Reading an article in the paper yesterday about signs that we are getting older, I had to dismiss a lot of the list but had to laugh when it said 'checking the weather forecast hourly' which I do (not hourly).

I answered a definite yes to 12 and 'always have' to 16 and 18.
12: After my husband lined our three children up and demanded to inspect the soles of their shoes to see who made the black mark on the carpet, the dirty shoes turned out to be his. That's when we decided to have no outdoor shoes beyond the porch.
16: I've always talked to myself.
18. People see me as confident and self assured. I am.... on the outside!

Numbers 3 and 4 apply to anyone who is an introvert, regardless of age.
Number 5: Occasionally. Doesn't everyone, occasionally?
All the rest were No, Not really, or Never have!I

As for sitting down to put your socks on (No.10), Never give up on balance if you want to avoid falling over!

I need to check the weather on the app frequently as I aim to go for a walk almost every day; also need to know what sort of coat to wear when going out to shops, exercise classes etc and when I’m going to do gardening.

Rarely need to … I live in South West Wales! 9/10 it’s raining! I live in Raincoats with hoods! ( hate umbrellas) !

I have lots of trips / holidays booked and check the forecast regularly before I pack.
Glasgow in two weeks for a concert then Izmir the following day to meet up with my daughter who is lecturing over there for a week.

I wish the weather was correct, I was sitting eating my breakfast the other morning, looking out window, seeing my sheep lying down, ready to pop, and thinking what a lovely day, Sun was shining, it was 7.50am. I looked at phone, weather app said it was snowing! Yes. I refreshed it, still said it was snowing!

I hope I'll always care what I look like

I check the weather fairly often, mainly for the wind direction. I like to know whether I have a head wind or not when cycling to work. It is also important in summer when working on the allotment, especially the east wind can be very nippy.

Unless we’re going anywhere, I tend to just look out of the window to see what I need to wear or take if going for a walk or just to the bus stop.

Dh does consult online weather forecasts pretty often.

Well I've clearly been old all my adult life according to this.

FYI the list was as follows:-

THE TOP 25 SIGNS YOU'RE GETTING OLDER:

1. Talking about aches and pains with friends

2. Groaning when bending down

3. Preferring quiet venues to noisy ones

4. Preferring a quiet drink over a night out

5. Enjoying an early night

6. Not caring about the latest fashion trends

7. Thinking that new music isn't as good as it used to be

8. A recurring ache that doesn't disappear

9. Using phrases like 'back in my day' or 'remember when*?'

10. Sitting down to put socks on

11. Caring less about how you look

12. Taking shoes off as soon as you get inside - slippers have become a necessity!

13. Noticing something you wore in your youth is now back in fashion

14. Starting conversations with 'Do you remember when*?'

15. Reading menus at arm's length

16. Talking to yourself

17. Moaning about politics

18. Feeling more confident/self-assured

19. Getting up at 6am naturally

20. First 'Who?' when watching the Brit Awards

21. Looking forward to gardening

22. Feeling confounded by AI

23. Listening to the radio or podcasts instead of club music

24. Getting excited about new home appliances

25. Checking the weather forecast hourly

Must say, I can put my socks on standing up but who does?!

I'm definitely guilty!

JaneJudge Sun 22-Feb-26 14:01:39

I do ALL on the list apart from being confounded by AI as I have an AI assistant on my works computer which really does cut down time on planning and rewording documents. It's very useful and makes me more efficient

I check the weather forecast once a day for when my husband walks our dog. I tell him the best time to go out and if he needs to put on the dogs raincoat ( on the dog not himself )
