I use Sainsbury’s cushioned which is not as thick as their quilted but better than their ordinary one which has definitely got thinner.

Quilted toilet paper.
(96 Posts)The loo needed buckets and buckets of water this morning to dislodge a blockage and I have decided it was caused by supermarket own brand quilted toilet paper. It is pretty strong stuff and probably just doesn't disintegrate quickly enough.
The paper I always used to buy changed (impoved haha) and became too flimsy. I shal have to buy a variety of small packs to test. Any recommendations?.
Fallingstar- our solution to the wipes problem is to pop them straight into a fragranced nappy sack, tie it up and then put it in the bin.

Indeed. The 64 $ question!
Like a bidet you need an endless supply of flannels that can only be used once after you've used it to dry your bum as you obviously can't share!!
And you have to have a separate bin for them and wait until you have a wash load as you wouldn't want to wash them with other items.
Had enough of that nonsense with two bidet and four chaps in the house.
Now, and for over a decade, I have bought Kirkland flushable wipes. Much more user friendly. We also buy the Kirkland loo rolls as the sheets are slightly larger and the 3-ply superior to over makes. No fingers through the paper!!
And we haven't had any plumbing problems at all even though our small cul-de-sac has its own sewage pumping station. (This is now maintained by Wessex Water but until a few years ago, we had to cover the cost of the maintenance of the two pumps and any parts or replacement between the few of us. But then, the law changed and the local Water Authorities were made to take over the responsibility for all similar private Pumping Stations throughout their areas. We were all very pleased as the annual maintenance costs were jolly expensive even shared between the few of us)

Calendar girl. I was happy using ordinary waitrose loo roll until it was changed and virtually disintegrated in your hand even before use. So changed to their quilted which was stronger. But as I have now found out is too strong.
Today I bought a 4 pack of Regina bamboo paper to try. Soft but much thinner. Hopefully it will be fine. Currently on a special offer.
I too remember Izal. Used it a lot for tracing paper. Glad to see the back of that thank goodness. We never used newspaper. Surely that would have blocked the pipes as would have Izal.
Helterskelter1, after Waitrose had hundreds of complaints and one star reviews, they eventually took notice, and changed stock to Ultra Soft and Smooth, which is like their original. I buy it, about £5 for 9 rolls.
Yes i realised it was the quilted paper when our loo kept blocking up when other son was home from uni- he uses loads (always has) and it wasnt blocking when he went back in term time.So ive gone back to the cheaper rolls.(not too thin, but not quilted) we've been using Nicky sucessfully.
I get Amazon's 2 ply 45 rolls at a time on subscription. Cost me £12.17 recently.
Last year we had a 'Japanese' loo installed. It is AMAZING!! It washes and dries, you can alter the water temperature, and whether it washes the front or behind, the loo even lights up at night, and the whole thing comes with a remote control. It does take a while to dry you, so if in a hurry we use a personal towel saved just for that purpose.
A couple of months ago I had to have a Colonoscopy, which for those who haven't had one, involves taking a very strong laxative which causes frequent rush visits to the loo, both the night before, and the morning of the procedure. I read up about it, and lots of people warned about it causing you to become very sore due to the amount of wiping after each visit. I'm happy to say, that the 'Japanese' loo, saved all of that, and I felt really clean after each trip to the bathroom.
I highly recommend them.
Perhaps we use too much - I found my granddaughter using an arms length of paper! I don’t buy quilted, unnecessary in my view. Smaller amounts of soft paper should suffice
cheeky panda and portable bidet and clean old flannel to dry
I do have to keep an eye on my toilets, the minute I notice the water level rising a bit higher than normal, I use a kettle full of boiling water followed by 2 long flushes. I do have a cheap bottle of washing up liquid handy too, just in case and yes it does work to unblock
We used to live on a development with a small pumping station, it failed from time to time. Cotton buds, wet wipes and quilted toilet paper. People ignored advice
Use Wype then Who Gives A Crap no problems!
I’ve stopped buying quilted. I found it too thick and made doing that job difficult. We tried lots of options and now I use Andrex, not quilted. A bit more expensive but a much better experience in my view. Plus their wet wipes.
I have just tried Bazoo bamboo toilet paper and I think it's really good. It costs 25p per 100 sheets for unbleached, compared to 33p for Andrex quilted or 21p for Aldi quilted. They sell a bleached one for slightly more. I didn't know quilted paper causes blockages: I shan't be buying that any more now.
The Bazoo paper is smooth and strong. Bamboo toilet paper breaks up more quickly than ordinary toilet paper so doesn't block the sewers. It's sold with no plastic packaging, and causes less damage to the environment in production than ordinary paper. The firm gives money to charity for every box sold.

Can I also echo Rosiesmawagain and say the Wype gel is really good. I didn’t know it existed until I read of it on GN. Got mine from Amazon, plus a travel sized one.
The Wype gel is good but I have replaced that with a big pump action bottle of Aloe Vera gel (Amazon) which is even better and a fraction of the price. It is very soothing and effective used on non quilted bamboo based paper. It works for me.
I use Cheeky Panda Bamboo loo rolls. Does the job and flushes well.
We have a macerating toilet so have to use non quilted paper. We use the supermarket cheapest type. I like the idea of a spray.
It's all very well using paper that breaks down easily so doesn't block the drains, but I find that it breaks down whilst "in use" and leaves tiny bits of paper stuck and itchy!! Just saying!!
I know Japan had bidet toilets when I first visited 30 years ago. Wirks great but need a bit of acclimatisation. Never used quilted toilet paper, always seemed expensive.
Who gives a crap is crap. My daughter started using it and then I started using it for a long long time, but we don't use it now, because it has got much worse and thinner, and it gets flown from China so we will not buy it any longer. Not exactly environmentally friendly when it's been flown from China!
When my DD lived in Finland, toilet sprays had been installed the public toilets and in her flat, so they are not not only used in Asian countries.

I don’t find that with Bazoo bamboo paper. It’s good quality.
Silvershadow I hope you do not flush the wet wipes? They block toilets/ drains up and should only be put in a bin and not flushed down the toilet.

I’ve recently had a “toilet spray” installed next to my loo. They are very common in Asian countries and I always used them when I was travelling. You just give yourself a quick spray with a jet of water and there is no need for toilet paper. It feels more hygienic and clean. It’s also great for cleaning the loo and I’m thinking that it will have paid for itself within a year.
I do of course provide loo paper for guests who are not so keen on the idea!
Miss Chateline - this is AKA a "bum gun". (Cue giggling). I am seriously considering one of these for personal hygiene reasons (UTI prevention) as well as cutting down on loo roll. After visiting Japan and using their amazing loos I felt ours are positively prehistoric in comparison. Please would you be kind enough to share a link or a name? Can you adjust the temperature easily?
I’m really sorry but I can’t provide a link. I have a great plumber who I called, asked him to get a fitting and install it. It too about an hour to fit. Mine is cold water only as my boiler is far from my bathroom and it takes too long for the hot water to get there for this to be an option. The spray pressure is adjustable from a trickle to a ferocious blast.
I really think that this is so much more hygienic as your hands are not touching your undercarriage or anything else and I really do feel much more clean.
My daughters were horrified and gave yet to be persuaded to use it. It saves me a fortune in paper and is useful for cleaning the loo as well. No more loo brushes or marigolds !
Blimey Izal is a blast from the past, I used to use it as tracing paper 😂
Aloe Vera gel is a really good idea Flippinheck and, as you say, much cheaper.
