Good morning everyone from the East coast and it’s bright and breezy. The rain joined the wind about tea time last night and it was heavy. Through the night we have had rain come through the living room ceiling so I’ve put a towel on the wet rug. It wasn’t coming through at 10-30 as we were going to bed.
We already have a small hole near the ceiling light where water from an earlier storm could escape. We’ve had the builder back so often to find where it’s coming through as it’s quite a new house and we keep thinking he’s sorted it but no it’s happened again! It’s been re decorated twice since we moved in thinking it’s repaired.

DGS had a great day at school yesterday but at ours something went wrong with his toys in the bathroom and he had a meltdown. It never fails to shock and shake me up when it happens. 😢

This morning I’ll go to the gym but before I do i have a parcel to send to Vinted and need to call at Waitrose for porridge oats.
We prefer theirs as it’s quite chunky. I need to put a lamb liver dinner in the slow cooker to have at seven tonight after a four way video chat with our friends.

Wishing a moment of joy for everyone today.🌼
Virtual hugs for friends feeling sad, poorly or overwhelmed 💐

FGT2 why not put those photos in a folder for now? In time some might make you smile and some you might want to delete if they don’t. 😘

grandMattie Fri 13-Mar-26 08:21:19

I wouldn’t delete the photos, fgt. I did that and now regret it.
Put them in a file or make hard copies, and “hide” them. You may be glad to see them again in a few years’ time, or perhaps your children may…

Morning from a calmer S Hants after a wild afternoon and evening yesterday, felt sorry for the dog walkers and school children.
Dreadful Roses I can understand your despondency, but am at a loss with suggestions.
Snow baubles, goodness, not sure what we’re forecast today.
Tesco delivery as usual this afternoon, MrJ will visit the local hostelry at tea time for a catch up.
Safe journey Grammaretto
Have a pleasant day if you can all, no nasty surprises.

Good morning all and thank heavens, the wind has abated.
Yesterday I walked the dog before rain set in and got home to hunker down for the afternoon, with a cuppa and my book. when I received a message from Dd.,. ‘Could you please pick up DGD from school, as the weather is so bad’ (she has to wait for a bus). 😩. ‘Of course dear’ I said…...🤬(to myself).

We won’t meet our Friday friends today as Dh doesn’t feel up to it. Even though we’d been offered a lift. Oh well!

FGT have a lovely day. You’re doing so well. 🌺.

Cornergran so sorry to hear you have a sad gd. I hope she has a lovely birthday. 🙏.

Lovely cat pics. 😻. The floral one is very clever.

Take care and I hope you all have a ‘good’ day.

grandMattie Fri 13-Mar-26 08:11:38

Roses, I’m so sorry. When NHS works properly, it magnificent, but when not, like with you, it’s so sad and very worrying. Hugs 🫂🤗

Good morning from a bright Suffolk after what must have been torrential rain and wind in the night, judging by the puddles on the drive.

The daffodils along one side of part of the drive have been battered by the wind too. It seems to happen every year about this time although the ones in the great of the garden are unaffected. Looking forward to the month ‘going out like a lamb’.

I’m meeting one of my old business partner’s for lunch today. We worked together for many years and always enjoy our get togethers which used to involve our spouses. I meet him alone now since he was widowed a few years ago.

I have a hair appointment mid afternoon just a couple of minutes walk away from the pub where we are meeting so hoping I can find a parking place in the town centre. Fridays still seem to be the traditional grocery shopping day around here.

Hope today is a good one for all.

ginny Fri 13-Mar-26 08:04:02

Good morning from a calmer N. Bucks after the high wind and rain last evening and night.
Our WI gave out the new membership forms at the last meeting and will gather them in at the AGM next month. It will be interesting to see how many come back.
I am still waiting for results from the emergency eye appointment two weeks ago . Hopefully that means all is well.
DS has gone off to play golf so after a few indoor jobs I might brave a quick walk around the block. I have a fancy to try making some cinnamon buns in the air fryer. Apparently all I need is flour, Greek yogurt, butter and cinnamon.
The rest of the day will be spent on one or other of my craft projects.
Wishing all a good day with a smile along the way.

I still miss the TIB FGT 5+ years later. It was a turning point, the morning DH couldn’t manage it

Oh this, exactly Georgesgran. 💔
In fact towards the end I took a surreptitious photo on my phone of Himself with my tea as I knew it would be one of my last. I cannot look at it now. Too sad. I may yet delete it along with many others from 2025. Why torment myself?

Grandmabatty Fri 13-Mar-26 07:55:42

Roses I meant to offer my sympathy for your cancelled scan, especially so late on. I had that with my first cataract surgery. I hope you get a face to face cardiac appointment too

madeleine45 Fri 13-Mar-26 07:55:09

Good morning Mick and all GN's from a slightly breezy , dry looking day in North Yorkshire. Friday the 13th started early for me i.e. yesterday and I am very weary and full of aches and pains.

Yesterday started in a busy but reasonable way. It had obviously rained previously but when I got up the day was bright but the wind was blowing a hooley, with a forecast of rain later. I determined to make the most of it and so before going out to my meeting ,managed to get the bedding off, washed and on the line. It was hard work getting the duvet cover on the line and got a few nasty flicks in the face as I struggled to peg it on with double pegs on everything, but managed it. I only had time to do the washing up before leaving, but looked forward to the cleaners coming, plus the gardening lady and things improving.

We had arranged to go to the department store cafe as I said, and there is an arcade at the side of the store, so mindful of the situation and trying to use my buggy more , I went on the yellow peril and was able to park it carefully down the arcade, so that if it rained it would stay dry. By the time I got there I must have looked like the wild woman of the west as the wind had increased as I went and my lovely clean hair which had looked quite good for once was sticking up in all sorts of ways.

Anyway I joined the group and settled down for a pleasant time catching up with news, playing two quizzes , which I did very well in and then thought I had better leave a bit early as I wanted to be there for the cleaners. Disaster! I checked my phone only to have a text saying the cleaner had an upset stomach and so couldnt come. I was sorry for her but of course that meant I now returned to nothing done.

As I struggled home through even wilder wind, the rain started lightly so it was a matter of unlocking the flat door, throwing my things in and grabbing the basket for the washing and going down to get that. Despite my double pegging everything the duvet cover was on the ground, but I hadnt lost anything and battled with the weather to get everything off the line and the rain got worse and worse and by the time I had got myself and washing in the flat and the yellow peril covered up I felt exhausted and soaked.

A rather sad thing also was a prunus tree in the garden had split down from the trunk, so that about 1/3rd to 1/2 was lying on the ground but still slightly attached to the main trunk. The wind was wild and as far as I could see from a safe distance, it hadnt caused any damage to any building but didnt look very safe. This is a leasehold flat and they deal with the main garden area where we have 5 silver birch trees and a copper birch, which are all older and stronger than this prunus, so they were being blown wildly about but no problems. So being a good citizen I rang the number I have for them to tell them about the situation and suggest that they send someone to deal with it, that they would probably need a saw to totally detach the broken bit before it ripped off and possibly rolled around and caused damage to people or building.

It took a long time for them to answer on the number I have and when they did answer , they promptly said that this was not the number for reporting such things and he gave me the right number and thanked me for letting them know. So I duly rang the given number where I was somewhat annoyed to be speaking to a man, whose whole attitude seemed to be to be as unhelpful as possible, try and get you to do his work and avoid any effort.

He firstly needed telling my address 3 times, despite my having a clear voice and no one else has problems understanding me! Then claimed that I was not the owner of this flat as they do not seem to have updated their paperwork in this maintenance department. He finally listened to what I had to say and my advice that they get someone there as soon as possible to avoid further problems - and hopefully might be able to save the tree or that would be another job to do to remove it. He twice asked me to hold while he went off to check something or other, then said it was a long way from his available people and could I take a photo of it and send it to him, with a tone that implied that I was not telling him the truth. By this time it was absolutely pouring with rain and the wind was even wilder and I said that I could not go out and take a picture , that it was not even near my flat and that I was simply trying to report the situation to them. He then said he didnt know if it was even their ground, which as I said rather shortly to him, that if not I wondered why they were paying staff to cut the grass and garden however badly.! I came off the phone and then had to get out of wet clothes and make a much needed coffee and redry my hair from its rainwater rinse and sit down somewhat exhausted for a while.

So it took me all afternoon to slowly get the bed made, the still wet washing put on the clothes horse and generally do all the jobs and couldnt turn the mattress or hoover so that had to wait. I did enjoy getting into my nice clean bed, but it didnt improve my night and got up today feeling awful, with little sleep, some extra aches and pains from fighting the washing and the weather and dont have any energy to start the day. Still sat around in my dressing gown , fortunately dont have an early appointment today but will have to stir my stumps and make an effort to get going. I want to get the local paper later so that at least will make me move eventually.

Today will be a day of hopefully catching up and I plan to watch the Cheltenham Gold cup this afternoon. Dont bet but enjoy choosing my horse and seeing how it does. Am often quite good at picking a winner, but like to see them , not just go on their past history and so forth. Have been involved with horses most of my life, from running a riding school part time for a farmer, riding out for a racing stable many years ago, doing dressage and teaching from beginners to more advanced for shows etc, and am so old , started watching things like the Puissance at white city from the days of Pat Smythe and Harvey Smith. How ancient that makes me!! But I have always loved the simple pleasure of hacking out and the joy of riding through wonderful countryside and seeing so much being on horseback of wild life as well as the growing crops etc. Ah cheering memories improving the day!

I have no idea of what to cook for dinner but feel I deserve something good after the day I had yesterday, so need to have a look in the freezer for something to tempt me , and then if I need any vegetables that I havent got in I can get those when I go for the paper. That is about as far as I have got with plans for today, but hoping that I shall feel a bit more rested and if the wind doesnt get going again may go to meet a friend for coffee at Neros. The forecast is for yet more cold weather and even possible snow for the weekend so think it might be best to do whatever today so that I batten down the hatches if need be tomorrow.

Oh just had a load of rooks cawing and flying round the tree and a blackbird sat on a branch sort of defying them and apparently being the winner. The rooks have all now flown off and the blackbird has just flown down to peck about under the tree so obviously intends to be the winner of this tree for nesting if ever we get any leaves on it!

Sorry you had a bad day grandMattie. It is sad when something comes to an end after all your efforts . Hope today proves to be better. RoseandLilac, how maddening and frustrating for you. Do you use the typetelephone at all? I used to take a deaf lady to hospital and she used this kind of phone. I think some of it was a direct type to each other but then she also used to type her message and I think the operator used to say the words to the other end and then type their replies to her. ? Or do you have any contact with the patient group at the hospital who might be able to help and support you . I have every sympathy with you and how maddening it is when you have got ready to cope with something and then have to go back to the beginning again. If things dont improve I think I might either get in touch with your local paper and write a letter which might be published and then get some action or actually possibly contact your mp explaining the situation and the length of your wait and see if you get any action from either of those. Baubles good news on your DH. Hope things continue to improve.

Well the day calls and I wont get anything done sat here so time to take a deep breath and begin. The wind has picked up again and it is now quite on the wild side again, so it will be hat coat and gloves this morning. Take care when you are out today folks and hope your day is a good one.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Fri 13-Mar-26 07:53:51

I do indeed know the Trafford Centre well hollysteers as it’s only a hop, skip and a jump from me. I’ve decided I quite like going and intend to call in more frequently this year. Perhaps one day we could meet there for a coffee/glass of wine? 😊

Georgesgran Fri 13-Mar-26 07:53:28

Good morning from Durham. Still windy, but nothing like yesterday’s weather, which was quite alarming!

Enjoyed a long catch up with my friend yesterday and she gave me some flowers for my upcoming birthday. Hair appointment was good too - half the price of my previous salon, which l’d left when my stylist retired.

Today (despite the car warning light) I’m meeting a man at my rental house to clear the garage - various tenants have left ‘stuff’ in it.

I still miss the TIB FGT 5+ years later. It was a turning point, the morning DH couldn’t manage it.

Best wishes to all. X

Grammaretto Fri 13-Mar-26 07:51:27

Good morning all from the Scottish Borders. Been raining all night.

I'm heading west today but snow eh Baubles?
How awful Roses to be cancelled at the last minute.

Lovely photos BS and nice temperatures Bellasnanna

I'd better finish packing. It won't be too warm out west 😄

Have a good day everyone, whatever you get up to.

EkwaNimitee Fri 13-Mar-26 07:50:38

Good Morning Mick and everyone from showery, blustery Carlisle.
It was a good decision yesterday to go for a walk straight after posting here. It was certainly windy and chilly but dry. By mid-morning, it was showery, by lunchtime, pouring down and thus it was for the rest of the day and very windy at times too. I hunkered down with admin and reading and tried to ignore it.

Today I have to go into town. I have a new regime for my steroids and the pharmacist appears to be having difficulties in getting the lower dose pills. I'm nearly running out and that just can't be.
I'll take some books to the charity shop whilst out and top up my fresh fruit and veg. Then it's back to admin and probably reading as it's definitely not a gardening day.

You are being badly served Roses....I hope matters can be sorted out satisfactorily for you.
And best wishes to all for a good day.

monk08 Fri 13-Mar-26 07:49:06

Good morning all from a sunny Black country, after yesterday's wind and rain it is very welcome.
The roofer came before the weather changed and we have accepted his quote will wait now for him to give a start date.
We didn't meet our friend in the evening we cancelled due to my back not behaving its self and also the awful weather.
Today I need to do some shopping and have a general tidy round.
Have a good day everyone whatever your plans ☀️.

hollysteers Fri 13-Mar-26 07:46:37

Once more

hollysteers Fri 13-Mar-26 07:44:36

Try again 🙄

Good morning from a breezy northwest coast. Enjoyable day trip to the Trafford Centre, Manchester even with the remnants of a cold.
I had lunch there and was led astray by some good shops, buying a cream linen waistcoat, a silver 70s style belt and a cotton kaftan.

The few hours went by quite well, although the boring part is dropping people off at various stops, which lengthens the journey considerably. My phone and a book of short stories keep me going.

Off to art group soon and DD arrives from the south tomorrow, so I will do a little shop.

FGT you will know the Trafford Centre well, I’m sure and you sound as if you are doing well too.
Pic from the mall, not Rome!

glammagran Fri 13-Mar-26 07:42:55

Good morning from a very soggy Wiltshire. The wind yesterday was really unnerving. There were upended dustbins galore all over the place and I saw a tree snapped in half near Devizes. It was hard to stay upright. In January we had a named storm and weather warnings issued when nothing at all happened here and yet yesterday’s weather didn’t seem to warrant one.

I went to get my left ear vacuumed out privately as you can’t get it done any other way now. The practitioner (near Devizes) said my right ear was fine and didn’t treat it but the other was not and I can hear better now. However, I was slightly annoyed to be charged the full price for both ears but said nothing.

Spent a lot of yesterday evening discussing world events with my DS on WhatsApp. Our views are very aligned, far more so than I have with my DH.

I’m so sorry your CT scan appointment was cancelled yesterday Roses. I’m left speechless by how you are being let down. Good to hear your DD showed some signs of improvement yesterday Susan. 💐FGTs so lovely to have you back.

Enjoy today as best you can everyone.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Fri 13-Mar-26 07:29:37

Good morning everyone from south Manchester where it’s chilly out today. Alexa tells me we will have showers and a high of only 8°C today.

I’m enjoying TIB and listening to Classic FM, It’s another small sadness that Himself is no longer with me. When he was well he always brought me my first mug of Yorkshire Gold (and often my second).

I have nice plans for today.

I’m getting the bus outside Sainsbury’s into Chorlton this morning where I’m headed to a long established independent family jewellers. I want to cash in a bit of gold (not much but still) and put the money towards having Himself’s wedding band resized so tgat I can wear it on my right hand and also I’d like to have a different fastener fitted to a gold bracelet left to me by my late darling mum. It’s too fiddly at present and I haven’t got Himself now to help me fasten it.

Once done with a lighter purse I shall meet my good friend who lives nearby for coffee and a good catch up. She is widowed too, same age as me and always lifts my spirits with her kindness and good suggestions.

Then at teatime I’m meeting the Boy Wonder, L’il Miss and their parents in the pub round the corner from me and then we will cross over the road for a curry. We decided on today rather than Mothering Sunday as everywhere will be so busy this weekend. I’m looking forward to my first evening meal out in a year. Baby steps. Glasses will be raised and memories will be shared. 💙

Gagagran Fri 13-Mar-26 07:23:45

Good Morning all from a damp central south coast. There was a lot of rain in the night apparently, going by the puddles in the road. Think we missed the gales here and it is calm at present.

It was our WI AGM yesterday and as our President had intimated to me, she just didn't read out the missive mentioning the trans gender declaration we have been asked to make. As she and I agreed, what is the point of it? Anyone could easily lie, who would check and does it really matter?

As a side issue, our neighbouring WI closes today (with a free fish and chip lunch for their members) as no one is willing to take on the President and secretary roles. We have 15 of their members on our waiting list to join us. I do feel sad it is closing as I was President there for three years. pre covid. I do think our National Federation have totally lost touch with the ground roots members.

A lovely surprise on my return from the meeting to find a long and chatty email from my nephew in OZ. He is a senior police officer in Adelaide, having been recruited from Thames Valley Police some 20+ years ago. It was so good to catch up on his news and to hear that he and his wife hope to come to the UK for a visit this summer and will try and schedule a visit to us. There was a photo of him with his birthday cake - he is 60 today.

DH is out today with his cycling club, I have a Tesco delivery and need to do some desk work. My new computer keyboard came yesterday and is a delight so far. Very light and responsive keys.

Kind thoughts as always of all our strugglers. May the day bring some ease and comfort.

Grandmabatty Fri 13-Mar-26 07:23:37

Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 3° and breezy. It's been very wet overnight. baubles no snow here yet. BlueSapphire such lovely photos.
Yesterday I decided against going back to the garage. The weather was awful all day. So I had a lazy day.
Today will be quiet, I think. I have no plans and will see how I feel later. I will push myself to go to the school library to tidy for an hour. Have a good day all

NannyJan53 Fri 13-Mar-26 07:19:21

Good morning from a bright blue skied Black Country.

Such a contrast from yesterday where it rained all day, sometimes quite heavily with very strong gusts of wind.

Had a lovely couple of hours with DS for lunch. He insisted on paying as it's Mothers Day coming up. Good to be able to catch up on family news. Apparently eldest DGD (21) has ended her 3 year relationship. Not surprised really, but I always keep my thoughts to myself on these matters.

Hairdressers today just for a trim and tidy up before our holiday, just a quick 10 minutes walk into town. Then really must start on sorting out clothes to pack.

Wishing you all the best day possible.

Greyduster Fri 13-Mar-26 07:18:47

Good morning, Michael and all GNs from South Yorkshire where the sun is shining but it’s cold and still rather windy.

I didn’t go our with the walking group yesterday. I came to the conclusion that if the wind was bending the trees at the back of my garden double it would be having a field day in the 360 acres of ancient woodland where we walk. It came on to rain late morning anyway. I went to the gym instead, and then on to DD’s for lunch. I called in on my niece and her lovely doggie on the way home.

School this afternoon - a short session with year 4 on Friday, and then a tidy round at home. My sitting room looks like an explosion at the library!

Have the best day you can, folks.
