Celery is one for me and also those tiny little corn cobs you get in Chinese cuisine. The other day I had a jackfruit smoothie. Yuck, sounds nice, tastes vile.

I always say that I’m not fussy and will eat most things, but thinking about it now, these are some of the food items I usually prefer to avoid:

Any milk puddings with “skin” on ( bad memories of school blancmange)
Mashed potatoes especially if they have gravy poured over
Fish pie
Shellfish
Okra
Orzo
Game pie with the lead shot included!
Tofu

Brassicas and beans---i wish I enjoyed eating those as they are vegetarian and nourishing.

Carrot cake. I had to spit it out the one and only time I tried it. It was like having a mouthful of compost. Why it is so popular baffles me.

I eat a lot of fish ,but one fish that I can't stand to eat is Rock Salmon - available at the local chippy .
It's actually Dogfish and we dissected them at school.
They had nematode worms in their gills ,but maybe many other fish do .
It's the association.

I don’t care at all for raw oysters - I’m sure they’d be a lot nicer cooked. IMO there’s a very good reason why, in Dickens’ time, they were considered poor people’s food!

I agree. I am a sweet tooth who loves cake but carrot cake is awful and the topping is not so much like buttercream but oily butter.

The only food off the top of my thinking cap that I really do not care for are: "Runny eggs" & well done meat..

When it comes to beef or venison, I prefer rare and I love Steak Tartar.

Lamb: Depends on preparation.

I detest rabbit ..

Lettuce of any sort can't abide it, but I love raw spinach leaves!

RillaofIngleside Thu 19-Feb-26 13:45:18

Avocado, aubergines, artichokes, all too slimy for me. The thought of Avocado and eggs makes me heave.
Shellfish tastes awful and has an unfortunate effect on me anyway.
Kale, fit only for cattle.
Unfortunately I'm not keen on brown rice and lettuce/leaves much either.
There's not much healthy food left!

RillaofIngleside Thu 19-Feb-26 13:47:01

I didn't eat fish for years after seeing the worms when we dissected them at school, either , Esmay!

Lupatria Thu 19-Feb-26 13:58:27

so many!
tea, celery, tomatoes, beetroot, shellfish, oysters, prawns, belly pork, offal of every description, eggs with runny whites, kale, spinach, sweetcorn.
i could go on but i think that's enough!

BrandyGran Thu 19-Feb-26 14:02:47

Aubergine yuk!

Shill29 Thu 19-Feb-26 14:03:55

Tomato soup…

Those little corn cobs, I eat raw! Quite chuffed when I grow them. Abit like mange tout. What is the point of picking to take into house and cook when they are just as nice to scoff straight from the plant.

Prunes
Tofu
Celery
Turnips

Cabowich Thu 19-Feb-26 14:07:48

Eggs - the only way I can eat them is when they're used in baking a cake. Can't abide the smell of them being cooked either.

lizzypopbottle Thu 19-Feb-26 14:18:06

SORES and Grandmabatty I'm with you on the seafood. I'll eat bona fide fish, cod, haddock, salmon etc, but not the creatures with more than four legs. I can't understand why people rave over, and pay huge amounts for lobster and, as for crab, my children brought me too many dead and stinky ones while exploring rock pools on the beach.

As a child, my family and I would visit our grandparents and the table and sideboard would be groaning with every kind of offal including heart, lights and brains. I wouldn't touch it and never have since. I know it was cheap but for them it was also a delicacy.

FranP Thu 19-Feb-26 14:19:37

Avocado and jackfruit are awful - supposed to be healthy but why bother - they add to the environmental footprint.

Tripe - my dad loved it, but the smell was enough for me!

Shellfish and jellied eels - making a virtue out of a necessity, but no longer necessary - feed it to the cats

Squid and Octopus - rubber - no nutritional value, snobbery

grandMattie Thu 19-Feb-26 14:30:21

Goats cheese. One of the very few food I was unable to swallow - pure farmyard + Billy goat. 🤢

cc Thu 19-Feb-26 14:30:44

I've tried to like oysters but I just can't swallow them. I love most fish and shellfish but can't abide whelks and cockles (just gristle) and don't like coley (smelly pollack) or farmed salmon (strangely dry).
Anything that seems slightly artificial: small corn cobs, mange tout, tofu.
I don't like corned beef, spam, butter beans, swede, turnip, tripe, mushy peas, meat and potato pie - all these largely because of school dinners as a child.
Also kiwi (I dare not tell you what these remind me of), kale (cooked leather), cooked celery and pomegranate. I get that the colourful look and juiciness of the latter is lovely, but those seeds....
This all sounds as if I'm pretty fussy and must be a nightmare to feed, but in fact many of these foods don't come up much in my normal life.

Agree.
Goats cheese tastes like smelly goats, once ordered a pizza with goats cheese on top and had to just eat the crust.

My DUncle liked brawn with chips ! I never liked the look of it. At primary school in the 50s the dinner lady forced me to eat pink blancmange even though I told her it made me sick . I projectile vomited all over her . My parents didn’t believe in making children eat something they didn’t like , they told us we could do without instead .

Fatoldlady Thu 19-Feb-26 14:38:26

Anything bitter, eg celery, rocket, tonic water. Anyone else here a "supertaster" too? Those who aren't cannot taste "bitter", hence the popularity of those things - they are sooo bitter they'd make me sick!
Also rocket, apart from being bitter, is just stems, no leaf to speak of, horrible stringy stuff, why oh why do they keep serving it up?

EkwaNimitee Thu 19-Feb-26 14:39:16

Anchovies…. I’ve tried hard to like them but never again!
I am another who can’t stand even the sight of a runny egg even in a picture. To think that when I was a teenager I loved dipping chips into a runny fried egg yolk. Makes me feel sick just typing this!

Bazza Thu 19-Feb-26 14:39:42

Olives
Any shellfish except for crab prawns and lobster
Black pudding.

Really surprised at how many of you don’t like eggs. I could happily eat them three times a day.
