The weather is grim, the news is abysmal, and on top of that we have the ups but more importantly ‘the downs’ of day to day life to contend with. So what are your comfort foods? Mine are homemade soup with freshly baked bread from the Bakers shop and chocolate.
Not necessarily together and in no particular order: Vintage cheddar on toast My own home-made soup, any kind Semolina pudding with raspberry coulis Well done, almost burnt, toast smothered in unsalted butter and home-made marmalade.
A good fish pie; Bacon lettuce and tomato on a panini roll with lashings of mayo; A chunk of good cheddar and a crisp apple; A baked potatoes with tuna and sweetcorn; Malt loaf.
My list would be very like this, apart from the malt loaf. I also love really fresh crunch crusted white bread, still warm, with butter.
My husband’s home made wheaten and walnut soda bread out of the oven with butter. He started doing it to use up our walnuts before the squirrels got them.

at the moment i am eating hot cross buns like they are going out of fashion! its helping me with the stress of moving house! otherwise its ice cream or chocolate
Macaroni cheese, vegetable mash with cheese, baked potato with …… hang on, cheese, basically 😁 Big mug of tea with dollop of sugar, too (don’t usually have sugar).
Hot buttered toast with Marmite - sometimes with cheese - or 'egg in a cup', basically soft boiled egg mashed up with some butter, again with toast. Proper home made macaroni cheese is always very comforting too.
Toad in the hole with mash made with potatoes and carrots. Baked beans with it. Lasagne. Shepherd's pie. Parsnip soup made by my husband. Fried egg sandwich.
