The weather is grim, the news is abysmal, and on top of that we have the ups but more importantly ‘the downs’ of day to day life to contend with. So what are your comfort foods?
Mine are homemade soup with freshly baked bread from the Bakers shop and chocolate.

Dark chocolate and crisps and ice cream in summer.
That’s what I would like, but generally i resist as need to watch diet.

Tomato soup (easy tinned tomatoes, coconut milk, onions, spices) bread (easy flour, yeast, salt water) and salad (easy again).

Chocolate and plenty of it.

Cheese and mashed potato on sour dough toast with cheese and tomato on top. Manna from heaven.

Home made red lentil soup with crusty toast - so cheap too!

A chip butty, but it's a rare treat!

Chocolate and plenty of it.

I keep a stash in a kitchen cupboard that I try to leave alone until I hit a bump in the road.

I have cottage pie whenever I am feeling down. I have cooked mince with peas and carrots portioned out and frozen and the same with mash. If I have run out a ready meal will suffice.

Baked salmon steak, grilled tomatoes and vegetable rice.
I try to steer clear of sweet consolation.

Seeded wholemeal toast, butter and Marmite.
I eat this nearly every day, I need a lot of comforting.

Just had mine - fish fingers and baked beans

My homemade sourdough and soup, preferably one I made with chicken stock.

Fish pie.

Coconut dhal with naan.

We don’t really eat processed food but a quality sausage roll sometimes hits the spot!

macaroni cheese, grated cheese on top, sliced tomato,
under the grill for a blast -
good with a glass of soft cider, feel better food

Yes I too find hot buttered toast and marmalade comforting.

Homemade chicken soup. And chocolate (preferably Kinder chocolate)

Melted cheddar cheese with a crunchy golden top eaten with a slice of bread and butter. I’d forgotten and I want some now. Maybe tomorrow.

I sincerely hope that you never run out of Marmite, watermeadow your comfort requirements are so
modest - and your post poetic

BoggledMind Sat 21-Feb-26 22:39:12

I forgot to mention in my previous post - fish and chips from the chippy. A rarity though these days.

Fallingstar Sat 21-Feb-26 22:46:16

Have to say, it has just occurred to me, a bowl of cereal is also something I might indulge in at night when I’ve had a bad day, shreddies or honey nut cornflakes.
