I was just sat here whimsically thinking about 'Saturday Night'
How when I was young, Friday and Saturday nights were looked forward to all week, obviously time off work, out in town, dancing and having fun.
As we get older obviously lifestyles change for lots of reasons, so let's take a snap shot of how everyone's Saturday night looks right now 14th March.

Here, we have finished tea DH is working on some sort of project in another room. I'm sat at my Laptop reading Gransnet and listening to 'Craig Charles Funk and Soul Show' on Radio6.
It's going quite dark.Later I will watch some tv and then finish the night reading.Exciting times hmm

It usually involves some wine Saturday tends to be a curry night, but my son stayed Thursday in order to take me out for an early Mother's Day lunch Friday, I did one of his favourite curries Thursday. So instead tonight we will have M&S Chicken Kyiv with roast potatoes and vegetables, my o/h's choice, it must come from M&S though, no other supermarket version of that will do. Then we will find something to watch, not always the same thing. I started Channel 4's, 1st episode of a Women of Substance last night so may well continue with that. I suppose tonight is a fairly typical Saturday evening for us.

Waitrose do a fabulous chicken Kyiv. It’s from their No.1 range and is often included in a meal deal. It’s delicious 😋

Usually the same as most nights: hubby engrossed in wall-to-wall TV watching, me doing some sort of craft or other, or doom scrolling on the Internet on my phone! If I don't do 'something' I inevitably fall asleep in front of the TV!
However Saturday evening last week was a great change and a blast from the past - went to a daytime disco at a club in the town centre with a very sociable group from our gym 3pm til 8pm. It was an 80s night, so we all dressed up in variations of day-glo pink, green or purple accessories, some in leg warmers and tutu's. I lasted till the very end and a good time was had by all! We have more planned - I never thought I would be making a return to clubbing, albeit at an earlier time of the evening. grin

Don't think I ever really enjoyed a " night out " especially Saturday.
I liked to dance and the music ( still do), ) liked a drink ( lager and blackcurrant or Brandy and babycham in the 70s)but I have always loved to be in bed early .
Even when studying for A levels or uni exams I stopped at 9 pm and went to bed , preferring to rise early to study.
As a young Mum I was in bed and asleep straight after the children.
Now almost 70 , bedtime gets early .
I lov

Did you fall asleep, Mirren? 😂🤣

Another past brandy and babycham drinker here Mirren. Until I began one Saturday night out drinking it but ended it on pernod and blackcurrant. Oh my !! Big, BIG mistake and one never repeated. Tee total nowadays 😇. Dont much enjoy nights out now unless its a gig, rather be home. More JOMO than FOMO.

I am on my own now, and although each day seems the same, I like to make an effort foodwise on a Saturday.

One of my favourite dishes is half a sirloin steak with trimmings. I dine around 7.30 pm. Sometimes I have a glass or three of wine. There is rarely anything on TV, but I do watch Casualty.

I like to shower, etc., around 11 pm, then go to bed to watch TV or read, switching off my light around midnight. That depends on the number of snoozes I have had. Not age-related, naturally drug-related. At 82, I am allowed to rest my eyes!

I am still up around 7 am most mornings. Not a riveting life, but I enjoy my own company.

Brandy and babycham in the 70s
Oh yes, that was very popular, Mrren 😀
I haven't had one of those for many years.

Tend now to socialise mid-week and more daytime now.

It is not just us grans though. I did have cause to head down a city centre street recently. At 11pm it was fairly deserted. This same street was literally jumping with life 20 years ago when I was collecting my "clubbing" daughter. The traffic was greater than 11am then, but like a ghost now.

We are not ready for cocoa and slippers. Today is my DH's 80th birthday. We have had a fabulous few days - restaurants, eating, drinking and fun with family. You're a long time dead.

Since we have been obliged to restart work in our late 60's and have no extra for restaurants, cocoa it is!

We don’t go out much but always try to make the weekends a bit special ( long time dead and all that!). We bathe/shower, get dressed in nice clothes. I put on jewellery and scent and we go downstairs to await our son who usually comes round for dinner.

The dining room table is pre set, we have olives and other nice ‘bits’ while we are waiting for the dinner to cook. We listen to ‘Live from the Met’ on Radio Three and open a bottle of (cheap) Champagne. I have two glasses throughout the meal and the DH has similar and moves on to a nice red. We always say, ‘Happy Saturday.’

We will have something moderately fancy but with the vegetables pre prepared as I’d rather be drinking fizz than slaving over a hot stove. We have a couple of nice chocolates to finish with.

When the DS leaves we throw everything in the dishwasher and retire to watch an episode of Scandi Noir on the laptop in bed.

It’s very silly and a bit pretentious but we love it.

Last Saturday we had caught an awful nursery bug from the DGD and didn’t eat a thing all day. We couldn’t get out of bed or bath or shower. We slept all day and all night.

So roll on next Saturday.
