Good morning from Bristol. We have had very stormy weather all evening and night. The wind has been dreadful all day. It’s not raining atm.

Yesterday was long ad difficult as there was a constant stream of texts regarding the WI situation, I think the final decision I’d to close our institute unless someone is willing to take up the reins, which is very, very unlikely. The whole committee is going to resign, so it sounds like was are going to close this institute. We are to prepare the membership for this event at/before the meeting on Monday. A very vexed situation.

I had a blood test at sparrow fart, the t’ai chi. After lunch, I had the podiatrist and my neighbour before rushing off to DD’s for dinner. I was invited to join them for Mothering Sunday.

Today is no less frantic. Spanish, the a church “fellowship “ tea, followed by an ad hoc WI committee meeting.

The weekend is fairly quiet and I don’t think next week will be as busy.

Thoughts to everyone in distress. Carpe diem.🦩🦩🦩🌷🦩

Good morning, it’s very windy, wet and cold here on the hillside in south Glos.
I was very disappointed to have my CT scan cancelled literally as we left the house an hour before my appointment. ‘No staff’ apparently, to be ‘rearranged’.
My urgent Cardiologist appointment (that I should have had nearly 2 years ago) is in May, by phone. I hate using the phone, being deaf I struggle to hear clearly, and previous phone consultations have been useless. The ambulatory care consultant specifically advised I was seen face-to-face on her referral.
I honestly feel like giving up, how I empathise with those who also feel like it’s a non-stop battle (hugs Marydoll)
Anyway, today I have chimney sweep, boiler being serviced, grocery delivery, dog walker for bigger dog and a nervous breakdown planned……..
Onwards and upwards 🌹

Good morning from Lancashire. The wind has died down but it's definitely colder. Yesterday was 'bin day' and there's a lot of rubbish strewn about by the wind.

GillyMo Fri 13-Mar-26 05:46:10

Good morning from a dark and rainy Kent.

Wishing a better time to all those who are experiencing negativity right now.

Pilates today.

I intend to focus on my knitting this afternoon and resist the temptation to start a vintage crochet pattern.

Good morning from South Lanarkshire.

It’s been another wet and windy night, yesterday’s weather was dreadful, daft dug and I were drenched a couple of times. I really feel for the posties battling the wind and rain.

DH’s staples came out yesterday and the wound is looking good, he has to see the trauma assessment doctor today for another check.

It’ll be a busy day, I’m meeting a former colleague for an early coffee, she’s the age of my children and lives very close to me but we seldom bump into each other so it’ll be nice to catch up with her news.
DH’s appointment in the middle of the day then later in the afternoon I’m off to the hairdresser to have a much needed cut.

Sending good wishes to all, especially those with mountains to climb.

karmalady Fri 13-Mar-26 06:32:10

Good morning from s somerset, rain all day today

I won a small refund battle today. It was just a tiny plant from amazon, I ordered a sansevieria cleopatra and the seller finally sent me a cheaper tiny plant, similar in outline but missing the cleopatra features, probably hoping I would not know the difference. I did and I complained nicely to the seller, full refund has been processed.

I was wakeful last night, the rain was battering my bedroom windows, right now it feels a long way from spring. I expect my body will take a cosy nap after lunch

A veg box is arriving this morning, I have done without for two weeks because of impossible access. I am really looking forward to crisp fresh veg, having said that I did survive and ate well enough

Knitting today, I made a rookie mistake with the stitch count and had to frog many rows, I am catching up. I am going to dress warmly today and I recorded a programme I want to watch on tv. I watched sunphlowers on prime last night, I enjoyed it, not as haha but there were moments when I could empathise as part of that group

I made date and cacao truffles yesterday, rolled in desiccated coconut. They are in the freezer and I allow myself just one a day, a yummy treat starting from today

cornergran Fri 13-Mar-26 06:38:07

Morning Mick, morning All. Horrible sums up the weather for our corner of Somerset. Rain is beating on the windows, the trees are bending in the wind and it’s cold.

Disappointed that our sofa couldn’t be repaired yesterday, round two at the end of the month. Mr C was weary and slept for most of the afternoon while I carried on with my office cupboard changes. I’m pleased with the outcome, one more box file delivery and I’m done. I was less pleased with the wind, blooms were being blown from the camellia as I watched and the blossom was hurtling from the tree leaving a pink soggy mess on the front path. I so dislike wind!

No real plans for today other than the car is booked for a wash, the sand spots aren’t shifting with rain. I feel for the lad who does it when the weather is bad. He’s unfailingly cheerful and says he doesn’t mind.

It’s our elder granddaughters birthday today. She’s heading back to university to carry on with plans made with her friends. A very sad young woman, I hope the distractions help. She’ll be back for Easter soon when we’ll get together.

roses, what a nightmare. A telephone call is beyond unreasonable, could the referrer intervene for you? Please don’t give up. I hope there’s something to brighten your day.

Best wishes to all. Stay warm and dry everyone.

Ashcombe Fri 13-Mar-26 06:38:33

Good morning from a calmer looking Torbay following some very strong winds during the first part of the night along with rain.

It’s just sound like a vexed situation with your WI, grandMattie.

How disappointing for you, RosesandLilac! The hospital must’ve known earlier in the day that they were short staffed. Are your hearing aids linked to your smart phone? If so, that should make it easier for you to hear when the consultant rings you. It is possible to have this, even with NHS aids.

Yesterday I did very little apart from joining in a Zoom meeting with fellow stroke survivors. It was too wet and windy to go out, but I shall venture forth today, not least because my cleaner is due to be here.

I hope the worries some have resolve themselves.

Bellasnana Fri 13-Mar-26 06:44:46

Good morning from Malta where it is presently sunny but clouds and rain are forecast for later with a high of 19°C.

Yesterday after my hair appointment I cleaned my car in the DIY carwash then went to buy a planter for my back yard. I don’t have a garden any more but do like to see some colour even though I have the opposite of green fingers.

I watched tennis until 10 pm but was too tired to sit through the second set even though I’d had a two hour nap in the afternoon. I set my alarm for 3am but woke at 2am so caught some of Draper’s match before my hero (Alcaraz) came on at 3. I’m afraid I was rooting for him even though he was playing a Brit, Cameron Norrie. 🫣

Went back to bed for an hour or so and am now up, showered and dressed awaiting the arrival of my two treasures who are spending the day with me whilst their mum has Parents’ Day. They do it all online now but it’s easier for DD3 if the boys are out of the way whilst she’s talking to the parents. (She’s a teacher)

I am so sorry your scan was cancelled Roses and sympathise with your other concerns. Sometimes life throws us too much to handle.💐

Wishing you all a better day .☀️

Bellasnana Fri 13-Mar-26 06:47:47

P.S. Forgot to mention I had company throughout the night although he’s not very interested in the tennis.😄

Buenos Dias again from a very sunny Spain! The last few days have been busy with early morning excursions, so haven't had time to post.
However we now have two free days, so am going to have a later breakfast and take it easy today.

Yesterday we were in the lovely city of Cartagena for the day; the weather was fine and showed the city off at her best. The highlight of the day was a visit to the comparatively recently (1988) discovery of a Roman amphitheatre in the city centre, very impressive. It was featured on a Michael Portillo programme in the last few weeks.
Glammagran, I was surprised and delighted to find out that the cruise ship in port was Spirit of Adventure!
We had a delicious lunch overlooking the port.
Photos are of sunrise and sunset from our lovely hotel. And also the Roman amphitheatre.

Wishing all a pleasant day.

What a difference an hour makes!
We now have heavy snow. Marvellous ☹️

Ladyleftfieldlover Fri 13-Mar-26 07:05:12

Morning all from a grey and blustery West Oxfordshire,

What a splendid cat, Bella!

OH and I enjoyed the film yesterday - The Bride. We had lunch first at the Italian next door with 25% off the bill when you show your cinema ticket.

I made a batch of chocolate frosting when we got home and iced a chocolate cake I’d made earlier.

We are both attending an Arts Society Study Day on Printing later. Three lectures and lunch.

Elder son and our granddaughter are coming in time for dinner. They will stay until after dinner on Saturday. Our daughter will overlap slightly as she will arrive tomorrow afternoon.

It is our WI AGM next week. We are all having to complete new registration forms in view of the latest regulations. I still look after the National data base for our WI so will have to transfer all the new information. I’ve heard of a couple of WIs in the Oxfordshire federation which have closed but they were quite small.

Have a good day everyone. So many are having difficulties currently, and I’m thinking of you all.

Redcar Fri 13-Mar-26 07:07:10

Good morning everyone from a brightening mid Essex. I was woken in the night by the rain hammering on the bedroom window. It’s drying up now and I don’t know what the forecast is for today.
I met a friend for coffee yesterday morning, good to catch up with her.
I’m collecting my new glasses this morning then will walk into town to do some shopping.

roses how frustrating that your scan was cancelled at the last moment, and that your cardiology appointment is by phone.

cornergran I hope that your granddaughter can enjoy her birthday with the support of her university friends, despite her sadness.

bellasnana enjoy your day with your grandsons.

Thinking of those with worries and anxieties and hoping the day is a little better for you.

Have as good a day as is possible everyone.

Ashcombe Fri 13-Mar-26 07:07:26

Lovely photos, BlueSapphire!

What a beautiful cat, Bellasnana!

Thought this was rather clever but I can’t for the life of me remember where it’s from!

kittylester Fri 13-Mar-26 07:15:37

Good morning all from a brightening North. We had horrendous wind and rain last night but all seems calm this morning.

I pootled and faffed yesterday morning but had a lovely catch up with a friend, plus tea and cake, in the afternoon

Today, I have my usual Friday shopping morning. I definitely need to go to the pet shop, butcher's and Waitrose. I might go to the farm shop but will judge the mud factor when I get there and could just come home.

Have the best day possible everyone.

brook2704 Fri 13-Mar-26 07:18:14

Good morning everyone from Inverness where it’s cold and we’ve had some overnight snow
Oh Roses what a shame, I hope the scan gets rearranged soon
It’s back to the gym this morning and then a walk back by the river into town and the bus home. I’ll probably treat myself to a coffee in a favourite cafe along the way
Beautiful pictures BlueSapphire thanks for sharing and enjoy the rest of your holiday
Thinking of everyone with worries and struggles, hope today is gentle and take care all whatever the day brings 💐

Greyduster Fri 13-Mar-26 07:18:47

Good morning, Michael and all GNs from South Yorkshire where the sun is shining but it’s cold and still rather windy.

I didn’t go our with the walking group yesterday. I came to the conclusion that if the wind was bending the trees at the back of my garden double it would be having a field day in the 360 acres of ancient woodland where we walk. It came on to rain late morning anyway. I went to the gym instead, and then on to DD’s for lunch. I called in on my niece and her lovely doggie on the way home.

School this afternoon - a short session with year 4 on Friday, and then a tidy round at home. My sitting room looks like an explosion at the library!

Have the best day you can, folks.

NannyJan53 Fri 13-Mar-26 07:19:21

Good morning from a bright blue skied Black Country.

Such a contrast from yesterday where it rained all day, sometimes quite heavily with very strong gusts of wind.

Had a lovely couple of hours with DS for lunch. He insisted on paying as it's Mothers Day coming up. Good to be able to catch up on family news. Apparently eldest DGD (21) has ended her 3 year relationship. Not surprised really, but I always keep my thoughts to myself on these matters.

Hairdressers today just for a trim and tidy up before our holiday, just a quick 10 minutes walk into town. Then really must start on sorting out clothes to pack.

Wishing you all the best day possible.

Grandmabatty Fri 13-Mar-26 07:23:37

Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 3° and breezy. It's been very wet overnight. baubles no snow here yet. BlueSapphire such lovely photos.
Yesterday I decided against going back to the garage. The weather was awful all day. So I had a lazy day.
Today will be quiet, I think. I have no plans and will see how I feel later. I will push myself to go to the school library to tidy for an hour. Have a good day all

Gagagran Fri 13-Mar-26 07:23:45

Good Morning all from a damp central south coast. There was a lot of rain in the night apparently, going by the puddles in the road. Think we missed the gales here and it is calm at present.

It was our WI AGM yesterday and as our President had intimated to me, she just didn't read out the missive mentioning the trans gender declaration we have been asked to make. As she and I agreed, what is the point of it? Anyone could easily lie, who would check and does it really matter?

As a side issue, our neighbouring WI closes today (with a free fish and chip lunch for their members) as no one is willing to take on the President and secretary roles. We have 15 of their members on our waiting list to join us. I do feel sad it is closing as I was President there for three years. pre covid. I do think our National Federation have totally lost touch with the ground roots members.

A lovely surprise on my return from the meeting to find a long and chatty email from my nephew in OZ. He is a senior police officer in Adelaide, having been recruited from Thames Valley Police some 20+ years ago. It was so good to catch up on his news and to hear that he and his wife hope to come to the UK for a visit this summer and will try and schedule a visit to us. There was a photo of him with his birthday cake - he is 60 today.

DH is out today with his cycling club, I have a Tesco delivery and need to do some desk work. My new computer keyboard came yesterday and is a delight so far. Very light and responsive keys.

Kind thoughts as always of all our strugglers. May the day bring some ease and comfort.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Fri 13-Mar-26 07:29:37

Good morning everyone from south Manchester where it’s chilly out today. Alexa tells me we will have showers and a high of only 8°C today.

I’m enjoying TIB and listening to Classic FM, It’s another small sadness that Himself is no longer with me. When he was well he always brought me my first mug of Yorkshire Gold (and often my second).

I have nice plans for today.

I’m getting the bus outside Sainsbury’s into Chorlton this morning where I’m headed to a long established independent family jewellers. I want to cash in a bit of gold (not much but still) and put the money towards having Himself’s wedding band resized so tgat I can wear it on my right hand and also I’d like to have a different fastener fitted to a gold bracelet left to me by my late darling mum. It’s too fiddly at present and I haven’t got Himself now to help me fasten it.

Once done with a lighter purse I shall meet my good friend who lives nearby for coffee and a good catch up. She is widowed too, same age as me and always lifts my spirits with her kindness and good suggestions.

Then at teatime I’m meeting the Boy Wonder, L’il Miss and their parents in the pub round the corner from me and then we will cross over the road for a curry. We decided on today rather than Mothering Sunday as everywhere will be so busy this weekend. I’m looking forward to my first evening meal out in a year. Baby steps. Glasses will be raised and memories will be shared. 💙

glammagran Fri 13-Mar-26 07:42:55

Good morning from a very soggy Wiltshire. The wind yesterday was really unnerving. There were upended dustbins galore all over the place and I saw a tree snapped in half near Devizes. It was hard to stay upright. In January we had a named storm and weather warnings issued when nothing at all happened here and yet yesterday’s weather didn’t seem to warrant one.

I went to get my left ear vacuumed out privately as you can’t get it done any other way now. The practitioner (near Devizes) said my right ear was fine and didn’t treat it but the other was not and I can hear better now. However, I was slightly annoyed to be charged the full price for both ears but said nothing.

Spent a lot of yesterday evening discussing world events with my DS on WhatsApp. Our views are very aligned, far more so than I have with my DH.

I’m so sorry your CT scan appointment was cancelled yesterday Roses. I’m left speechless by how you are being let down. Good to hear your DD showed some signs of improvement yesterday Susan. 💐FGTs so lovely to have you back.

Enjoy today as best you can everyone.
