A huge march against the Far Right

Yesterday we had a massive march believed to be 500.000 people in London against the Far Right and not a word on here, vey little on the news and way way down towards the bottom on the BBC news page
I ve put this in chat as I m not looking for hard politics or arguments but I m proud of the people marching against the rise of the far right, against the division and hatred that is currently being spewed out by Farage and friends
Well done London and all the people who travelled to give out a message of togetherness, of kindness, of inclusion.

Yes, Suzie62, you may say anything that does not go against GN rules. You do not need permission from anyone on this Thread. There are no GN Prefects.

MaizieD Mon 30-Mar-26 17:51:30

^ Some of the other events were in small backwater towns, there aren’t 3,300 cities in the USA, there are 310 with populations over 100,000.^

Oh dear. Is David pulling figures out of the air now?

I think that, if I were living in a different country from my country of birth but some halfwitted corrupt National leader were bombing the hell out of my birth country for no valid reason I would, regardless of its regime, be happy to wave its national flag in support of it.

The hatred and scorn disclosed on this thread for other nationals, for people who want to make a point about unity and for people who have differing opinions, is quite disturbing.

I bet this march was organised by a bunch of London based Wokes. and their friends on the media..

They are the real threat to this country not Nigel Farage.

Maremia Mon 30-Mar-26 17:58:05

'London based wokes'...what on earth does that mean? grin

Casdon Mon 30-Mar-26 18:09:46

Lots of others have given their opinions about the use of flags, so why should Susieq62 have her comments picked up on? Isn’t everybody’s response an emotional one?

Susieq62 Mon 30-Mar-26 18:10:58

Thanks Casdon!
Ronib, I believe all flags support nationalism hence my dislike of them.

It’s impressive that ‘London based Wokes’ managed to motivate so many people to turn up for a march against the far right, isn’t it? 500,000, wow, who would have thought so many cared.

Susieq62 Mon 30-Mar-26 18:13:15

Plus my friend, who marched, lives in Bradford, a very multicultural place and definitely not Woke, whatever that means these days.

ronib Mon 30-Mar-26 18:13:21

Now we’re talking Susieq62 exactly what is wrong with nationalism?

Peaseblossom Mon 30-Mar-26 18:18:01

WithNobsOnIt I am in total agreement with you

Peaseblossom Mon 30-Mar-26 18:20:02

People that dislike the displaying of our patriotic flags are the ones that are a disgrace and an embarrassment.

What threat do you think people marching for peace are, exactly?

Susieq62 Mon 30-Mar-26 18:22:51

Ronib, I prefer patriotism to Nationalism . I don’t subscribe to one nation being above that of another . I would prefer a world without flags tbh. as they can suggest superiority. I don’t feel superior to any other nation.

Galaxy Mon 30-Mar-26 18:26:03

Depends what you mean. France, for example, is superior on most metrics to Afghanistan.

StoneofDestiny Mon 30-Mar-26 18:26:29

Nothing wrong with displaying your national flag. Something wrong with disrespecting and debasing it. Something totally horrendous about seeing fascists waving it. Reminds me of the much publicised picture of the idiot wearing a poppy on Remembrance Sunday with a swastika tattooed on his neck in full view to all.

Oreo

Then use it for your own posts DAR but don’t be repeating other posters comments along with an AI interpretation of their ‘tone’.

I'm not sure why you think it's okay to dictate to other members Oreo. All companies, including Gransnet, will be using AI in some shape or form. It can give an appropriate view of which poster is actually being aggressive.

If I was running GN I would put all complaints through it to decide just who was, shall we say, pushing the boundaries.

😄I can well believe you would.

All not most 😉

Well, I for one can just imagine 😁

Oreo Mon 30-Mar-26 18:33:06

I bet Corbyn was marching…

ronib Mon 30-Mar-26 18:34:00

I think it’s very healthy to feel that you belong to a country in some way. A citizen of the world ends up being a citizen of nowhere. Susieq62 The flag is minor. It’s a human need to belong.

What a dumb thing to do.

The far right is terrifying, the far left is terrifying, religious fanaticism is terrifying - extremism of any kind needs to be called out because of its horrendous consequences, so even if the march were only 50,000 as Oreo reports the police saying, or 500,000 as Bluebelle believes, the achievement is such that some people, somewhere, are making visible the feeling that for them and countless others what the far right ascribe to is not OK and that's a good thing. That's what it achieves.

What a lovely ethos.

It’s strange to think that there are people who generally believe we have a far, far left (whatever that may even move) govt in power.

I think our PM is a left leaning centralist.

I believe Farage & co are to the right of right.

I too subscribe to the belief that’s no one nation is superior to another, I’d like to subscribe to the belief that no humans are superior to others but …… Mmm evidence may suggest otherwise

It is indeed a human need for most humans to feel that they “belong” How sad then when you happen to be a displaced person or unable to safely stay in your country of birth, and then discover no other country wants you either!

Oreo Mon 30-Mar-26 19:06:39

A few days later these marches are forgotten about.Especially one which espouses myriad causes.
