Good morning from Bristol.
I lost a filling from a front tooth yesterday and managed to get a dental appointment at 0830 to, hopefully, have it replaced. It is not painful, but my tongue is worn out!
My “empty” yesterday was anything but! I hung out my washing, did a bit of rubbish sorting out - our bins are in a bin area and naturally everything has to be taken out to them.
I needed to bake for this morning and Saturday. I don’t have time later so decided to go for it. I made some chocolate biscuits, a boiled fruit cake, date and walnut loaf and a dark ginger cake. That will do for next week too, if people don’t eat too much. Perhaps, if I ration what’s put out?
I visited another resident in the afternoon and had a good chat, otherwise I’d not speak to a soul all day.
My pc man sorted out my glitch in a few minutes and refused payment. He works remotely but that is no excuse. He is very kind.
So, dentist this morning, then FAB cafe; ladies’ guild in the afternoon, and quiet evening in readiness for tomorrow’s full on day.
I hope all those in distress have a peaceful day, free from pain and anxiety.
Carpe diem 🌷🌷🦩🦩🌷🦩🦩🦩

Good morning Mick and all from the north Wales nest where I’m enjoying the chamberpot and writing my long list of today’s To Do-s😵‍💫

Shrewsbury was stunning, better than Chester possibly in that olde worlde cobbled, Tudor timbered way - lovely independent shops and a Lakeland…🤗. Susan even sorted the weather for us!

Good to read you’re getting back up to speed grandMattie, it’s lonely in the smug section…🤣. I always say God gives me good health so that I can run around after my medically challenged menfolk ! Talking of which, Dad had a funny turn on Monday so I’m trotting up early today with more shopping and another blood letting session at the surgery…🤦‍♀️

I’ll catch up with all doings later and hope you’re having 🌞 at least x

Ashcombe Wed 18-Mar-26 05:44:06

Good morning from a dry but slightly chilly Torbay.

Yesterday did not really go as planned. Having attended props in the morning, I parked my car within sight of my flat on the street as usual. Later in the afternoon when I looked out, it was to see my car in a different position. It had been crashed into by another driver.

The police were already on the scene and both cars were taken to their pound. The accident was caused by the other driver losing control of his car and driving along the pavement before bashing into my car. He has told the police he’s going to give up driving now. If only he hadn’t driven yesterday…..! Where he drove is a path regularly used by parents with children as it leads to a play park.

The really sad news is that my car is likely to be written off by the insurance company because it’s nearly 10 years old. It’s the only car I’ve ever owned from new and I loved it. It has been 100% reliable and enabled me to drive through dreadful weather conditions on March 1st, 2018 when we battled with the Beast from the East and won!

We were due to drive to France at the end of the month. The car has a full tank of petrol. Hotels and ferries are all booked but it’s unlikely to happen now. DH is due to arrive later today.

One of my Toads friends gave me a lift to the theatre last night so I could fulfil my obligation to be a steward on Front of House. The play was absolutely excellent, but I didn’t feel inclined to go to the bar afterwards.

Happy hump day! 🦩💐🦩🥰🦩

What a shock for you Ashcombe. Commiserations. 😣 Thank heavens no-one was hurt.

My corner of Cornwall is dark, dry and quiet. I got off the bus in my town centre last evening to the echoing of blackbirds singing to each other, resounding above the traffic, a first for our busy hub.

Today my church home group is gathering with others to pray for issues in the middle East. We'll have lunch together first. Then I'll hop on a bus to somewhere nice.

Pantglas2 Wed 18-Mar-26 06:04:43

Oh Ash how horrible! Hope the insurance companies get cracking and sort an alternative for you until compensation arrives.

I’m sure you’re gutted about losing a dependable old jalopy, I too get very attached to a reliable workhorse (that includes Mr PG 😉) Chin up x

Bellasnana Wed 18-Mar-26 06:08:11

Good morning from Malta where it is cloudy, brightening up later and a high of 19°C.

Ashcombe so very sorry to read your news. You must be so shocked and sad. Such an inconvenience and through no fault of your own.😞

Hope the dentist can sort out your filling grandMattie.

I’ve got no news to report so will just wish you all a better day with no unpleasant surprises.🫣

grandMattie Wed 18-Mar-26 06:15:43

Oh, my poor Ash, how dreadful for you! I hope your French plans are not scuppered now. The shock, once over, leaves all the administration, expense, and inconvenience of being carless. And hire cars can’t be taken out of the country! 🌷❤️🌹🌸🪷🌺💐
Interesting that the culprit only now decided that s/he was no longer fit to drive. I’m glad I took that decision when I moved here.

RosesandLilac Wed 18-Mar-26 06:19:29

Good morning from a dry spot in south Glos, clear skies so hoping for a sunny day 🙏
What a horrible shock Ashcombe! Highly inconvenient too. Thank goodness no one was injured. Sending you 💐
Yesterday morning was spent going to the surgery for blood tests, driving into the outskirts of town to get a bus to the hospital (second visit in two days) for dermatology appointment. The lesion on my leg needs excision, 4-6 weeks wait, then bus back to the car. I bought fish and chips for my dinner, delicious, then spent much of the afternoon waiting for a gp phone call.
I was wiped out by early evening so came to bed with a book then slept quite well.
Starting to wonder if I need to look at getting someone to help with things like housework, changing the bed etc but no idea where to start. My breathing isn’t improving and I’m not convinced that it isn’t something sinister, being as ex smoker. What will be, will be 🙏
I hope today goes well for you all 🌹

Melanie61 Wed 18-Mar-26 06:19:38

Good morning from Sheffield

I’m so sorry about your car Ashcombe. Must’ve been a shock to see that. Thank goodness no people are injured.
I do hope the insurance company give you a good settlement for a suitable replacement.

I am absolutely shattered today. Had a full day at work and then WI where we had a quiz so my brain was further taxed
Then hubby came home from his day out and regaled me with the days activities.

I have a quiet day today so I shall just potter about, a little bit of shopping, but a quiet easy one for me today.

Take care everyone flowers

karmalady Wed 18-Mar-26 06:21:28

Good morning from s somerset, lots of sun today

I can see me reading a lot today, sitting out and drinking raw coconut water, which I am about to take out of the freezer. Easy delicious food today, same as yesterday and being up to date with house stuff, I can spend the day being hedonistic

Feeling a bit trapped as the workmen are working on a position which is too narrow for my car, or any delivery vehicle and the road surface is filthy and far too dangerous for my bike tyres

Ash I am so sorry about your lovely car, I understand that gutting feeling.

cornergran Wed 18-Mar-26 06:25:08

Morning Mick, morning All. Our corner of Somerset is forecast sun all day. Wonderful.

We’re off out today after a full day of domestic goddess duties yesterday. One of those a week is quite enough grin. Not quite sure where we’ll head but it’s sure to involve lunch.

Goodness ash, a nasty surprise for sure. I hope practicalities can be sorted quickly, what a relief no one was hurt.

Have the best day you can everyone.

Gingster Wed 18-Mar-26 06:37:46

Good morning all and we’re up early as Dh has his dermatology appointment. We’re not looking forward to the prognosis.
Cab arriving at 8.30 and Dh takes a while to get ready.

Sister in law phoned yesterday to tell me db is poorly with a urine infection and is in a great deal of pain. He’s 10 years older than us so I’m worried. I’ll ring him when we get back from hospital.

Ash what a shock for you . Thankfully no one hurt 🙏.
Rosesandlilac a good idea to get some help for the jobs you’re struggling with.

Take care all 🌱

GrannyGravy13 Wed 18-Mar-26 06:44:49

Good morning from a sunny S E `Essex.

What a shock and a nuisance Ashcombe I hope your insurance company is quick on sorting this out.

Gingster fingers crossed for your DH’s appointment.

Gym first thing, then an afternoon of pootling.

Gelisajams Wed 18-Mar-26 06:54:39

Today 06:48 Gelisajams

Good morning Mick and all from what appears to be a calm
Morecambe Bay. I’m awake earlier than usual as Crazy dog decided he was sleeping on our bed leaving me with about 9 inches of space. I’ve shooed him back to his bed but I can’t settle. So sorry to read about your poor car Ash. We do get attached to our cars. Hopefully the insurance will settle quickly and you will be mobile very quickly.
Yesterday was a visit to a modern art gallery. I have to say it does nothing for me at all, Give me the old masters any day!
I am meeting a lady I met at the weekend later. She’s new to the area and feeling a bit lost especially as her son has recently emigrated. I said I’d meet her for coffee at the local cafe and perhaps strike up a friendship and show her some of the delights of the area. It really is a beautiful part of the world here.
The beautiful crocus in our churchyard have now faded but have been replaced by daffodils. I will have to start gardening the little patch I am responsible for soon. I mustn’t let the side down! Take care everyone.

BlueSapphire Wed 18-Mar-26 06:56:46

Buenos Dias again from sunny Spain! Sadly this is our last day.... An outing to an olive farm is planned and then after lunch it will be packing.

Yesterday was long and tiring after lots of walking in Granada, a beautiful bustling city.
We visited the Royal Chapel where Ferdinand and Ysabella are buried, but were unable to go to the Alhambra because of new entry rules and regulations.
Photos are of Granada.

Wishing all a pleasant day.

Susan56 Wed 18-Mar-26 06:57:28

madeleine45 Wed 18-Mar-26 07:02:19

Good morning Mick and all GN's on a clear still but very cold morning in North Yorkshire. It seems to have got lighter both in the morning and evening very quickly after so long of dark and gloomy that seemed to hang on. I have already seen squirrel one this morning but no birds so far.

Today I am going to a red cross 2 hour course, so need to try and do all the things I want to do before I set off. Yesterday, I didnt improve physically at all and struggled to walk about, which was most frustrating. The morning was very painful and after I had struggled to get myself going on the yellow peril, was not at all pleased to be told that my prescription was not ready and could I go back today. I said it had taken me a painful journey to get there and I was prepared to sit and wait, to be informed that the delivery was still locked in a room while other things were being sorted out. (It was true they were very busy) but I said in that case , as they had been the ones to ask me to come that day that they could at least have rung or texted to tell me not to come, and left feeling rather annoyed and fed up at the waste of my time when it had cost me so much effort.

I called in to ask about using zoom, from the tecky genius that is Artie at Upfront, and things improved as I know nothing about it and need to understand it before I begin doing talking newspaper. He kindly said if I brought my laptop in at 12noon he would have time to put the app on or show me what to do etc, so at least the mornings journey wasnt totally in vain. So I returned home and was able to check on the washing, which was dry and so brought that in, unplugged and stashed the laptop in the bag and went back to Artie. It was very busy and so we had to go upstairs to another room, but that was quieter and so was able to set it up and make notes that I need to study when I have a moment.

So it was home and do what I could - which wasnt much - and rather frustated at signs of flowering in some pots that need planting out , but no chance to even try yesterday. I reluctantly had to go to Thirsk and get some petrol and a couple of things but did treat myself to a coffee in cafe Nero there, and then back fora quick meal and off to the games night, taking my pristine new Carcassone game to use for the first time. The afficionados there who have played for years, were very complimentary about this latest edition and , although still much to learn, I felt I was beginning to get the idea of the game. It would have been easier if the football had not been on the tv with of course a local team, so much rather deafening shouting when they scored a goal of course. As a rugby fan I dont follow the game with the wrong shaped ball! Still it improved the end of the day, but felt very tired yet still no decent nights sleep.

Today I am hoping to brush up my first aid skills. I did CPR and learnt quite a lot of first aid things over the years, from when I was teaching and doing hospital car and just generally learning as I went along, but things change and new ideas come up, so hope to refresh my skills with the latest updates.

I was rather shocked to hear on a programme yesterday discussing heart problems etc and referring to women, that they are less likely to get the immediate care they need as , firstly, they may present with slightly different symptoms than men, and that men in particular are reluctant to give CPR to women or cut or rip their clothes because it means being near their breasts. One of the main problems is that up until now there have only been male dummies to practise on, but they are now beginning to make female dummies . In a situation so dire I think it is awful that someone would be prepared to let someone die rather than them to be embarrassed . The male orientation for most things medical, means that in the past the majority of tests and medication was done totally from a male perspective and consequently there is still much catching up to do in many areas where different sizes and weights and shapes still mean that women end up having to use things made for a male figure.

So that is the aim for this morning, and as it is fine , before that I hope to wash my precious cashmere as that didnt get done yesterday. If it stays dry it should do well, in the faint hope that I wont need them in the near future and can store them away clean for much later in the year. Tonight I shall enjoy whist with friends and of course lighter evenings will make it a pleasant trip to enjoy the blossom and daffodils coming out, so fingers crossed a pleasant day. I am still creaking about but a bit better than yesterday for which I am very thankful.

Hope you enjoy a change of route Mick today and that the appointment goes well. Hope all goes well at the dentist grandMattie. Ashcombe so sorry about your car. It is such a shock and an upset of all your plans. The only positive is that thank goodness you were not in the car when it was hit. Now you have all the hassle of rearranging things, and starting again with a different car. What a horrible thing to happen to you. Hopefully as it is quite clear whose fault it is , your insurance will deal with all the paperwork swiftly.

Hoping today is a better day for everyone and you can all enjoy the flowers and blossom letting us know that at long last spring is here

Greyduster Wed 18-Mar-26 07:03:31

Good morning, Michael and all GNs. The sun is up again in South Yorkshire. Yesterday we had a day of unbroken sunshine so I had a day in the garden where one job led seamlessly to another. Heartened to see how things are shooting up now. Lots of buds on my plum tree so there should be blossom soon. I was so tired last night that I only managed to hang on until nine o’clock.

Writers group at the library today with our hard working librarian.

Ash I do hope you get a replacement car soon - thank goodness no-one was hurt.

Have the best day you can, folks.

Greyduster Wed 18-Mar-26 07:04:15

PS: I had four butterflies in my garden yesterday!

glammagran Wed 18-Mar-26 07:04:44

Hello from sunny Wiltshire.

Ocado shop shortly and then out for extra odds and sods. It may be warm enough to sit outside later.

I’m so sorry to read about your car Ash - what are the chances? Such an inconvenience for you. I hope your insurance sort it out quickly.

Best wishes for your DH today Gingster.
Roses get all the help you can while you are feeling so poorly. Is your DH retired? He needs to help you more.

Have a good day everyone.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Wed 18-Mar-26 07:08:17

Good morning everyone from south Manchester where we are set for a lovely sunny day and a high of 18°C according to Alexa. I do like how it’s set up to say ‘Good morning’ then my first name on first use each day. It cheers me every time.

I’m going to a ‘proper’yoga class upstairs in the library mid morning. I bought a yoga mat from Argos (in Sainsbury’s - so handy!) on Saturday. I last did yoga over 25 years ago in my mid forties and cannot remember how to do any of it so it will be interesting to say the least. Again, pay on arrival and only £2 such excellent value isn’t it? The teacher is the same lady from Monday’s chair yoga.

Later today after tea, I’m off to watch L’il Miss at her swimming lessons. Always enjoyable, both the watching and the catch up with youngest daughter.

Georgesgran Wed 18-Mar-26 07:13:22

Good Morning from Durham, where it’s very grey, but dry.
Long forms completed online yesterday - fingers crossed they’re alright!
Today, I have an empty (hope to hear from MD) which I’m going to embrace and enjoy.
What a shock Ash no doubt the wheels (sorry) are in motion with your insurance company. I’m sorry to say you won’t get much for your 10 year old car, as a write off. Our cars are worth far more to us as ‘freedom’ as opposed to monetary value.

Best wishes to all. X

kittylester Wed 18-Mar-26 07:24:20

Good morning all from a bright North Leicestershire.

I am going to tackle Mount Everest this morning and then, this evening, we are having neighbours drinks for the first time since last summer. Really looking forward to it.

Have the very best day possible everyone.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Wed 18-Mar-26 07:27:52

What an awful thing to happen Ashcombe such a nuisance now for you in so many ways. Especially the planned ferry to France. Could olddudders come over in his car instead?

If not, I’d throw caution to the wind (we are all different) and go out to buy another car so you can get on with life and (eventually) money owed to you will land in your bank. It’ll cost you but you’ll have a newer car and your life won’t be on hold. Obviously this can only be done by people with savings, which after selling your static caravan last year, I assume you’ll have.

I am more cavalier about money (perhaps a failing on my part) but I truly believe in life that 9 times out of 10, (not health, obviously) if you can throw money at a problem = the problem disappears.
