Quilted toilet paper.

The loo needed buckets and buckets of water this morning to dislodge a blockage and I have decided it was caused by supermarket own brand quilted toilet paper. It is pretty strong stuff and probably just doesn't disintegrate quickly enough.

The paper I always used to buy changed (impoved haha) and became too flimsy. I shal have to buy a variety of small packs to test. Any recommendations?.

Blimey Izal is a blast from the past, I used to use it as tracing paper 😂

There was also Bronco. Izal used to make your hands stink of disinfectant.

🤣🤣🤣
I never knew that, maybe because we washed our hands (with soap) after using the toilet and I’ve never sniffed toilet paper, even when we used it as tracing paper.

I was in a hotel lounge with my mother when I was a little girl, and very bored. I asked if I could bring down my book and tracings. Could not understand why she kept saying no. In the end she whispered “They’re on Bronco.” I did see her point!

I remember most toilet paper being much wider, and wonder why it changed is this to do with “modern” plumbing issues?.

It's all very well using paper that breaks down easily so doesn't block the drains, but I find that it breaks down whilst "in use" and leaves tiny bits of paper stuck and itchy!! Just saying!!

I don’t find that with Bazoo bamboo paper. It’s good quality.

I agree janipans a “crumby” bum🤭

We’ve never bought quilted, having heard that it can cause blockages. However the brand we usually use is so thin now! You need at least 3 sheets to stop your fingers going through it.

Google deep dive AI informs me that Andrex has lost 4mm on all sides!🤬

Some homes I visited as a child didn't have a mains water supply. The outdoor loos were provided with sheets of newspaper threaded on binder twine. I never understood how the waste was processed but at least no flushing meant no blockages!

I have never bought uilted paper because I see no point in spending more moneythan is absolutely necessary on paper that will be used to wipe your bum and then be flushed down the loo. Eco recycled paper is uite adeuate.

I use cushelle quilted, imo it's the strongest one out there but it also breaks down in water easily.
Although I bought a bum gun recently and my toilet paper usage has dropped drastically.

None quitlted 3 ply is usually OK. Don't go down as low as 2 ply its useless.

What I used to buy from Waitrose, their own essential range, was great and then they changed it to rubbish ply with no notification on the pack. So I was left with a 16 pack of stuff of no use.
Which is why I tried a smaller pack of their quilted ones. Which seemed sturdy stuff until the blockage.
At the moment bamboo is the way to go for me, but I will try the Andrex as well

I buy Cheeky Panda unbleached bamboo online- 48 rolls at a time lasts us months. Id love a bidet or one of those Japanese toilets which washes and dries your bum for you.

I have a pack of Cheeky Panda to use. If we like it vegansrock did you buy direct from them or amazon?

vegansrock Sat 28-Feb-26 12:10:21

I buy it from the Cheeky Panda website. They often have offers.

HelterSkelter1 Sat 28-Feb-26 12:26:05

I will test run the box of Cheeky Panda and order on line if we like it. I love the name. Reminds me of the Cheeky Girls way back.

Waitrose reintroduced their original good quality loo paper after many complaints, including mine.
Not to be confused with the Essential one.

I will try that one as well NotaGran55. I don't think I saw it on the shelves this week but will keep looking. Thank you. I complained as well.
