Good Morning Friday 6th March 2026

Good morning from a damp Bristol. It has drizzled in the late evening, and we are promised more today, complete with much lower temperatures. This yo-yo-ing of temperatures does my head in, especially what to wear.
Yesterday was quiet, with a visit to DD’s for dinner. I saw a short video of Iris and other disabled youngsters making a presentation to journalists about the environment at the BBC studios here. I don’t know how much will be available later.
For some reason, she was being vile again. I find her very trying at times.
DD is coming to lunch after my Spanish class, she’s going to help me with some financial stuff. I don’t really understand all that; having been a bank manager and in finance, DH did all that.
I’ve also got my Lent course this evening.

Good morning (what a difference a 'u' makes 😁) from a dark, very still Cornwall with an apparently dry day ahead of us. Ooh, I'll be able to wear a coat instead of a mac. 😁

My son and I had a fun time in another town yesterday where he spent a generous Next voucher (birthday present from his dad) and bought me a pair of earrings. After that we went to Wetherspoons at 5.30 and bagged the last table. The place was full of families and couples, many of them wearing Cornish tartan scarves and ties. A lovely atmosphere. We'd completely forgotten it was St Piran's Day. I had a child's portion of spag bol as my jaw is still fairly stuck but he tucked into a luxury burger. It was supposed to be a treat from me but he insisted on going halves because he found a tenner in his wallet he'd forgotten about. The pair of us don't have much income so Wetherspoons suits us very nicely. 😍

He dropped me home and later there was a knock at my door, unheard of at 10pm because I live behind a padlocked gate and locked downstairs door. Thought it must be my neighbour with a problem but hey ho it was my son who had driven home some miles away to discover that he'd left his front door key in my backpack. He hasn't a sullen bone in his body and had a laugh about it.

Today I'm meeting my oldest school pal for coffee. We first met 67 years ago and our paths have crossed throughout our lives. We are very close and will find something to laugh about, as we always do. We went to infant and senior schools together and then to college so we have many shared memories. Then I'll bus to my other son's house and collect the grandchildren from school. Back to my place once my son finishes work and takes over the reins before his partner gets home.

No Lego-wrangling any more, alas, as the change of day for collecting my grandchildren has put a halt to that, but I can always resume it if things change again, as they inevitably do!

Good morning from an overcast Malta with rain showers bringing more Saharan sand and a high of 16°C.

I had a senior moment yesterday (another one!) and turned up for my hair appointment 24 hours early having been convinced it was Friday. 🤦‍♀️

I’m hoping it’s not the start of me losing my marbles. 😨

As I was out anyway I took the car for a run and had a look round the shops. I bought a blouse from Matalan but was quite underwhelmed by the choice on offer so saved myself some money!

Today being Friday I have my hair appointment at noon. Other than that, not much on the agenda.

Good morning from the east coast. What a beautiful day yesterday once the sea mist retreated. A cooler day today.

I am up early to take my mums dog into the vets for the operation to remove the tumour on her paw. I’ll go back later this afternoon to pick her up. I’m hoping she’ll be ok as she’s 15 and a doddery little dog. Mum will be worried about her precious little companion.
In between I’ve nothing much on. The house got a good clean yesterday but I’d like to have a walk. I will see if mum wants anything doing as well.

Hoping today brings moments of joy and a respite from sadness and stress 🌼

Good morning everyone from a noticeably cooler north Wales where I’m about to enjoy the chamberpot of Yorkshire Gold and contemplate a busy weekend ahead 🫨

A visit to the Pottery Painting in Conwy this afternoon with a couple of friends - I rather fancy a jug for holding daffs in the kitchen or some such…I’ll know it when I see it🙂 Then we’ll we’ll have a cheeky sherbet 🥂 before back to mine for supper.

Then tomorrow I’m treating the Staff to a Murder Mystery night at a lovely country hotel we stayed at for our anniversary last year - side glances were numerous 🤨 when I booked it as he thought he was the chosen victim…

Popping to Dad’s on Sunday morning before returning to the nest and some peaceful days - I hope 🤞

Good morning, I think it’s dry out at the moment here in south Glos, it’s a bit chilly here too.
I’ve had bigger dog keeping me company all night, I don’t usually let them upstairs but she was fretting so I relented. I’m not sleeping well so she’s company.
Spring seems to be creeping in, I have lots of bulbs flowering in the garden, tiny buds are starting to grow on my shrubs and the roses have shoots several inches long.
I have someone coming today to do some gardening, I simply can’t manage it at the moment. I will ask him to tidy it and recut the edges of the lawn, it should make a big difference.
Still horribly short of breath, it get scary sometimes, but at least I can potter around slowly.

Buenos Dias everyone from an overcast and cloudy Spain, somewhere near Alicante; we landed at Valencia yesterday in torrential rain, but by the time we arrived at our hotel it was sunny.
My room has a sea view with the beach being just over the road from the hotel, and there is a nice promenade

Everyone in the group seems nice and friendly, just as well as we shall be in each other's company for the next two weeks!

The excursion for today is a visit to a mountain village with a guided walking tour.

DD’s sitter has let her down this evening so The Imp is coming on out to dinner with DH and I, whilst the 11yr old goes to a birthday party.

It is certainly cooler in the house, the walls have cooled so I need to light the stove this morning. It will have to be the smokeless ovals as the heat is so constant and gentle. Roll on monday when the boiler is being replaced. The road repair men know all about it and are pulling out the stops for the plumber to get access to my house. I have been very glad of the warm sun during the past few days

I massacred my big christmas cactus yesterday, pulled it apart and washed all the soil off the roots, cut it right back and placed it in pon, which is a better substrate. Every one of my plants are now in pon. The plant still looks bright this morning

Today will be an easy day, number one thing is to work on the sciatic nerve, which is complaining in my right leg. I want to knit, make soup and start on the first of 17 cds of upstairs downstairs, over 50 episodes at an ebay bargain price

My sourdough is rolling along again, just how it used to be. I can plonk a loaf together very easily now, very tasty too.

I watched the celebrations for Saint Piran's Day on Spotlight last night, Marzipan22. The Cornish have a wonderful sense of their identity which we don’t really have in Devon.

I imagine that hormones have a lot to answer for in the way that Iris is behaving at times, grandMattie. One of my daughters was much the same at that age; it will pass.

Morning all from the central south coast. We are promised light rain and a max of 12 degrees today. It should give all the bulbs popping up a drink to help their progress.

A Tesco delivery is due between 8 and 9am and I need to order a flower delivery to DD tomorrow for her 53rd birthday. It does feel slightly unreal that I have two children in their fifties!

The hearing aid saga continues and DH has now made another appointment with another provider so fingers crossed this one satisfies him. I am now observing from the side lines as he does not need my help in his research. It's available if he does of course.

Thinking of everyone with struggles or troubles and hoping today is calmer and brings some ease.

An early start today. DH and I get up at six on a Friday to clean up downstairs.
There is disarray left by the family from the night before so we have a good clean and polish. It looks like somebody has picked my house up and just given it a good shake. My kids revert to being children when they come home, clearing away is not on their agenda
It’s worth it though to see them. I’d rather enjoy their company. I can clean anytime

I am working this morning and then my friend round for coffee at lunchtime
I will collapse on the sofa for the rest of the evening.

Morning from a wet Co Durham. A mostly good day yesterday.
Two lots of flowers, one from dd2 and one from dsis, then a lovely meal with dd1 and son-out-law at our favourite restaurant. A visit from dgd and her best friend, who has adopted me as an extra grandma was a lovely treat, with hugs and kisses and a tuneful rendition of happy birthday 😂.

Had a new wireless thermostat fitted yesterday morning, one that can have innumerable settings. It appeared to be set to our instructions, but just as we were leaving for our meal the heating went off!!
After a lovely meal and wine I decided to YouTube the thermostat and wasted 2 hours. Thought I’d cracked, but no! It didn’t switch off when it should. Had to switch it off and then get up this morning to switch it on. Once upon a time these things were easy but I think age is causing my brain to freeze.
Fortunately our dear son in law is a plumber and knows about these things ( I hope] will call this morning and sort it.
Today can only get better?

Good morning Mick and all GN's on a slowly lightening dry still chilly morning in North Yorkshire. Another boringly poor night with little sleep. I thought after my day of sorting and quite hard work I might be rewarded with a decent nights sleep but no such luck. Well at least I get up to a cleaner , somewhat tidier flat.

I had a busy day in the end. Had to try to hurry to be on time for my meeting, but was really struggling and although it was sunny it was quite cold. So I shoved the bedding into the washer, and hurried as much as I could to do jobs and get off in good time, as I couldnt manage to use the buggy and needed to get one of the only two disabled car park spaces that was close to the library building. No luck, they were both filled and I had to back up as there was no space to turn in and get past the parked mobile libraries too, and so it meant that I was parked right at the other end of the car park. It was a struggle to walk the length of the park and then up the steps etc so that I was one of the last to arrive to a very full room. I hate having to ask for favours and try to cope on my own, wherever possible, but had to ask for a chair with arms, as I knew I just couldnt get off any of the chairs with no arms or sides to them. Someone went to get me one and another person asked if I needed to sit near the front and did I want them to get me some coffee etc. I smiled at them and thanked them for their help, feeling annoyed inside that I needed to ask for help, but that is a lesson I need to learn. How to be prepared to accept help graciously , not just give help. So I was glad to get sat down and disappear into the crowd!!

It was a busy meeting as the subject was a talk about scams from the nat west bank and also another part from the local police cyber department. In some ways the woman and man from the bank were quite brave to be there, but they thought they were doing all the telling to a quiet audience and soon found that in some cases they had met their match with our group.

The straighforward information about the latest scams etc was fine, and just for any of you that may not have heard of this latest one from the wretched AI area, this is what we were told. That now if you get a phone call that you think is phishing or dodgy in any way, they say you should not speak at all but just put the phone down, as now even the shortest conversation of a few seconds such as No thankyou or stop contacting me , or whatever allows them to capture your voice and then they can use this to build up and make it sound exactly like you, and then "you" can be made to ring your bank or buy something . I dont know how likely or often this has occurred but put it here just to alert anyone.

I live in a small county town and people from the dales and villages round about have always come here for the auction mart and shopping etc and there were at least 6 different banks available on the high street. Now we have been told that Santander is closing and so will be left now with only one branch of a bank physically here. We are all extremely annoyed and upset about the situation, where the banks are absolutely not providing a service to customers and have used the covid situation to push people into using cards etc and having little access to cash etc.

We are no luddites and are au fait with new ways of working, but whilst we are happy to have the choice of card or cash, we absolutely do not approve of being forced into using cards and not being given access to cash etc. Amongst our group were people who helped in small charity shops, others who count up collections from churches etc , and all of these have now got great difficulty in being able to deal with their cash, and one bank has said only £10 at a time may be dealt with at once, so the person has to make two journeys into the town to sort things out and the charity shop people are furious at the attitude of the banks to them. We also are annoyed that we are expected now to have to travel to another town if we need more than just cash etc.

So the woman was on dangerous ground when she started to speak in a very patronising way about how the banks couldnt just stay open for people to withdraw £10 every week or whatever , and that we would all have to learn to deal with digital things so basically we should begin to learn now. The man did say in a more polite way that there would be one bank which was offering a short course to show people how to deal with their accounts safely, but my goodness the woman was swiftly put in her place by several people including me of course! She was reminded of those who cannot see well or have physical difficulties using their phones, that not everyone has a phone or a credit or debit card etc etc , and another lady who (hurray!!) had been not only a worker for a bank but the bank manager - retired some years ago - that they were not providing any sort of service and they should remember that they needed people to stay with them and that with that sort of attitude people would go elsewhere.

The woman was then insultingly patronising in tone of voice and suggesting that people had to move with the times and learn to use computers, where upon I was pleased to inform her in an icy tone that I had run one of the first computerised communications system in Britain, including training over 300 people in their use, and that she might like to look at us as individual people with knowledge and intelligence and not just think that white hair meant that you were now there to be talked down to and pushed around. This produced a round of applause and she blushed and backtracked and said she hadnt meant to imply any such thing. I think she was glad to finish and the police woman was much more polite and was pleased to receive ideas as well as give them regarding things happening in the local area at the moment. So it felt very worth while to have struggled to be there.

I returned home and got the washing out on the line and it was nearly 2pm before I had got myself something to eat. Then the cleaners came so by the end of the afternoon I felt that things looked better and got my washing in before the rain, and was pleased to have a quieter evening. This morning I need to put all the ironing away, have a quick tidy up and them am off out to visit a friend. The difficulty will be deciding what to wear as we have been promised a whole range to pick from, some sunshine but very cold possible snow and probable showers!! Glad I will be in the car and will throw in extra jumpers macs sunglasses etc etc . At least it will be comfortable in the car, but I wish this wretched cough would stop. My ribs and sides ache a lot at the moment and now when I have a bad session my chest hurts too. Ah well it is a bit better than last week which is something.

Hope all goes well with the alarm testing Mick . It is good that they are checking it out . GrandMattie I am with you regarding the weather at the moment. Marzipan22, sounds as though you had a good day yesterday. I too have a friend I have known for 78 years since I was two and we meet up only a few times in the year but we carry on the same as we have always done and it is as though we only saw each other yesterday. Such friendships are a joy to be cherished . You know they like you for who you are not for any other reasons and oh how nice to be able to talk in that shorthand that we can when we share so much in the past. Bellasnana hope all goes well with the hairdresser today. Whiteswan fingers crossed all goes well with the operation on the dog and your mum will be so pleased to have her pet home. Pantglas hope you have a happy time with your friends this afternoon.

When we read of so many scams and bullying and selfish behaviours it is good to know that there are decent people in the world who try to be kind and help each other. Yesterday was disappointing, just a glimmer of sun then grey skies all day. Once I recovered from my shock at the cost of Mr C’s new glasses, that man isn’t cheap to keep, the day went smoothly enough. His blood test results should be available on Monday.

Volunteering this morning, some complex roadworks to navigate on the way. It seems there’s hardly a road not being excavated. I may cancel our after lunch tip booking if it’s very wet, we’d planned to go on the way to Mr C’s hearing aid appointment. Mr C was warned he’d eventually lose all hearing in one ear, we’re hoping that time hasn’t come.

What day is it today is a regular refrain here. It seems we’re in good company.

Good morning, Michael and all GNs from South Yorkshire where it is grey, dank and will be far removed from yesterday’s sunshine which was in for the day once the fog had lifted. I had a lovely round walk in the woods, followed by lunch with DD, and then on my way home I picked up my niece to take her to the hairdressers. We both use the same hairdresser but whereas I can get there in ten minutes, she has to make a nine mile journey in a taxi so it makes sense for me to be able to take her at least one way.

A short session at school this afternoon. If it’s dry I shall walk, but I don’t think it’s going to be.

Yesterday went well. My feet were given the 'all clear' at the chiropodist. I gitted in a visit to Aldi for bread and paracetamol. Then home to do a quick tidy before heading to Stirling for art class. I managed to avoid sitting near the humming lady from last week and thoroughly enjoyed my 2 hours. I did a pastel of the drawing I started last week and was happy with it. I'll start the painting proper next week. I had a senior moment when leaving as I couldn't find my car keys anywhere. Eventually they appeared in my jacket pocket where I was sure I had already looked! Home for a quiet evening but couldnt find the paracetamol which i had bought earlier. Very annoying.
Today I will galvanise myself to do a little in the school library then housework and washing. I fancy a fish supper for dinner and there is a good plaice😂 in the village. Have a good day all

I’ve made myself TIB there’s no rush to be up and doing.

I’m meeting a book club friend for coffee late morning it will be so good to see her again as it’s been months since I last saw her. She too (my age 71) is widowed her husband had oesophageal cancer too, treated at Christie’s and ended his days in the same hospice as Himself.

She is four years further on than me, is very stylish, plays golf where she has just been voted Lady Captain at her club ~ so our similarities are not entirely total! However I did introduce her to our book club when I met her ~ she is a fairly newish friend to me and we clicked immediately.

My lovely late mother in law used to say “like attracts like”.

It’s Friday, which has become my fish and chips tea night from the chippy round the corner. Delicious and at £7 quite reasonable these days I think? x

Good morning Mick and everyone from damp Carlisle where it rained a lot during the night.

I too thought it was Friday all day yesterday Bella. I loaded the car up with my old dismantled garden bench for an early Saturday morning trip to the recycling centre and only later did I realise that that will now be tomorrow!
Apart from that I pottered through various little jobs, had a phone call from Sydney DS and read my book and magazines, plus a walk after lunch.

Today I will take as it comes, hoping to get one or two 'special' jobs done and maybe get out in the garden for a bit of planting out.
After that, I have a late afternoon appointment with an actual GP when I hope to persuade them to lower my steroid dose and ask for a bone scan. These days, they seem to prescribe pills and then leave you on them indefinitely without any follow up.

Good morning everyone from mid Essex, it’s bright at the moment, but drizzle is forecast for later. 79 years ago it was snowing heavily according to my dad.

Yesterday was a beautiful sunny day and I would have done a bit more gardening if I’d been at home. I was at DD1’s looking after dog and grandchildren. It was a longer day than expected as DD’s meeting overran by almost an hour and when they got to Liverpool Street station at 6.30, all trains were cancelled due to an incident between Stratford and Shenfield, causing the lines to be closed. They went off and had dinner then finally got a train at 8 o’clock and were home at 9.00. The DGDs and I had eaten, watched some tv, the girls were in their pyjamas and were watching Crufts when they got home!

Nothing much planned for today, it’s lunchtime bingo in the village hall which is usually good fun.

Good morning everyone from Inverness where we’ve a clear sky and some sunshine promised for today, it looks much better than yesterdays grey miserable day!
This morning I’m off to the gym for a couple of classes and a quick coffee between the classes with pals. Then my usual riverside walk back into town before getting the bus home. I think I’ll call into M&S food to get some inspiration for dinner later. When I get home I’m going to have a walk around the garden to see what’s survived the winter and is growing again.

Good morning from a dull Black Country, where it rained overnight!

Such a lovely sunny day yesterday for our walk. Along the canal to the cafe at the Fishing Lakes. There was 22 of us, which is unusual (usually about 10-12) 4 new faces too! Lots of chat and laughter.

I had planned to get in garden today, but we are back to normal with rainy weather. Forecast shows rain up until 19th March! Hope that is wrong.

The thread title made me look twice FGT. So happy you have someone to spend time with today.
