Matcha

Having read about Matcha and seen it mentioned in food programmes I thought I'd try it. I had a mug of Matcha in a cafe today. It arrived looking like a bright green cappuccino. Well it was awful! Just horrible like minced spinach in a cup. It is just me? Do others like it or was it made wrong?

No, it’s not you. It’s yuk!

Smileless2012 Thu 12-Feb-26 15:04:13

I ordered one last summer took one sip and that was it; revolting.

Thanks for the feedback, I've also wondered what it might be like, now I knowshock No longer will curiosity get the better of me.

Aveline Thu 12-Feb-26 15:33:00

It's supposed to be very healthy and good for you...

Grannynannywanny Thu 12-Feb-26 15:45:40

I saw someone drinking it in a cafe. It resembled the cuttings from a lawnmower box. I suspect it’s been hyped up on tik tok and will fade into obscurity when something else comes along to take its place.

I've also yet to taste "Dubai Chocolate" also green inside, from Pistachios which I do like. I suspect that's also been over-hyped.

Never ever heard of it and never seen anywhere selling it round here perhaps we re not sophisticated enough in this part of the world 🤣

Don't bother , doesn't taste of pistachios and it is more the consistently of shredded wheat.
I bought the first one and thought it might have been because I bought a cheap bar, but bought some different ones over Christmas and it was the same.

I’ m on your side about matcha. Dislike it. However I did try a beetroot latte last week which was very pleasant. I ‘ll certainly have another.

I like the mini pistachio chocolate eggs from M&S. They're yummy but not sure how 'pistachioey' they are.

Did you have to say that? 😁🤢

62Granny Thank you that's another one to knock off the list of I must try, or I haven't lived grin

The consistency is down to the kadayif, which is a very finely chopped filo-like pastry which is mixed in with the pistachio cream.

That's because the basis of it is green tea ...which is also revolting ... (to me anyway).

Coffee is also good for you! smile

Aveline Thu 12-Feb-26 17:12:33

I really look forward to my first mug of coffee every morning then my second one!

Be careful if you get a taste for matcha - GD used to drink it regularly (heaven only knows why!) and it contributed to iron deficiency:
"Excessive consumption of matcha can contribute to iron deficiency because it contains high levels of polyphenols (specifically catechins) and tannins that bind to non-heme iron (plant-based iron) in the gut, reducing its absorption. This is a concern primarily for vegetarians, vegans, and people with existing iron deficiencies."

I thought it was a hidden city from Incas! 🤣

TerriBull Fri 13-Feb-26 14:21:51

Macchu Piccu Inca city, not alike, apart from being quite green

Lupatria Fri 13-Feb-26 14:21:56

only one word - yuk!!

Etoile2701 Fri 13-Feb-26 14:50:40

I agree but my daughters love it. I don't like green tea either.

Cambia Fri 13-Feb-26 15:09:19

Don’t like the taste of it but I know it’s very good for me, so I get a tin of matcha powder and add half to one teaspoon to my fruit smoothie in the morning. Can’t taste it then!!

So expensive, but so delicious in biscuits. The chocolate does have to be cold though. Not overhyped, just over priced.

Lovely GS recommended matcha. I managed to drink one cup but never again.

JennyCee Fri 13-Feb-26 16:41:20

FranP agree. I rather liked it but it’s far too expensive
Nothing beats a really good milk chocolate (Hotel Chocolate or Lindt) with coffee filling. Have they forgotten coffee flavoured chocolate??
