcuts. So we left that and played another game, that tested my concentration, with many levels of things to understand. I was feeling very weary trying to remember so many rules and possibilities.
So it was very cheering when we finished that and played a game called Mind, which was a mixture of working out possibilities, and being able have a poker face, giving no clues to the other players. This played to my strengths and while a lot of concentration was needed, I wasnt trying to remember who was what and what different thing each subject could do. So I did quite well, and hopefully let the other players see that I will eventually be useful at other games , as I have felt that they must think I am such a dunce, as they have to keep explaining things to me. Part of the problem is that different games are brought in each week and they choose what to play, so I dont get a chance to play the same game enough to really learn all the basics before we are off on a different one. Anyway I did come home in a calmer mood.
So the plan for today should hopefully see a few things sorted out, and I will be able to see where I have made a difference. This morning, I plan to start off quietly, going through a wardrobe and being stern with myself. I have at least 4 blouses, clean and hung up, which I havent worn for months. I need to do a bit of decluttering, and the weather changing so often doesnt help. Then I plan to look through the new Makaton book, checking what we did on monday, practising my signing and checking that I am doing it correctly. When I get some daylight, I need to get the yellow peril out as it is market day, but will need my rain cape over my jacket I think.
Then return home and sort shopping and organise for an early dinner, as I am off gadding to the whist drive tonight. Hopefully a better session than I had last week, but it is enjoyable company whatever the cards do. I got in touch with my son, and am very pleased that he has been able to have that back tooth out at last, and it all went well and she got it out without it breaking , so fingers crossed , he will have no more problem with that and he should begin to get more sleep and feel better.
Mick medication is always a bit of swings and roundabouts isnt it. You just find something good for one problem and it causes upsets for another. Hope it settles down for you. Bellasnana, hope your DGS is beginning to feel better. How lovely for him to have Granny close by, to take care of him. GrandMattie your norwegian jumper sounds nice with lovely colours in it.Hope your hijacked coffee morning goes well and you at least get some answers from Mr Teflon. Marzipan, what a lovely atmospheric picture that is. It seems so many years since we used to come to Cornwall several times a year. My husband played rugby for london welsh and london cornish and we used to career off to matches when we lived in London and so spent many hours getting down there and then we would also go camping too. Of course the roads were not so busy, but we still got up at crazy hours in the morning to get a good way along before it got busy. Karmalady, glad you had a bit more sleep. Hope the move goes ok for them. It doesnt matter how long ago our children left home and are capable adults who can run their own lives, I think that mums cannot help worrying over their choices and see possible problems happening.
I hope everyone has an easy day with few problems that cannot be solved as you go. Watch out in the gardens you pass for signs of flowers coming up to cheer us with the thought of spring on the way.
Good morning, damp around the edges here in south Glos, hopefully a bit warmer than yesterday.
I finished my crochet blanket yesterday, very pleased with it. The final round was 980 stitches so I dread to think how many in total!
Nothing much planned for today, but I will do some more painting in acrylics. It’s not my favourite medium but it offers different textures and techniques.
I hope you have a good day 🌹
Good morning everyone from mid Essex. It’s cloudy this morning but dry. Not sure what the weather will do today. I went for a walk yesterday morning, it was bitterly cold and drizzly. Unsurprisingly there were few people about and certainly not sitting around chatting! I did the ironing but little else. I saw my friend with dementia in the afternoon, their house was warmer after the repairs to the heating system.
I’m going to chair yoga this morning, I hope the village hall is warmer this week. An Ocado delivery this afternoon completed my day!
bellasnana I hope your DGS will soon feel better, croup is very frightening. Apparently the nhs doesn’t recommend steam as a remedy for croup now.
marzipan, a lovely photo of St. Michael’s Mount, thank you, good to see the sun over Cornwall, instead of the recent wind and rain.
I hope that all those who are struggling, find life a little easier.
Have the best day possible everyone, may we all find a little ☀️!
Good morning Mick and everyone from damp, dark Carlisle. At least the wind has gone.
Sorry to hear you're still have niggling health problems Mick. These chronic little problems doctors don't seem able to sort out.
Yesterday was a day of housework, laundry and sorting out of clothes . I went for a walk after lunch in spite of the heavy, threatening clouds that lowered over us all day. There was an icy wind which made me walk more briskly than usual and I was glad to get back to a hot drink.
The rest of the day was spent reading my magazines and a new book. An unremarkable day as usual.
I haven't slept too well due to indigestion which I blame on a goat's cheese, too fatty for my aging stomach. Nevertheless, I am up at my usual time as I"m into town for a hair appointment. Then it will be straight home for whatever takes my fancy.
Wishing you all a pleasant day if possible.
Good morning everfrom Inverness, it’s still dark and there’s raindrops on the windows, it’s still cold at about 2°
Hoping your DGS feels much better soon bellas
I’ve a couple of classes at the gym this morning followed by coffee with my pal. This afternoon I’ve an opticians check up so hoping all is ok as I’ve various problems with my eyes
Hope your sons move goes well with no last minute hitches karma
Thinking of everyone with worries and struggles, hope today is gentle and take care all whatever the day brings 💐
Good morning from a dry, for once Essex coast.
DH is having an operation on his under eye this afternoon, he has to be at the hospital for 13.00. I'll take him and pick him up when he's ready to come home.
I think I worry more than him, he's very laid back about things.
I heard last night they my eldest DGD has been accepted at her second choice University. She has an interview for her first choice next week. I can't believe that she is nearly 18 and spreading her wings.
I need to go and make tea now.
Have a great day, best wishes to all xx
Good morning all from the Scottish Borders. Another dark and drizzly day on prospect.
My friend arrived last night and I hope she'll come to yarn group - she's a spindle spinner and the community lunch.
I still haven't finished my sweater but I'm hoping for help from the experts. I've ended up with too many stitches on my needles.
A past helper is due to come to visit today as she's back in Edinburgh after a trip to Japan.
Such happy memories of Cornwall, St Michael's Mount. Marzipan thank you.
Sorry to hear your little one is poorly Bella .
Hope you are better Grandmabatty. You "nannies" are so important in keeping the family afloat.
I hope all the poorlies are having a better day.
Keep dry and safe everyone.
