Or are you a simple lemon soul like me?grin

Jaysus, but my neighbour's rather 'chunky shaped' granddaughter was being quite sick in the back garden, late Tuesday evening. Anyone would throw up if Dear Granny allowed them to stuff down American-style pancakes slathered in Nutella, ice cream and chocolate sprinkles.

Granny opined to me "what a shame - she really likes them".

They don't like Bessie Bunter, obviously.

Then we both set to swilling down the contaminated decking......that's that until next year.

Seafood pancakes baked in a light cheesy sauce in memory of Tigis from years ago. Very partial to the cherry and ice cream, Little Chef's Jubilee pancakes too.

Strictly sugar and lemon for me.

MartavTaurus Wed 18-Feb-26 21:21:35

Or you could use a special pancake making hot plate.

MartavTaurus Wed 18-Feb-26 21:20:25

tossing them is easy as the wide (wok) rim creates plenty of landing room.

I'm the opposite, having learnt the art while living in Brittany. I use a pan with the shallowest rim possible to make a traditional galette with buckwheat. You shouldn't tip the pan to run the batter around it, but use a rozell, (Breton word for a wooden rake), to spread the mixture. It should be as thin as paper, you can almost see through it.

You apply the same principal to make a crêpe but it will be heavier because of the white flour. Here's some I made.

Regarding a recent question, I use a non-stick wok for pancakes as it's a good size with a decent flat bottom.

As a bonus, tossing them is easy as the wide rim creates plenty of landing room.

Norah

Daughter2 gave me a ceramic 'GreenPan' perfect for pancakes.

I'll have a look, thank you.

Oreo

I go wild with the golden syrup bottle 🤭

Me too. When did pancake toppings get so fancy??

I make the sort mum made, Kartoffelpuffer.

Topped with apple sauce or creme fraiche.

Allira Wed 18-Feb-26 20:27:14

My pancakes yesterday were the worst I've ever made.

I know we shouldn't use aluminium but my aluminium frying pan was the best for making pancakes (only used once a year). DH threw it out a few years ago because it looked tatty and he thought I never used it.

Which pans do you all prefer?

I’m now very tempted to make some, heated up in a sauce made of butter, sugar, orange and lemon juice, and a good slosh of orange liqueur - if we’ve still got any. The Cyprus version, Filfar, is what I’d usually use, but it’s all gone, so I hope there are still a few dregs of Cointreau.

Allira Wed 18-Feb-26 20:15:52

Squeezed lemon and sugar for me.

That is not American though, that is traditionally English.

Arto1s Wed 18-Feb-26 20:01:43

Fresh lemon juice and caster sugar. Always.

NotSpaghetti Wed 18-Feb-26 19:57:06

Oh yes Polwal I remember that too!

Polwal Wed 18-Feb-26 18:45:22

Orange and sugar for me....childhood thing. But I do like cherry and ice cream (Little Chefs used to do a lovely one UK)

Lemon and sugar American style

American style? Sounds pretty English to me 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Cossy Wed 18-Feb-26 08:05:42

I love crepe type pancakes, very thin with lemon and sugar.

However yesterday our lovely DiL made thicker, smaller pancakes and we went totally overboard! Melted white and milk chocolate, fresh strawberries and bananas and “shushy” cream! Good job it’s only once a year?

HelterSkelter1 Wed 18-Feb-26 08:01:27

Lemon and sugar only.

I had forgotten I also used to roll pancakes around a bolognaise sauce and bake in a dish covered with cheese sauce and grated cheese. Years and years ago.

I was at my daughter's this year.
A huge choice of fillings!
Cherry compote, rhubarb and vanilla, fresh blueberries, cream, ice-cream, yoghurt, maple syrup, hot melted chocolate, lemon, honey and sugar....
There were also bananas but I don't think anyone chose a banana.

There were seven of us (and 3 large boys) so dozens were made and all got devoured!

CanadianGran Tue 17-Feb-26 20:31:26

I grew up with crepes, which I rolled up with extra butter and brown sugar, delicious!

Now I mostly make the small thick pancakes, served with butter and maple syrup. The grandkids like to have them with peanut butter and syrup.

Pancake Tuesday is not really a thing here, though. More celebrated by Catholics than others. I'm one of them, but non-observant, so keep forgetting about Shrove Tuesday.

twiglet77 Tue 17-Feb-26 20:26:39

Lemon and sugar, maybe a drizzle of syrup, but I’ve run out of milk so no pancakes today!

Esmay Tue 17-Feb-26 20:23:51

Banana blueberries and yoghurt-made by a friend.
It was delicious.
