Good morning Mick and all GN's from a still ,grey, and cold morning in North Yorkshire. It is the bin day today and I was getting ready for bed last night, when I suddenly realized I hadnt put my rubbish out and so had to stick my dressing gown on and get them sorted and put out and so then felt wide awake when I got into bed!
Yesterday I was struggling for much of the day, despite taking painkillers. I ended up going to Aldi, and got my little buggy out and bags etc and showed the lady on the till that my bags were empty and then went round trying to become more familiar with their layout, and finding a way of being able to open the doors to the chilled area and reach for items . It was very difficult to reach things whilst keeping the door open too , and I need to work out a better way. Couldnt get up and down from the buggy, too painful, but that is the point of having it. Anyway got quite a reasonable amount of things I needed and then home to sort it out and put it away.
In the afternoon it was very windy but a little warmer with some sunshine and I was determined to do something in the garden. So got the fold up chair out - which has a metal frame, and by putting that close to the border and moving it along, I managed to take my secateurs and deadhead all my miniature daffodils , which didnt seem to last too long. It is important to take the flower heads off and let the leaves take in the sun and feed the bulbs for next year. So I was quite pleased with my efforts, and at least sat out for the first time this year to enjoy a bit of sunshine. Then I made a bit more effort and went round several of the beds in the communal garden bit deadheading the daffodils there too, which the so called gardeners never do, again to give us a better show next year. Doesnt sound much and nowhere near the way I was able to garden in the past but pleasing to have done something. If the weather improves this afternoon I will attempt to do a bit more outside and hopefully plant the violas and pansies which have been languishing in their pots waiting for my attention.
This morning, once I have done the basic chores I am getting down to the ironing, as I can sit and do that and enjoy some music, while warming up on a chilly morning. Was tempted by the forecast of a better afternoon to go to Harlow Carr , but still struggling to move easily and the cost of fuel etc., has put that idea off for today. It will be busy with easter things for families this week and so I shant venture out to anywhere it is going to be busy. Although I am on the edge of a town, our little cul de sac is very peaceful generally, and one thing about waking early is that if I need to go to a supermarket I often go very early and get home before it gets busy, as I am no fan of shopping or looking in shop windows etc.
I heard from my son and he is somewhat frustrated with his hand and wrist still wrapped up and that difficulty to do things . We all just accept our ability to do many things without thinking about it until something like this happens. Anyway with the holidays, the cost of fuel etc we are not planning to meet up just at the moment but hopefully in a week or two will organise something.
There are one or two gardens open in the yellow book but again the cost of fuel etc is making me think twice about going. I think it will definitely affect how many people go and visit them, not only the cost of the fuel but the fact that we are not sure how fuel availability is going to go. The yellow book and visiting gardens were my major extravagance , as I dont do a lot of driving far in the winter or autumn, and loved going to see the gardens and arranging to meet friends too. But this year so far, nothing organised. Many of the gardens are in places that you would need to drive to, or are some distance from bus stops etc and so I will have to investigate and see which places I might manage to get to by bus. Ah well will just have to see how things go. Well the sun is finally making an appearance and the lovely Lark Ascending by Vaughan Williams is playing on radio 3 so things begin to cheer up a little.
Hope you have a good trip this morning Mick. Your live music occasion sounds fun GrandMattie, we could do with something like that here. Wish there was a dancing group round here to go to as it would galvanise me into moving about more , enjoying it rather than thinking all the time of the least painful way to move. Bellasnana , it is always hard saying goodbye but at least these days you will hear quickly that they have arrived safely. I remember when we arrived in Damascus and the phones were not working for quite a long time, and I could only write a letter about our journey and then I managed to get through on the following afternoon to my mother , who had been very worried that she hadnt heard from us until then. We are lucky to have a variety of ways to get in touch these days .Susan56, I am glad for you that the house has sold. There is always some sadness letting go, but you will benefit from no longer having it to worry about and have to check up on and do jobs there. Hope that gives you a little more time for yourself. Hoping there is no delay for Roses today and things go as well as they are able to .
Wishing everyone a day of satisfaction, whether that is a job finally sorted at last or a meeting with friends . Hope the weather improves throughout the day and we may all be cheered by the signs of spring.
