A huge march against the Far Right

Thank you for your post. I am currently living in Florida and wake each morning with a dreadful feeling about what terribly hateful thing will happen today. I am fearful for my country and in turn for the world. I attended one of many marches on Saturday morning. It was heartening to see so many people who are as worried as I. I wish our system allowed a recall election. Unfortunately, the power of impeachment lies with an equally corrupt and hateful Congress. I’m hoping nothing occurs that will prevent us from voting in a new Congress in November. Please, keep fighting against the right. The hatred towards minorities here is frightening.

The march here was not an anti-Trump protest although it was anti-right extremism.

There is a different between moderate right wing and extremism.

The far right is terrifying, the far left is terrifying, religious fanaticism is terrifying - extremism of any kind needs to be called out because of its horrendous consequences, so even if the march were only 50,000 as Oreo reports the police saying, or 500,000 as Bluebelle believes, the achievement is such that some people, somewhere, are making visible the feeling that for them and countless others what the far right ascribe to is not OK and that's a good thing. That's what it achieves.

Couldn’t help but wonder where were the Union Flags and St George’s Cross flags?? Was this really the future of the UK? Iranian and Palestinian flags but not our own plus of course a video from Elon Musk. What’s not to like?

Unfortunately the far right have tainted our national flags. If I see one now I roll my eyes and assume it has been put up by a far right gammon. It’s ironic that they’re actions have led to that.

Relying on my own experience, I have found that both Left and Right can be equally aggressive.

Also, they can be quite the opposite.

Generalising about a particular demographic, be it Left or Right, which is made up of individuals with distinct and different personalities is not helpful.

I'm not sure why you think it's okay to dictate to other members Oreo. All companies, including Gransnet, will be using AI in some shape or form. It can give an appropriate view of which poster is actually being aggressive.

If I was running GN I would put all complaints through it to decide just who was, shall we say, pushing the boundaries.

My 26 year old was there with his pals. Proud parent moment, my youngsters do not want the run up to WW2 repeated anywhere in the world but definitely not starting here. History tells us where the divide and conquer mentality leads!

Some seriously disturbing comments on here. Fantastic that decent people are standing up to the growth of Fascism! A real antidote to the vile mix of the far right and fundamentalist ‘Christianity’ from those who clearly never set foot in a church.

I’ve never seen thousands marching in the UK Supporting Hamas or terrorists - I have seen thuggish people abusing the Union and English flags specifically - wearing them as capes, painting them on roads for people to drive over, spray painting them on war memorials and places of worship and dangling them half mast from lampposts with the sole purpose of dividing communities. An utter embarrassment to sane intelligent people.
I hear too often from these people that ‘boat people’ are to blame for everything wrong in this country. Listening to these people who can spend every hour of their lives shouting at hotels one might imagine we never had prisons bursting at the seams with home grown criminals before ‘the boats’ arrived. One might imagine paedophiles, burglars, drug dealers, muggers, rapists and thieves never existed before. One might think only brown and back people commit crimes.

Utterly scary that anybody in a country with access to free education until the age of 18 could listen to these mindless hordes of right wing agitators. They are what’s wrong in this country!

I’d love to ask these lamp post climbers what they do to improved the area in which they live. The same energy and money could be used to put hanging baskets up the poles, tidy some gardens for the elderly, serve in a food bank or organise some activities for the youths.

Let’s not forget what led to the increase in illegal migration across the channel - Mr Farage and Boris Johnson. Let’s not forget who wanted us to join the illegal war started by Trump - Mr Farage. Let’s try and remember the difference between support for Hamas and support for Palestine. Remember that criticism of the Israeli government led by a war criminal is legitimate. Let’s try and know the difference between ‘Trump style Patriotism’ and genuine love of your country by supporting its values, law and community standards.

If Farage has not improved life for the citizens of his constituency, and rarely visits them, how could anybody imagine he could improve life for the citizens of this country?

Farage has stated over and over again that he wants to work with Trump and visits the USA more than he attends Parliament. Big clue there just how much he cares about the UK.

Any clues what happened to the £350 million PER WEEK we were to get when we left the European Union? He promised it would go into the NHS! Another of his idiotic lies idiots believed.

That’s not how it was though, you must have seen the pictures of some of the marches in the big cities. Some of the other events were in small backwater towns, there aren’t 3,300 cities in the USA, there are 310 with populations over 100,000.
