Good morning Mick and all GN's on a clear still but very cold morning in North Yorkshire. It seems to have got lighter both in the morning and evening very quickly after so long of dark and gloomy that seemed to hang on. I have already seen squirrel one this morning but no birds so far.
Today I am going to a red cross 2 hour course, so need to try and do all the things I want to do before I set off. Yesterday, I didnt improve physically at all and struggled to walk about, which was most frustrating. The morning was very painful and after I had struggled to get myself going on the yellow peril, was not at all pleased to be told that my prescription was not ready and could I go back today. I said it had taken me a painful journey to get there and I was prepared to sit and wait, to be informed that the delivery was still locked in a room while other things were being sorted out. (It was true they were very busy) but I said in that case , as they had been the ones to ask me to come that day that they could at least have rung or texted to tell me not to come, and left feeling rather annoyed and fed up at the waste of my time when it had cost me so much effort.
I called in to ask about using zoom, from the tecky genius that is Artie at Upfront, and things improved as I know nothing about it and need to understand it before I begin doing talking newspaper. He kindly said if I brought my laptop in at 12noon he would have time to put the app on or show me what to do etc, so at least the mornings journey wasnt totally in vain. So I returned home and was able to check on the washing, which was dry and so brought that in, unplugged and stashed the laptop in the bag and went back to Artie. It was very busy and so we had to go upstairs to another room, but that was quieter and so was able to set it up and make notes that I need to study when I have a moment.
So it was home and do what I could - which wasnt much - and rather frustated at signs of flowering in some pots that need planting out , but no chance to even try yesterday. I reluctantly had to go to Thirsk and get some petrol and a couple of things but did treat myself to a coffee in cafe Nero there, and then back fora quick meal and off to the games night, taking my pristine new Carcassone game to use for the first time. The afficionados there who have played for years, were very complimentary about this latest edition and , although still much to learn, I felt I was beginning to get the idea of the game. It would have been easier if the football had not been on the tv with of course a local team, so much rather deafening shouting when they scored a goal of course. As a rugby fan I dont follow the game with the wrong shaped ball! Still it improved the end of the day, but felt very tired yet still no decent nights sleep.
Today I am hoping to brush up my first aid skills. I did CPR and learnt quite a lot of first aid things over the years, from when I was teaching and doing hospital car and just generally learning as I went along, but things change and new ideas come up, so hope to refresh my skills with the latest updates.
I was rather shocked to hear on a programme yesterday discussing heart problems etc and referring to women, that they are less likely to get the immediate care they need as , firstly, they may present with slightly different symptoms than men, and that men in particular are reluctant to give CPR to women or cut or rip their clothes because it means being near their breasts. One of the main problems is that up until now there have only been male dummies to practise on, but they are now beginning to make female dummies . In a situation so dire I think it is awful that someone would be prepared to let someone die rather than them to be embarrassed . The male orientation for most things medical, means that in the past the majority of tests and medication was done totally from a male perspective and consequently there is still much catching up to do in many areas where different sizes and weights and shapes still mean that women end up having to use things made for a male figure.
So that is the aim for this morning, and as it is fine , before that I hope to wash my precious cashmere as that didnt get done yesterday. If it stays dry it should do well, in the faint hope that I wont need them in the near future and can store them away clean for much later in the year. Tonight I shall enjoy whist with friends and of course lighter evenings will make it a pleasant trip to enjoy the blossom and daffodils coming out, so fingers crossed a pleasant day. I am still creaking about but a bit better than yesterday for which I am very thankful.
Hope you enjoy a change of route Mick today and that the appointment goes well. Hope all goes well at the dentist grandMattie. Ashcombe so sorry about your car. It is such a shock and an upset of all your plans. The only positive is that thank goodness you were not in the car when it was hit. Now you have all the hassle of rearranging things, and starting again with a different car. What a horrible thing to happen to you. Hopefully as it is quite clear whose fault it is , your insurance will deal with all the paperwork swiftly.
Hoping today is a better day for everyone and you can all enjoy the flowers and blossom letting us know that at long last spring is here
