Fitted sheets

After having to manipulate my bottom sheet again to put it straight I am left wondering if any fitted sheets have strong enough elastic around the edge to stop them wandering around when used?

I gave up on fitted sheets a long time ago. Hated putting then on the bed and ironing them was worse. I use flat sheets with hospital corners and they stay in place perfectly,

TBH it’s never occurred to me to try ironing fitted sheets! Any creases soon drop out.
Actually I don’t iron any bedding, except pillowcases if guests are coming to stay.

Habitat at Argos also have a good range of bedding.

I had to Google "ironing! grin I have a king size bed with a deep mattress and deep topper. I buy super-king size fitted sheets and just tuck in the extra on the width. The length is exactly the same size and king-size and seems to fit OK. If it moves around at all, I just adjust it when I make the bed. Still takes less time that ironing it in the fist place (whatever that is!)

Lol, I think we can all relate to that, Georgesgran!! 😂

Blame the mattress. They are not a standard size. My new mattress is much thicker than the previous one. When I sit on my bed, my feet are off the floor, which is unusual for me.

I wouldn’t dream of ironing sheets fgs

Do any of you find you get very sore hands trying to fit the sheets on the bed? I bought some mattress lifters , sort of wedges that raise the mattress up enough to pull the sheet under. They are quite good but still gets hands that hurt. Any suggestions for a solution?

I saw an advert recently that claimed that even the more expensive brands use low quality elastic and they used a stronger, wider elastic. Can't remember the name of the brand though. Probably just marketing hype because as* Elless* mentioned, Asda also do sheets with wider elastic.

I can't imagine using those " suspenders" as I couldn't face hoiking the mattress up and holding it while I attach them. Or how do you do it, those that have recommended them?

ViceVersa Sun 29-Mar-26 11:12:24

I just lift each corner of the mattress slightly to attach the clips and that's it.

Ironing sheets!! Never.
I fold bedding and put it on the bottom of the pile of bedding until it’s their turn to be used and it comes out almost as if it had been ironed.
Still can’t work out how to neatly fold fitted sheets though.

Well that's certainly slapped me down for ironing bed linen, different standards and priorities for everyone.

dalrymple23 Sun 29-Mar-26 15:34:18

Am with FH there - I know the principle of folding fitted sheets but it seems to need six hands (or three people) to do it!

The other disadvantage is that you can't sew "sides to middle" when the centre bit is getting thin!

And having to try and bend the mattress to get the fourth corner in, is a nail-breaking exercise.

I use fitted sheets, by the way...............!

I've never sewn sides to middle! My mother used to, with a lovely flat felled seam but I could still feel it in the middle of my sheet.

I have 400tc cotton sheets Habitat, from Sainsbury’s, they’re at least 10 years old and never a problem. I put diagonal corners into place and they stay there.

I have been using suspenders for year, but can't lift the mattress any longer. I now buy Rise & Fall Sheets, a bit more expensive but worth every penny they simply spring in to place and stay there. They are fabulous quality too. I have stopped ironing the fitted sheet because they look like they have been ironed once on, but I iron everything else.https://www.google.com/aclk?sa=L&ai=DChsSEwi7zPfr4MeTAxXFk1AGHSTbEMkYACICCAEQABoCZGc&co=1&gclid=CjwKCAjwvqjOBhAGEiwAngeQnQ6eSpn31oPOL2ixNuAltuTX9ukJwKCDk9-938vRv0_vSDV9gV6MfBoCEFcQAvD_BwE&cce=1&sig=AOD64_3tqBkK3rbY4vrafEmIVe82JKok5g&q&adurl&ved=2ahUKEwjLyPHr4MeTAxV1TEEAHcZ-DUoQ0Qx6BAgUEAE

I find that so many fitted sheets simply don't fit well, some are so loose that they crease up everywhere and others are so tight that I break nails trying to pull them down over the corners.

Barbadosbelle Mon 30-Mar-26 15:07:06

.

Most fitted base sheets are only elasticated on the corners and they can come away.
However. M&S, JLP and Amazon do sell some that are elasticated all way around, which are perfect.
You just have to seek them out!

I wondered too. Then I bought Tempur. Fab!

PattyFingers Mon 30-Mar-26 15:32:51

I bought my latest sheets (two years ago) from Sheet Story. They are deep and have great elastics. They also have a tag to show the top/bottom of the sheet so you don't have to guess! The first ones I bought through amazon but when I bought the quilt covers I went direct to the company. We are really happy with them. sheetstory.com/

Glad not only me BlueBelle who doesn't iron! Ironing sheets, what a waste of time, they are crumpled within one nights sleep. Life is far too short to iron and sheets especially!
